Odyssey Mission Woes still a thing?

Returning after a long hiatus with shiny new HOTAS - got Odyssey on sale - and now I'm finding myself very put out.

3 Separate "On foot" Missions now I've had this exact thing happen.

1: You get mission from a terminal
2: You go there by your own ship or by shuttle
3: Find the guy/gal standing there - you say hey!
4: You get an option to say yeah I got the goods or no I don't - but you can't pick either one - its just flat stuck.

I've had to make choices with said interface before - like when getting a shuttle ride ordered.
I've had to nuke my save file twice now because missions being abandoned result in stupidly high fines for starting out.

I see people saying "nope not seen this" - but the ones who have are usually having trouble finding items or various salvage/restoration missions.

Are Odyessy missions just flat screwed right now or what? Should I just stick to horizon mode until they fix this?

Everything else literally works - except this. Don't get it.

I'll try again when I get through the tutorial for the Nth time and this time land in my ship and attempt to hand it in from said ship - hopefully that works - talk about immersion breaking.

EDIT : Thanks to an rather helpful user - apparently you need to set "UI Panel Select" to the controller or whatever your using to make it work - for some reason its an oversight or some weird thing in the game. So if it happens - now you know where to check.

The biggest issue with the deliver/transport missions is that the item/NPC won't spawn and requires multiple relogs to get them to show up. I haven't done enough of these to see the bug you're talking about. There are other issues in Odyssey and most are fixed with a relog.
"Everything else literally works - except this. Don't get it." Nobody else does either, but this is they way things go. Missions were bugged in Horizons for years as well, no fixes for many of them and others were fixed by completely revamping the missions in beyond. You simply apply the work around (relogging) and move on. There seems to be no use in reporting the issues as they fall out of the cue and are never fixed/acknowledged.
Overall, I'm enjoying Odyssey, the engineering is too grindy, but I'm getting close to being done with the major parts of.

Were these 3 in one sitting?
My feeling is that most of the problems with odyssey missions come from temporary server issues.
Some sessions everything works flawless, some sessions 40% of the missions bug out.
So when you encounter a broken mission you can usually expect more of them.
Relogging should fixes these things.
I just Alt-F4 and do something else with my evening 🤷‍♂️

re-logging didn't work - and no only 2 where in one sitting.
I've walked away from odyssey until if ever is fixed.

Even if I forgot to pick up said item (which isn't clear) - I should be able to say "no I don't got the item" - not being able to choose any dialogue option at all is just crazy.

The gameplay loop is get the mission, find the person and deliver the item. If you don't want to delivery the item, don't find the person.

As far as bugged missions, yes they happen and it sucks but is usually able to remedied. For the ones that can't be remedied, I either let them expire or cancel them outright. My suggestion is use your ship to get a bunch of credits (trading, mining, delivering, etc...) so that you can weather the fines easier when things do go awry.

What does gameplay loop have to do with it? How is that relevant? When did this even become a question? All I did was point out how I got it to repeat and show up. Not sure why your giving me advise on this.

As for your suggestion in abandoning or expiration - no thanks - don't want or care for 100k+ Fines at the beginning of the game and being locked out of station services.

Again - brand new save - just starting out - can't be clearer than that. Don't have luxury of nice big ship and being able to burn credits like nothing...yet.

Not sure what made you think this was a mature save.

For now ill be shutting off oddyessy until they fix it - as its obviously not a finished product.

Can't say i've ever had this, but it has been many months since i did one, so maybe something has broke.

Are you checking to see you actually have the item you need to deliver on your person? It should automatically put it in your backpack, but maybe that part is bugged. It still shouldn't give you no options when you approach them without the item though, at least the option to say you don't have the item should be active.

That was the first thing I asked myself - but here's the kicker.
Regardless of whether I left the item back on the "dock" or not - moot point - because the prompt gives me two choices
"Here's your item"
"I need to check if I got it" or some variation thereof.

I should be able to choose either option - a lie or not - false or not - truth or not - and get told off or thanked for delivering said item.
Instead the prompt is ignored - nothing can be chosen - no answer is allowed - and I'm forced to escape out/abandon/expire and get fined up the ass.

I was not able to find a backpack option or inventory - but then the item I was shipping was a schematic or data - likening to courier mission and less shipping physical goods.

Maddening to be sure. - It wouldn't be so bad if I could turn it in from the ship when I set down - or at a terminal - but that's not a thing apparently.

Also when I do reach the "location" - I get a mission update ping - but no message or email or anything - so it's gotta be indicating I've got the goods in hand.

The prompts also don't tell me to take items with me as it does when in "ship" mode where you get warnings and indicators as to "requirements"

I'm rather stumped to be honest.

i did some fetch/delivery missions and had no issues.

Check the bindings for the command wheel while, backpack is the downward button on the wheel (corresponding to the South position on a Compass)

The only times i failed delivery missions was when i had my backpack full and the game cannot put the item in your inventory - and you get no error message about them

Wait, you don't know how to access your backpack on foot?
It wasn't terribly clear on that point - but as I said... I should have been able to "get yelled at" for not having them item.

If this was a matter of forgetting to pack the item in my backpack - this would be a differently discussion entirely.

At least if I did the same thing in the ship missions - I'd find nothing to push button wise to turn mission in.
In this case I wasn't even allowed to "choose" my dialogue option - and get yelled at by the NPC - not even getting that!

So backpack thing is moot at this point.

No binding for it - but yeah I could have poked around a bit more - but as I keep saying - I'd be happy if the NPC would yell at me to tell me I didn't have the item in hand - not being able to do that means this is a bigger problem than the backpack.

No worries. You won't get any further words from me...

The game deposits mission items in your backpack when you leave the ship. I suspect you are not using the right binds to select the option.

I run into that.

I use a controller for on foot and a HOTAS for space/SRV.

My controller won't let me select an option for the NPC interaction, but my HOTAS will so I use my HOTAS to make the selection then go back to the controller to head back to my ship/shuttle.

Not sure if there is a bind for that or not. I've never spent much time looking for it.

BTDT -

Used every button I've got - even had it in keyboard/controller hybrid mode. (I had HOTAS Set to Ship/Scarab and Controller/Keyboard to on-foot)
There's no conflict in terms of what your implying that I could identify.
Same prompts would show up when I order a shuttle taxi or talk to other vendors at the stations.
Pretty much facerolled my keyboard/sticks to figure out if I had a binding somewhere.

I was able to get the on foot prompts in settlement to work by adding my controller bindings to Options->Controls->General Controls.

Previously, I just had the HOTAS settings mapped on the right side, but I added the controller bindings to the left side and then I was able to respond and navigate dialog prompts when on foot.

I've done hundreds of these missions, and the only issue I've seen was a missing NPC at the settlement. A re-log always fixes that, so no big deal. Are the NPC menus a pain to navigate? Yes, but they are navigable.

This game does alot, but it absolutely refuses to hold your hand. Most of it has to be figured out through careful trial-and-error, or detailed instructions from others. That is ED, plain and simple. If that's too much for you, ED is too much for you.
