No Single Player offline Mode then?

I've certainly not read all 5000+ posts in this thread - but essentially what I see is a general crying about Frontier removing the offline mode option .... is it REALLY that big of a deal?

I have my reasons, you have yours. If it wasn't such a big deal they shouldn't have advertised it originally. It is a big deal to me.

I'd be surprised if anyone was against the idea of offline mode. I certainly don't need it, it sounds flat and dull to me. But I would have been happy if it were possible. I don't think anyone would disagree with that sentiment.

So when you see us arguing with you, it's not because we didn't want offline mode before. It's because we don't want it now, given the impact it would have on the game. That and some of us feel compelled to argue against things that have no reason or logic (which represents a portion of the more wild accusatory posts in this thread).

Simples. Request FD to implement a parent protection. It's actually very good idea.

Why? We backed the game with a promise of offline mode which comes with inherent parent protection. We just want what was promised to us during the kickstarter campaign.

Why is FD rushing the release and reneging on promises after being so forthcoming in the past?! (dedicated offline/25 ships at release etc) Dont us, weve been loyal and understanding all the way..so do the same to us now..no marketing ploys no doubletalk...give it to us straight...and bring back ED news to the NEWSLETTER. Its not a sales promo section its supposed to be news about ED developement.

As has been posted in another thread, if they don't get the game out before Christmas, it may seriously affect their share price. As David Braben is a 56% share holder, you know where to point most of your finger for the decision. The very man who was so dissappointed in being forced to release Frontier First Encounters early. You can't blame the publisher this time, Dave.

Stuff happens in real life that requires *immediate* attention. Not like making a drink, pfft, or other patronising suggestions.
Space station parking takes time to get there.
Hitting "0% thrust" takes no time.
Pausing isn't really pausing in online... I would've been blown up anyway... And quitting and saving was fraught with bugs at the time, losing mission status while retaining cargo labelled as mission cargo, etc.
I acknowledge my error now (although I can't see the motivation for a human to prey on static ships with no bounty, no weapons deployed, etc).

Whilst simultaneously creating a ridiculous strain on the development team as they try to figure out a way of getting all the shared online information into the offline version of the game. This would likely take a lot of time away from developing the rest of the game for the people who are more than happy to not have an offline mode. How is it in any way fair to devote time and resources to pleasing a minority of the customers whose contention in absolutely no way prevents them from playing the game?

In exactly the same way as it's fair for them to take the money backed by those who want offline-mode and use it to develop an always-online game.

I'm personally quite happy there won't be any pure offline mode. It's the 21st century.

Who doesn't have internet access but spends so much time on an online forum complaining about this ? oh yeah right ... ;)

For the second time, it is not a private forum, it is as public as any other public forum.

And kindly refrain from telling me what to do, your as bad as the rest of the thought police in here.

Sorry that you cannot understand me, your problem though, not trying to tell you what to do, dont know who you are, dont care either. :D

Little unsure why you would want to allow your children to be a part of a dangerous world where you can have slaves, transport drugs and kill others players/npc's especially unsupervised. but that's another topic altogether...

Actually this is a very good point ^^

It is because we like to be in our world in a considered way.

I hate to be so blunt with you on this but what is it about E:D that makes you think of it as your world when a large part of the design of the game was centred around it being a living galaxy with multiple players? Isn't it better to try and think of the game as a shared world that you inhabit rather than a world solely for you?

Denial, Check.
Anger, Check.
Bargaining, Check.
Today will be very depressing, Check.
…..
Acceptance?

the problem is this isn't just a grieving process. this is a business and we are customers. part of ending the grieving, for many, will be a firm commitment to never supporting an FD kickstarter or FD game again.

We can 'accept' the end outcome, but FD may have just done themselves a huge disservice for the future. For a loss-making company im astounded at their behaviour towards a loyal fan base that should really have been nurtured not disappointed repeatedly...!

I would expect DB plans to sell FD at some point when possible since the current cap of his share price doesn't really stack up against the total profit of the company - he must have an exit strategy in mind, and part of that will be building ED into as good as game market wise as possible and potentially moving some shares on. At this rate, i dont see his plan changing. Those who think FD will be around forever supporting this game as a cost forever need to take a hard look at this company's fundamentals:

either way, im now done posting on this topic, but im very, very dark about it. given how much of a mess the network code , P2P performance, and server comms is in, im shocked i now dont even have an offline mode to look forward to. if this game isnt sorted by release date at the latest to an acceptable play state, then im out of here. Im sure many feel the same.
The loyalists can stick around and bear through the patches and diminishing play group and watch FD start laying off staff as the project reaches maturity and see shares offloaded and various changes made with less and less community engagement, but that's never a fun process to watch a game go through. I think many will gravitate to other space games, as sad as that makes me.

Cmon FD. Don't drop the ball so epic hard at this late stage. Make online/MP and online/solo a flawless experience, save your future customers from leaving/bailing/remaining extremely disenfranchised, and lets get this game to be awesome. Cmon!! I beg you. Get the netcode sorted. Either make P2P work or make the hard decision (but right decision) to switch to client server. DO WHATEVER IS NEEDED TO MAKE THIS GAME *WORK*. Just 'enough' isn't good enough, hasn't been good enough this whole time, and is reflected in just how many people care about offline mode.

If online modes were flawless, and communications were handled a lot better about offline mode, a lot earlier, none of this would even be happening.

I hope for the best, but FD have broken the trust all the backers, and all us customers placed in them. Broken promises, broken networking, broken lots of things. Most of all our trust.

I hope like hell this gets sorted out. FD need to right now get on top of these network issues and solve all the major bugs and make a really good go of the launch. anything less than a series of great outcomes in a row will be insufficient to save the player base and positive sentiments the game originally had.

Maybe her higher perspective on life would lead her to play a Federation trader? Someone who abhors slavery and combat?
