soo well now tell me which new game is comming out next time in which you never ever need an internet connection.

well, i would have responded with "elite dangerous" but...

LOL .. You really dont have a clue about stock holders do you ...

More than likely is that Offline will come at some point, but currently they dont have time to do that considering the game is launching in a month (but thats a different discussion.)

do you care to elaborate?

Fairly certain Dragon Age Inqusistion which is what im getting next week will be offline save for the MP. And Origin will be going offline ASAP.

I just can't wait to see the new ships. I have faith the FDEV will deliver a good single player mode even if you have to go online to do so.

If this is the way you feel try to get your refund and move on. You guys sound like jilted lovers. It's a game, FD is not your fiance/spouse.

I don't want a refund, [redacted]

Brookes was quite clear (probably unintentionally) when talking about 3d party servers; this isn't about technical issues, this is about EA-style always-online DRM [redacted], in a game that was promised to be DRM-free (the forum won't let me link to the Elite: Dangerous kickstarter FAQ for some reason, so I'll quote it at the end of the post):

The problem here is that you'd have access to the server which isn't something we'd want to allow as it contains the secrets of the galaxy.

The DRM-free quote the forum won't let me link to:

Will the game be DRM-free?
Yes, the game code will not include DRM (Digital Rights Management), but there will be server authentication when you connect for multiplayer and/or updates and to synchronise with the server.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't intend what I said as harassment. I'll try to avoid any such misunderstanding from now on.

The written word, without any other visual or audible input is easy to read into wrong. Pretty much every post I have seen by Michael is a bit curt. I'd take what he says for what it is and not read anything more into it. I reckon if the vibe you are getting was right he would have just come right out with it.

You are of course completely correct, but if you follow said link it specifically says that once you have downloaded the software you lose all rights to a refund.

Are you honestly telling me that Michael didn't know the contents of this link when he posted that message?

At best he didn't know the contents of that link/was tired etc, at worse...

Maybe they will ... at some point .. but then I forget we live in an age where people have given up rational thought ...

I find your comment irrational given the proportion of rational thought exhibited in this thread compared to the irrational. While absence of proof is not proof of nothing, it isn't proof of something.

I can play every single player game on Steam Offline. I've played Farcry 3 offline since release on the Ubi Play (or whatever it's called).

Sure, initial registration, updating and patching etc. need to be managed creatively (I download away from home and then copy files onto my gaming pc at home).

Most games can be played offline if you need to - when you have terrible internet, you learn to adapt. But it would be a shame if ED made it impossible to play offline. If it's true I will need my money back as I will basically be unable to play (I can dip into it now and then depending on the health of my data limit).

As mentioned in the newsletter thread the game has changed a lot since the initial kickstarter. One of the biggest changes is the importance of the the offline component to manage the galaxy and interactions. This isn't something we can translate into an offline experience as we'd effectively have to make a new game world - we couldn't share the same world and that throws out the intent for a shared universe.

Michael

Perhaps the KS backers should have been consulted on such a decision.

Easy there ... Not sure my brain can handle such words this time in the morning ....

I assume you were trying to be clever of course...

Its ironic that the majority of the people coming and having a pop in this thread are people who will quite happily play online, and have a valid working internet connection all the time. Of course this is just another example of people jumping on something that everyone is jumping on as well (see E3 last year, and Microsoft's online policy).

Whilst there are people out there who live in the sticks who have not so ideal internet connections, whats stopping them from playing Solo mode exactly> As long as the get authenticated, and get the server updates when needs that all that matters.

Personally if I were out in the sticks without Internet I would have assumed (looking at the original KS , or the website) that this game is geared well towards having an online connection.

Peeps out there can well ask for a refund, although I dont think any KS's will or should as to be honest, although they paid for a game they also paid for the game to be made (past-tense).

People love to moan ... and this is giving them plenty of ammo sadly ...

I only skim read and then properly read quoted posts on the latest page.

I too have read every single post in this thread.

I think this is one of the main reasons this thread has the potential to turn into a singularity and swallow us whole. A lot of the thread crappers have been skim reading and taking one line of text out of context and then applying their patronising sweeping generalisations as solutions; or, they have just been trolling for their own amusement.

The point is, less posting, more reading and more thinking and then post when you have something rational to say.

P.S. I of course do not include you in this summation, I was just using part of your message as ladder to my soap box; I enjoy reading your posts.
