Zoo story inspiration required

I know lots of us like to have a story/background in mind before starting a new zoo - well I'm stuck! Please would you share with me your story ideas.
I'd love to do a desert biome zoo but just don't have the inspiration without some kind of "why". But any kind of story idea would be gratefully received - I keep a list for future plans!
Thank you :)

Here are a few: Silk Road, Lost Explorers, Modern African Zoo (look up modern African architecture - there's a lot of cool stuff), Desert Oasis, Moroccan Souk, Cowboy Town and Ranch....

How wild would you like? Without knowing where you fall on the realistic versus fantastical rating it is hard to know what to suggest but you could go crazy and pretend the desert is an alien landscape that is being used to breed and look after survivors of earth's biodiversity all the way to something simple e.g. the collection was originally an oasis where Bedoin nomads rested and bred camels but slowly expanded to become a tourist destination.

One that I've used for a park I'm still, slowly working on, is a NA Park developing as a Zoo.

The basic backstory is someone started by buying a farm, then slowly shifting from the normal animals to more exotic ones that could be, relatively, easily acquired and shifting it into an open zoo. Things like replacing cattle with Bison, adding Caribou/Reindeer, then adding rescued animals to it such as bears and cats that are more local species (such as a Grizzly or Cougar).

Mine was using quite a few modded animals to fill the roster rather than expand beyond NA animals beyond a few special options (I used some peafowl for an early part since there are a few farms that breed them and they're in a lot of other places as well, and I'd used some of the koi sculpts for a pond area.), so it's heavily delayed at the moment.

As I get better at the game, I'm often disappointed by my old builds, but I get so attached to the animals I breed. So instead of starting new zoos, I've been "renovating" the first big zoo project I ever tried to do. It's on its third incarnation now, and thinking of it as a renovation really helps me immerse myself and stay motivated-- I'll even write up short little role playing updates, where I explain to myself where the old animals are staying while the zoo is remodeling, how the newly-added animals are doing, and what my plans for the future are. I wasn't very good at building when I first started, and my habitats didn't look the greatest, so it's easy to pretend, now that I've improved, that the zoo is getting grants and donations to splurge on more extravagant construction versus the original, lower-budget look.

When I feel short on creativity, I try to look for more unconventional inspiration. There's a new ferry terminal in my state, in a building style I've been trying to incorporate into my zoo-- even though it's a ferry terminal, I used it as inspiration for the entrance of my zoo. And sometimes when I go to restaurants or shops, I take pictures of the buildings I like. There's a local REI store that I looks amazing as a primate house when you try to recreate it in-game lmao.

Fab! Thanks for the ideas! I felt inspired by a desert oasis, decided to go with an old oasis, once a bustling community, now empty and deserted, apart from the camels that are part domesticated. I created the landscape, put down a bunch of random paths (I have never done this before!) and some old empty shells. Then I moved in some camels. I'm keeping it low budget for now, until it really takes off, but I'm enjoying it, and I feel like it's a new way to play for me, just fitting things in around the paths etc - I'm not very good at doing that usually, I'm a bit of a control freak!
