Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

More or less me, just a couple of games a year. I spend a lot of my gaming time going back and playing old games as well, so don't really have time to keep playing with all the new shiny games as well. And these days, most new games just don't tend to interest me. For example, there hasn't been a year where I haven't gone back and played a campaign or two in Medieval 2, which came out in.... 2006.... ouch.
Medieval II? That's so old my iMac can play it comfortably ;)

I've spent many an hour in Third Age trying to hold the hordes of Morgul at bay. In the same boat as A_A, too many good old games to catch up on to worry that much about the latest shiny (though Starfield and Manor Lords look very shiny).

Well, Shogun 2 TW is kinda a pinnacle in the franchise. I still play the Meiji restoration DLC (FotS, but that sounds very dirty for my German ear).

I have Shogun 2, but just couldn't get into it. That's no comment on the games, just on me :)

I'm rather fond of Empire. Smarted to have to play the filthy rebels and give the loyal British a bit of a spanking ;)

Hey just in case you star citizen backers are feeling a vortex of impulse spending that's about to implode.. why don't you get one of these maybe the headset, and hug it to sleep. Its spectacular.. and works for pc.

I don't usually go for the limited controllers.. turns out its much cheaper to buy a black one and buy a custom case online.. but this is just next level. The most amazing souvenier / microtransaction for a space game out there!

But.. really.. just get on of these, will be where you're at soon :)
Still cheaper than a jpeg though?

New engine jank. It was a downgrade to sieges the franchise never recovered from. Empire is great but doesn't work really so well. We all wanted firearms. Shogun 2 isn't perfect - about the same siege jank and comparable nollocks for naval battles but then you get Kotetsu! (bzoooieyoooo!!! boiler explosion!) and go to town. Plus the colonial officers to blow up ****! Gatling gunz! Gotta love the offmap artillery and you can gun down Tom Cruise nonstop. Yeah, I always go imperial.
And then there is the whole presentation, artwork, music - if Japan was looking for some kind of promoter for its culture Shogun 2 did a great job at that. What a fine and artful presentation.

Are these mods? I never tried mods with medieval 2. I used to edit the tables a bit myself.

Hell, there are some really good mods out there. Third Age and Divide and Conquer are total conversions.

Third Age basically sets the game in the world of the Lord of the Rings. So you can play as Gondor, Rohan, Mordor, etc.

DaC expands on Third Age a lot more, adding a load more custom settlements, regions, factions, etc.

There was some controversy a couple of years ago with DaC though. Third Age devs always supported DaC as long as they kept the requirement to install was that it would be a sub-mod of TA, so you'd install TA first then DaC.

DaC devs decided to not comply and made their own full installer, which meant adding the content from TA to their own installer. This got them disowned by the TA team and banned from the most popular forum (twcenter) and any mention of them on that forum will get your post deleted and a warning from the mods.

So, links to TA are still there on twcenter and you can find all versions linked there (and on moddb).

D&C latest version you can't find there anymore... i think you can still get version 4.6 from moddb, but for version 5 (came out this year) you need to go to their Discord for the links.

If you want to keep the medieval theme there are lots of other good mods on twcenter. Stainless Steel is quite popular, although never tried it.

Anyway, that's enough from me on the topic, suspect mods will step in if we don't get back on topic.

My dear Agony, when the Sun has burned out to a cinder, and all life extinguished on our planet, and SC still hasn’t been released - alien civilizations will probe through our wreckage and try to piece together the obvious religious significance of the gas station roller dog.

Meh, I do all the subscription services...EA play pro (annual sub), Ubisoft connect+, MS Gamepass ultimate, PlayStation plus (annual sub for the PS5)...they suit the way I like to play or try out a huge variety of games from different game studios and genres...works out a lot cheaper for me in the long run since adding all the subs together amounts to roughly the cost of one AAA game per month. If I only bought and played one or two games a year for instance, the subscription services might not be such good value in that case. 🤷‍♂️
Definitely not worth it for me. Definitely a one or two games a year person, with at least one of those from a Steam sale…
