Summer DLC Speculation 2023

Once I was really curious of all your opinions and insights but for some time I try to avoid them.

It’s getting really hard to read this thread 🙈 so much negativity and tunnel vision 🤯

Too much carnivores!

Too much ungulates!

Where are the birds!

Why Frontier hates monkeys!?

Ignoring the fact that Frontier just created one of the hardest to make animals - the porcupine!

Another clone!

They didn’t put enough work in it!

People it’s a pack for 9,99$ and we get the highest quality content that people work on very hard for months.

This is all ridiculous and you are simply being rude and ungrateful.

Stop for a moment and try to really think that we should be happy that this game still exists and new content is created on schedule.

I’m out
🫶🏽
I understand where you're coming from and I will try to tone down my disappointment with this pack. I do think the Porcupine was an absolute nightmare to design, so I definitely give them credit for that. I'm buying the pack, no question about that. I just wish the pack had a little more variety than 5 ungulates. I'm glad the Somali Wild Ass is coming as I know that's an animal you've been wanting for a long while now. And as a third equid I don't have an issue with it.

What is gets me the most is it's not just one but two African Antelopes.Y'all know how I feel about the AA anyways, having two is like something out of my nightmare pack picks.

But I digress. I know the developers work hard and have a passion for this game that I've rarely seen with other developers (at least in their public actions). It just feels like, Porcupine aside, this pack doesn't really show that. But that's probably the whole thing, the Porcupine makes up the lion's share of the effort here.

And...hard work continues and generates great results even if it isn't always immediate. They may be working on something bigger than we think behind the scenes.

I got feelings about this pack, good and bad, but I think I'm gonna wait till it's out and we've seen all the models before I give a judgement.

At first I thought this did kill a potential desert pack but thinking about it you could argue that this (and the tropical pack) are more "climate based" rather than "biome based". Probably just me overthinking naming conventions.

This is an interesting point. I think twilight, tropical and arid do feel like they are in a different category from wetlands and grasslands.

I'd like to believe this but it's been 4 packs with the existence of Walkthrough Exhibits and yet we still don't have a bird. My hope has basically run out. It's baffling to me that they can release a system that allows flying animals and then just not put a bird in it.

I suspect they keep birds for a sequel. At this point if we'd get birds in the WEs it would honestly be a waste, like the pteranodons in JWE1 that were just a useless decoration compared to the dynamic aviaries of JWE2.

Getting something like budgerigar could make us build something like this:
LivingDesertZoo_Australian_Adventures_habitat_0dc30448-5654-4536-a86d-e6155a5b747f.jpg

I can't see how that would be a waste, even if it would be the only bird. Instead we are getting another square box to decorate.

I will stand by that a cobra would be a wasted slot. They can't do the neck frill display in an exhibit, and that's their main appeal.
Personally, I wouldn't mind losing a bit of realism and getting a cobra with that animation. After all, our deer don't loose their antlers, our Arctic foxes don't change colour, our keepers carry elephants in a box, etc. Another example I wouldn't mind is getting walrus with actual tusks. I think the game can allow some creative licenses and not being 100% realistic.

How can you say they are unnecessary? It’s gonna be our first gazelle from the beginning of the game, distinct looks with their elegant long necks, plus Critically Endangered and very important for conservation projects - I am so glad we are getting those.

There are some pack for everyone - Twilight was not my favorite but I’ve loved the scenery and the fact that it made so many people happy with the racoon addition.

So now only Père David’s deer and I am done 🤩😋
I do agree with the Critically Endangered part, the game needs more CR-status animals, WAY more. I just wish we had a little bit more variety and gotten the Honey Badger or Hamadryas Baboon instead. And that's just North Africa/Arabian Peninsula I'm pulling from to keep the theme of the pack intact. Looking back though, it is a cute gazelle and it's the one kind of hoofstock we needed more of so I'm a little more open to it now.

