If folks are so unhappy with no offline mode they should request a refund and move on , if the dont want a refund they need to get over the disappointment and move on.

Michael Brookes i have to say is that you have the patience of a saint , how many different ways are there to say sorry we cant do it

The difference is not an internet connection.

The difference is not being able to play the game by anyone once the servers go off.

Which could happen .. That could also happen to Netflix, Spotify, Sky, Itunes, Steam .. Etc .. Etc ..

Unless we go back to good old trusty non up-datable physical media that will always be a concern. I can bet a fair few people moaning here use at least one of the aforementioned services. Which ALL require a connection at some point on a regular basis.

Your worrying about something that quite frankly isnt in the great scheme of things worth worrying about.

So someone paid £40 for a copy of ED, five years down the line FD decide to turn the servers off. I would say that is money well spent personally.

Really are you going to cry over £40 for five years of gameplay? The reality is that the game will probably last a lot longer than that in one form or another. In the end it makes me laugh what people 'worry about'. Your worried about the longevity of a £40 game. What if you £5000 Itunes account suddenly became useless, then what would you do?

Get a grip here people ....

My take is if you don't have or can't get a good enough net connection then you should get a refund. If you don't meet that criteria the stop moaning.

Your solution is so elegant /s. If only Microsoft could have hired you before the guy shot himself in the foot in the xbox division by saying that "if you don't have internet, we don't want you to play our game, you can play the 360."

Offline only is an important part of gameplay for many people. This is one of the reasons that MS got massacred by Sony this gen.

Too bad it isn't, you can at least play Call of Duty once the MP servers get shut down (which they actually never do on PC, since they're run on steam).

You torpedoed your own argument.

My point is that this isn't a game that'll lose server support for a long long time.

So no, I didn't torpedo my own argument.

Would you prefer the company was run into the ground attempting to deliver something else?

This is blackmail
At least it sounds like that.
You should do as we say so or else you will not get a game or the quality will be worse.
Is this professionalism ?

Except everyone who backed through kickstarter (and probably the people who backed through the store on this site) literally cannot get a refund.

If FD would provide me with a refund, I'd be happy to accept at this point.

Its a logical point and you come up with that comment.

The reply to me was not logical, in fact, and mentioned a DIFFERENT issue with the lack of offline mode, nothing to do with the DIFFERENCE between solo and offline. What I did, was state a fact, answering the basic difference in the context of the post being replied to. The reply to me was random, at best, which led to my follow up comment. Feel free to dissect this further, fact is the reply to ME was unrelated, and treated as such.

How do you know? If this game tanks on release (which is likely given it's current development) FD could shut down, and the servers will go with it.

Then we all wasted $100+ dollars, didn't we?

it is. You can do a forum search for recent posts by Michael Brookes.

Wrong. Some people chose not to play online. The were led to believe that they could. They are also entitled to a refund and they should not "stop moaning."

Wanted to buy a new computer only for ED at christmas, i think i will make a bigger gift for my wife and my children LOL. Perhaps trying X3 Rebirth (with their patch it seems to be ok now....

Thats great but what if we want to play in 20 or 30 years? you know, like we can still play the BBC Elite and the C64 Elite and the Amiga Frontier right now? :)

You can because the systems haven't changed. It's improbable that you will be able to run any game on windows in 20 years.

The same reasoning like this morning. Nothing new. Nothing solid.

I agree. But this could not logically be done without compromising the online component. It would open the game up to easy exploitation.

They already have the server component releasing it would not "run them into the ground"

And the game is probably going to be exploited anyway, we will know by how many security patches we get in the first few months after release, that's if they are transparent enough to share that with us and just not put it all in one generic update"addressing various issues" kinda thing, but no game is secure for long I can't think of one.... especially.. a P2P model which is inherently insecure :(

Just have to quote this. Brilliant. :)

Also to the people claiming you have to be on-line to use Steam games. You do not. Valve are one of the few remaining good distribution people - I and many others would not use them if they did not have an off-line mode, which they do.
