I would try to copy some of your original saves to a USB device (or the cloud), or potentially removing some games or software from the PlayStation 5 harddrive, and see if the merging works after that.

Ok, so I managed to get that work. There were some other PS4 saves in the console that I wasn't using so far (but I need to update the basic PS4 game to PS5 in order to do the same) and I can now use the saves in PS5. I just would like that the trophies got unlocked and not having to re earn them again. The game runs so smooth.
