Arc points for explorers - The big rip off

It should be a challenge to hit that cap for all playstyles (or none I guess).

WHAT!?!

Why should it be a challenge? FDEV literally give free ARX to encourage people to play, but you want to make it so hard to get the ARX people have to play constantly to get them? That's really....well....really strange and entirely negates the point of free ARX, they are a reward for playing, not a grind target which you seem to want to make them! If they were so hard to get that you had to struggle to get them I wouldn't struggle to get them, I would still keep doing exactly what I am doing now, I just wouldn't get 400 free ARX per week. ARX aren't a mechanism to get players to change their playstyle to earn them, ARX are basically a free gift for playing. This is an entirely bizarre interpretation of "FREE" ARX, they stop being free the moment you make them a grind target!

During my entire history of playing I have spent ARX exactly twice, once to get the vintage space suit and once to change my FC, I literally have over 40k ARX in my ARX account and have no intention if spending them, and they were all free. I don't care about free ARX really, all I care about is playing the game, it's the OP who wants the game changed so they can get free ARX for doing nothing. The fact my playstyle just happens to earn me 400 free ARX per week us a coincidence at the moment, when I was working on the HIP project sometimes I was so far out on the fringes and stars were so sparse I couldn't actually earn 400 ARX per week, and you know, that didn't bother me at all, funny that!

The triggers for arx gain are a bit arbitrary. For explo every jump, every complete scan and every 100% DSS dropping an arx would probably be enough to make it doable.

Miners should be complaining more than explo. You get exactly nothing for doing that, not even the meager droppings for explo. :p

SRV racers get nothing either, they should at least get 1 arx for each kilometer driven. :ROFLMAO:

I've noticed that spending many hours out in the black exploring guardian stuff, thargoid sites, etc gives very few arx, and thought it a bit unfortunate. On the other hand I never thought to complain about it. Still maybe they should just reward arx for hours played instead of how it's being done right now (or in addition)? I mean I could probably spend 40 hours investigating barnacles and barnacle forests and not get many at all...

That way people would just leave their game running while asleep.

Yes, as long as they periodically check for some kind of cmdr activity. Some basic AFK prevention. Obviously more than just walking against a wall all day.

I think that depends on the hardware, IIRC my CPU never hits more than 10% or so, can't remember what the GPU hits but I limit it to 60 fps, and less if in the background (12900k/4090). Still far too many watts to idle away :)

To spend quite a significant amount of time pursuing this, to explore the entire system,
The important question is: Do you submit your exploration data to the searchable EDSM, and maybe Cannon? If not, your exploration efforts are wasted, anyway, no matter how many ARX. UC just dumps your data in the trash, never to be seen again. (It would be nice if community projects could award ARX ;) )

What do you use ARX for, though? I currently fly the free paintjobs from Twitch drops. :)

I don't use any third party tools. My explo data certainly isn't wasted, I use it to start conflicts, flip systems, push retreats and maintain control of factions.

It's definitely wasted if it doesn't find its way into a database for others to access. And you don't even need to use any tools, all you have to do is create an account on EDSM and upload all your journal files.

To me that's more a BGS tool and doesn't depend on discovering systems and not making their maps available to others. You could do the same with bounty bonds and trade.

So you fly in Solo, exploration-wise. That's fine. I'd say the galaxy is too big for everyone to map it on their own.

Anyway, this isn't about ARX anymore. I just wanted to butt in that True Explorers pool their data. scnr. Fly safe! :)
