The Thargoid War: System States Clarifications

Ending?
Colonia and Void are cool places :ROFLMAO:

Also, even bubble has more than 20k systems.

Hmmm. Its counter intuitive. But it make sense that system and starports status should change over tyme. BUT make a mark in UI, how many days left before system status update.

A way a lot of this disappointment could've been avoided would've been to do a deep dive preview of the thargoid war mechanic a few weeks before the patch to gather some feedback and answer questions/concerns instead of being so secretive about the feature and developing it in isolation like that.

It wouldn't have had to give away anything important - even the maelstroms, orthus (probably?) and station CZs could've been kept secret as an extra cool surprise until release.

Or even just an explanation of the GUI and the new mechanics of thargoid war in last Thursday's stream..

Seems like that would have been perfect content to stream two days after the update dropped.

wow what a waist of my time. i like the game to be differcult and dangerous, but i like challenges to be achievable.
i get limited time per week to play due to working etc, the time i have had in game has been spent supporting humanity in the war.

and for what, for it to be deleted.
i have no issue it being hard and taking several weeks to win a system, but we shouldnt have our progress deleted each week. it should continue onto the next.
if we dont complete by the end of the 6 or 7 week period, fine we lost.

this is crazy, who dreamt this stupid idea up
this will turn many players off assisting in the war

Greetings Commanders,

We wanted to take this opportunity to clarify some details about system states within the Thargoid War:

  • The UI provides time in weeks: this is how long the system will remain in a given state. If the state isn't pushed back it will progress (Alert to Invasion or Invasion to Controlled).
  • If the progress bar is filled at the end of a week, the state will be pushed back and Thargoids will be defeated in that system. If not, the bar is reset for the next week. Players have as long as the time stated in the above to defeat the Thargoids.

With these points in mind, a number of systems are currently liable to remain under attack as progress resets with the weekly tick on Thursday. However there is still time to win them back!

O7
This is fundamentally unrealistic. In a War (Just turn on Sky news for verification) the Line changes don't reset weekly, the progress in defence continues and stacks until one side or the other wins. Resetting the bar in this way is a really bad game mechanic and is going to drive players out of caring about this aspect. (Maybe that's your goal).
HIP 23716 has had over half of all CMDRs that are involving themselves in the war focussed on it since Day 1, and only reached about 40% of the Bar. once the novelty factor wears off that's just going to collapse.

I'm all for making this a long game, but so far, you have made it impossible to even hold the line in ONE system, let alone make any push back.

Now for the other ridiculous part.

HIP 23716 started out with a Civilian Population of 1,586,297.
In just 1 week, Inara registered CMDRs alone, have evacuated 1,719,324 Civillians,
and killed 170 Thousand Thargoids, with a Kill:Loss ratio of 44:1 in our favour,
And yet, even though we've rescued more than the entire population, and killed more Thargoids than could possibly have fitted into the Taranis Maelstrom, the infestation counter moves against us.

You've never been great at balance have you? Looking forward to Tuesday's urgent re-balance update 14.02

Yes, it turned me, my squad, a lot of our allied PMF allys.
Just a comment: FDEV if you want to encourage people to re-engage: Assure you make your changes to balancing KNOWN. IF you dont want people to re-engage and let the bubble burn, just move on and leave things as is.
Sadly to say, we assembled today in discord and discuss the situation after today, we ended in talking about which game we move on too. The last thing we wanted to happen, but you frustrated a lot of long time , loyal folks.

To be fair, it's not like the 24 hour news channels in FDev's home country have been filled with progress reports on a Small nation defending itself against an invasion by a huge superpower and holding their ground, even pushing back week after week.

Oh, Wait...

Closing on my fourth decade of being a gamer and that is one of the worst game design I have ever saw. Not even joking.

See my earlier post in this thread on this. Spoiler: they're tracking pretty close so far...

I wrote RPG's. Elite has a horrid backstory, and a railroading Killer DM.
Yeah, but still base building and crafting systems are not the fundamentals of a RPG. Which was my point. Just because the recent popular games that have RPG elements lean heavily on those systems doesn't mean RPG equals base building and crafting.
