Moon - When Will it be landable?

okay, so i already posted here a bit over a year ago.
i just saw the movie 'First man' and i started to ask myself again,

'why is the moon still not landable?'

so, i get that i'm a massive fan of the moon and i would love to see the historical sites. i understand that's not FDev's primairy goal right now and i understand it's hand-made.

with that out the way,

i have found various posts of other players (and have read a news artickle, however, cannot find back) talking about the moon becoming landable in the future.
one of the earlier ones dating back to early 2016. over 2,5 years ago.
so, we know that they've been working on this (if they haven't abandoned it yet) for over 2,5 years.

when will it be done? i'd love to land on there but comeon, this is taking rather long. and yes, i know, handcrafted, but still.

Not until they release SpaceLegs, duh - so we can all take those first steps.

And then invade the secret base hidden on the dark side.

Not a chance. Unlike procedurally generated planets, the Moon will require manual terrain modelling. Too much work for FD, guaranteed.

I think as has been posted above the challenge is if they were going to allow moon landings, they would want it to be as accurate topologically - as I can guarantee you there will be 3 maybe 4 posts once moon becomes landable stating the game is “literally unplayable” due to the ‘mare whosname’ not being at the right inclination or that the Apollo 11 isn’t facing the right way.

So you can either labour for 20 weeks and produce an amazing new space whale, or labour 20 weeks and produce an accurate moon that people will go ‘meh where are the Space Whales?’

My money is on the Space Whales developememt....

i've read they've been working on it though. have they just given up than?

FD had us all believe they've been working on many things. How many of those things have come to light?

The Panther Clipper has become a running joke. They couldn't meet their schedule for Carriers or Ice Worlds, which should have made Q4 release. What they did show looked more like a flat surfaces Ice Effect from a Dreamcast than the concept art they showed with mountains, snow and overhangs etc

Juice ups about exploring your ship and stations on foot. Lurking around the upper atmospheres of Gas Giants, more involved powerplay etc...

I'll be surprised if we legit see elaborate Ice Worlds and Mars like atmospheres etc within the next year or two.

I'm not entirely confident FD could pull of their concepts, sadly. Their updates are very infrequent and akin to an Indy Developer at times, in my opinion.

So a properly modelled real 1:1 Moon surface with accurate mountainscapes etc... Sadly just nope!

They are saving the moon for the big reveal of space legs which is expected 1st quarter 2019.

The trailer will be a Panther Clipper landing a few hundred yards off behind an american flag on a grey barren landscape and then SRV descends from the clipper and drives up beside the flag and out steps a commander and walks over to me the flag, camera zooms out to reveal the moon. The legendary radio message from Neil Armstrong is heard and title rolls "Elite Dangerous Colonies"

Colonies? I dunno. But I bet they are saving the moon for space legs.

The moon landings were fake anyway and the moon is the control node for the Lizard people impersonating HRH Queen Elisabeth.

As we all know, Elite has been around for some time now. It started out as a little acorn (geddit?) back in 1984, and has grown into a fine young tree with spreading branches. It's possible to believe that one day we could see and do anything imaginable/possible in the 'Elite Universe'. So... one day... the moon!

Well, ED takes place in the next 1200 years so many things may happen to the moon surface. It doesn't need to be so accurate then!

  • Asteroid impacts could have change the actual surface map
  • Some invasive mining corporation could have created new craters and canyons
  • Wars and battles between local factions could have destroyed some historical sites
  • Then the moon in 3304 could be populated by colonies and cities so FD may just need to put scattered domes, cities and outposts

The one with the National Socialist German Workers' Party* in?

Damn those National Socialist German Workers' Party's

Seriously FD the NZ's is a censored word? [haha]:x

The Moon will never be landable as it's probably, even 1200 years in the future, still an elaborate hoax.
