No Single Player offline Mode then?

You don't seem understand the difference between generating a solar system from a seed number(where the difficulty/amount of work varies based on the method from trivial to not so much) and simulating how a star and the orbiting bodies form(with some initial seed) over their lifetime which is what stellar forge does according to FD

See: http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u...73b1e&id=76df98203b&e=05b2017a0d#StellarForge

You both seem to be missing the point "... using similar methods as stellar forge", or does the space engine do something similar because afaik it does not?

Frankly, if the stellar forge needs significantly more resources than "regular" procedural generation it's an unnecessary and wasteful gimmick, since the end results are indistinguishable.

Elite 2 i loved what back then but let's not look at it with rose tinted glasses. It was a static universe where nothing changed. From the very beginning frontier have said that they want to make a game with a dynamic universe where people experience a universe that changes.

* and (also from the very beginning) that they'd have an offline mode where it didn't.

so halo is a mmo? 16 players max dude...no grouping...

M M O

MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE

WHERE'S MASSIVE IN ELITE?

There will be 32 players *at once*, and there will be group/wing support. You can still meet thousand of players during one session. It is MMO. It lacks more refined player comms, that's all. It's doable, and ain't rocket science.

yes? even in split screen?

i would love to know how to ignore such posts

Yeah, arrogance to hide ignorance. Halo has absolutely no relation. You can play it strictly offline, no internet connection. Elite will NEED an internet connection not just to log in, but constantly to even play the game, and how is there not grouping?

If they can change something so fundamental in the core game plan when we're 3 weeks from launch then I genuinely fear for the future and what will change.

Oh woe is me, woe is me, how about being positive and praising FD for what they have done and all the wonderful things we have to look forward to in the future, far too many people crying here recentely full of misery and pessimism, people need to get a grip, go outside get some air and have some fun, it will be a great game, and if it isnt the world will not end becuase of it, maybe it would if the earth got hit by a 50 mile wide comet, but a few people worrying about a game will not.:eek::D

So trivial that NASA hasn't even attempted it except with super computers

This is a game, not an astrophysical simulation.

It needs to produce something like looks like the Milky Way, not use relativistic equations to simulate how galaxies form to try to find out how dark matter works.

There have been programs that have simulated galaxies on PCs for decades, often with more fidelity than Elite.

Oh please forgive the vast majority for daring to criticize a blatently devious move by a company - the developers have done a great thing, but I don't think many of us have issue with the devs, but the business decisions being made suddenly.

Positivity is earned.

Anyway, this morning I let my mate down gently by saying 'you aren't going to be able to play ED' his blank expression told me he was letting the information sink in.
-
'Yeah I will' he replied
-
'no you won't, they have removed offline mode'
-
'well that sucks, they have lost a customer then, looks like I will need to go to the library next week and ask FD for a refund'
-
'Yeah, at least it was only a pre-order so shouldn't be a problem'
-
'Ah well, at least I can carry on playing Oolite'
