ahhh, was it you i just read giving marketing advice to a company? if you want to throw stones from your glasshouse, either aim properly or calm down

That simply makes no sense. You've just seriously compared people's subjective opinions with discussion of the basic principles of marketing?

Well okay then ....

Press ctrl b when playing in solo mode. The bandwidth requirements are a trickle.

Typical argument of people whose applications need just a "tiny bit of bandwidth". Hear this all the time in business.

How do you know what Volkira's current bandwidth usage looks like? You are a professional seer?

The reality is, if bandwidth is at 99% usage or more it doesn't matter how "tiny" the bandwidth requirements are.

It's like a car with 5 seats, if all 5 seats are occupied, there is no 5th and a half seat to squeeze you in safely, even if you are just 4 feet tall and weigh 80 lbs

You would if you were the only car. Which is kind of the point being made.

Yes but in this game the universe will always have either npcs/npcs other people/ whether you play offline or online mode, even if you had pure offline mode with only npcs they would still be going about their business.

At what point did you think that in this game there would just be you and nothing else going on in real time ? whether it be npcs doing their thing or npcs/people doing their thing, or do you expect for all ships in the universe to stop all activities whilst you leave your computer chair to make a drink ?

There must be plenty of tools out there that would enable you to block browser access to the Internet but still allow ED to run unfettered.

Their design philosophy seems to have changed somewhat in the last 72 hours.

Their design policy was not to offer offline mode in first place. Sure, they promised, and they will face consequences. But it doesn't change the fact offline mode wasn't originally in inception at all.

What was in inception was MMO/MP like game with strong emphasis on dynamic galaxy.

So the current status is no working online play and no forthcoming offline play.

Seriously, I feel scammed.

To "curses", who repped that post as "Misrepresentative at best": how is it misrepresentative? Fact is that open multiplayer has not worked for me for any significant duration ever since premium beta started, and solo online still has a lot of issues with basic transactions (missions, trade, etc.).

Having so far paid 120 € for the game with the promise of an offline mode (and having subsequently been stupid enough to waste another 13 € on that wireframe Cobra skin), how would I feel different?

Another reason why I want single player offline is that I had bought a 2nd copy of the game (with an expansion pass) for use by my 9-year-old daughter, thinking she'd be able to play it on a (as yet unbuilt) PC that didn't require internet access.

I'm not at all comfortable in allowing her unfettered access to the internet, and the fact that it could be played offline (or occasionally in a private group with me under strict supervision) was a selling point for me also. The galaxy is real, and flying around it would have been an amazing passive learning experience for her.

Now that is basically shot to pieces too. :(

I'm surprised by the variety in reasons people bring up for what an utter disaster the no offline mode is for them. :)

You could deny internet access to your daughters PC for everything apart from Elite.

A company makes decisions based on making the best possible experience for the majority of its customers, it does not ruin an experience or product for the sake of the few.

When it has taken considerable amounts of money from people on the repeated assurance of an experience you don't get to walk away from it without reputational consequences.

Well, it is valid concern, because it's complete antithesis of how ED was originally depicted.

It won't, because it won't be entirely automated process. FD has addressed that on many occasions.

Just like they've repeatedly said there will be an offline-mode until a month before release?

Well okay then ....

its cool, i wasnt referring to you tagos, many wires crossed here!

it has been a valuable lesson in what happens when you take away something people want/believe in/paid for

this whole sorry mess hopefully will be over in a few days when FD refund everyone with a valid concern and all those disaffected souls can leave the forum and leave those who value the hard work of the devs to return to discussing bugs, gameplay and the future

Really.. where are you getting these facts?

I would be more inclined to suggest it seems more like 50/50.

Now i know you are trolling, i'd say more like 5- 15% with the 5% being the most vocal and the top estimate including those that have posted about the decision but taken the news on board and though disappointed still support FD.

See how stats work, easy to make up eh ;)