I thought most people agreed antelopes was the one type of hoofstock we DIDN'T need more of. Most people I've been hearing say the most needed group is caprines.

Reminds me of how even with this being the North African Hoofstock Pack, we still didn't manage to get the aoudad. Given any mountains/highlands pack will no doubt be filled with competition from more popular caprines, I think their chances have now been dramatically reduced.

I think feelings here are mixed and Most people does Not have an agreement. Personally I would Wish 4 further antelopes, which are all in its own way unique:

1.Kirk Dik Dik (We do Not have a real small antelope, you can also Take the Klipspringer or a small Duiker species but I prefer the Dik Dik)
2.Eland (The opposite from the Dik Dik,.the biggest antelope, potentially also the Nilgai could be choice instead of the Eland)
3.Blackbuck (Just beautiful and an Asian Antelope which we do Not really have until now)
4.Gerenuk (In my opinion it Just Looks funny and could offer unique Animations)

In case of caprines I also See 3-4 Potential animals:
Markhor
Takin
Musk Ox
Barbary Sheep

I also would like to See one really small Deer species Like the Muntjac or the Pudu

In case of horse like species I think we are fine. We now have a horse, a Donkey and a Zebra.

Not really. But the another gazelle and maybe the addax were certanly not priorities over the blackbuck (which seems to be the most popular), the dik dik, gerenuk and saiga.

I personally want the greater kudu and black face impala as well.

The Addax was quite popular (at least according to the Meta Wishlist). But yes, your other 4 examples would have been much more distinct than the Dama Gazelle and also the Addax. And at least the Dik Dik would also have fit to an African arid theme in my opinion. The Greater Kudu by the way also belongs to the more popular remaning antelopes.

I feel like the effort to make the sand cat might have been overlooked. While they could re-use some animations from the bigger cats, they might have to make some specialized behavior for one probably closest in size to a Lynx cub. Any work they've done on it could hopefully be re-used for a hopefully a Pallas's and perhaps a Fishing Cat, which would be pretty cool. I'm sure the porcupine was the most work, but the sand cat could have taken effort as well.

The Dromedary looked so much better than the Bactrian while it was walking, and it seems to have color morphs. I'm sure it took a bit of effort, too. Even the other ungulates would require some changes. I think some people were saying that the black rhino moves so differently from the white that it wouldn't be a clone.

Speaking of cats and animations:
If they added one, a margay would probably come from a modified fossa? A more popular ocelot could come from a smaller clouded leopard. The serval is pretty unique. Maybe the cheetah or Caracal?

I was referring to Gazella instead of general antelopes as a whole. We only had the Thomson's gazelle and now dama. I know they're also antelopes but I'm just diving into the specific sub-group.

It's a terrible idea making birds Walkthrough Exhibits.

Birds are highly requested.
People commonly say we need more than an animal pack (eight species) to make the amount of birds feel realistic for a zoo.

Most zoos have several birds to represent each continent. A pack of 8 would leave roughly one bird representative per continent.

Also if we get a walkthrough bird....

Would all 8 birds afterwards ALL be walkthrough exhibits??

Would every flying bird HAVE to be a walkthrough species. That sucks!

Who would let you walk through an endangered condor exhibit????
A macaw would break your finger. They crack brazil nuts with their beak, real zoos don't risk patrons losing digits.

They don't allow you to get that close to the animals, even in walkthrough exhibits (like found at the CALIFORNIA ACADEMY OF SCIENCES). Technically it's a walkthrough exhibit with parrots/birds, but you cannot touch them the way the area is designed. There is still a separation.

It's a terrible idea making birds WE.

I don't want eagle and owl, and hornbill, and toucan and kookaburra exhibits to all have to be walkthrough. That would be a real disappointment.

We need birds and aquariums to make this game feel fleshed out. I have money, I will pay GOOD money for an aviary or aquarium pack. If the aviary pack is 8 walkthrough exhibits good god help us, I'm not paying for that.

That is absolutely not what I had in mind when I was requesting birds.
