Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

Out of curiosity, what was frontiers thing at gamescon?
Ftr I really would like them to add new features to PZ instead of making PZ2
To fans of PC, do you think the game is good enough without the need of a pc2?
I am still holding out hope for my hypothetical Planet Aquarium
I recently got JWE2 and I must say I really like it. I was planning on waiting for prehistoric kingdom but the version they have still has a long way to go. I like the hotel, lagoon and ride functions but I think they belong apart of JWE. The aviaries however I think should be incorporated into PZ.

They’re definitely gonna have all or most of the animals from dlc in the game already
So other than birds and marine animals what is left for DLCs to sell then? Most of the big names and popular animals that help sell packs would be already in the base game if the start with the current roster...

So is only logical that if they do a PZ2 then they will re sell us a lot of the same animals we already got in the currents DLCs just maybe an improved version of them.

I think it depends. Look at JWE2.
Besides the species that come in the films and series, a lot of their packs feature random species, such as the Wuerhosaurus, Shonisaurus, and Austrolovenator. But they still sell like hot cakes.

I don't think it's super impossible for a hypothetical PlanZo 2 to feature DLC with random species

Yes but JWE2 has the whole weight and popularity of the JW franchise behind it. It will sell well regardless. And is not like they are aiming at paleo fans or trying to make accurate animals. As long as they provide another bunch of monsters to play with people will buy it and not care what they even are lol

There’s a bunch of animals PZ will miss

Besides that the game remains fairly unbalanced (SA underrepresentation, lack of birds, lack of primates, no waterfowl, no lagomorphs, no tree roos, no walrus, no coati, no tassie)
To us, maybe. To the general audience if you check reviews, a common complaint is that all terrestrial animals aee retreading the same ground. The game is likely seen as "complete" to the average player.

Yeah but none of them are high profile imo, no matter how much we currently want them. Most of the big names are already in game and were added in the DLCs. And the birds alone won't carry the whole sequel.
You're right about that, but we shouldn't necessarily dismiss the possibility of other animals being popular.
After all, we have a ton of animals to choose from within the known mechanics of the game, such as various birds that don't require aviaries, like pheasants and ducks, many different deer and antelope species, as well as lots of small carnivorans

I mean what’s high profile is subjective and the hypothetical addition of aquariums and aviaries is enough to carry with the occasional terrestrial species added in. Plus if they add smaller animals like rodents, rabbits and the like we’ll have content forever

We need to talk about the moving of the goalposts going on in the community. If anyone 2-3 years ago would declare the tasmanian devil or tree kangaroo "essential", or "necessary for completion of the roster" they'd be called out as niche and unneccessary.

Hell I still remember when a ton of amerian players declared the game complete following the north america pack.

The game already has all widely known high profile zoo animals. It's just that as we get more animals we want we keep declaring new animals as "essential" and "zoo basics" as a community, and this moving of the goalposts will seemingly never end.

An objective measure is whether the current animal roster is sufficient to build a real-life major zoo collection that you could visit? The answer to that question is unequivocally NO.

There's not enough small mammals, particularly monkeys and nocturnal primates. You can't build a decent realistic nocturnal house in the game. There are not enough reptiles and amphibians to build a large reptile house. There are no birds. The insect collection is also missing key iconic species so that even building a small insect house right now feels incomplete.

Whether or not there is any commercial demand for these "niche" animals and thus whether Frontier will ever address this in a meaningful fashion is unknown. But we can always hope to be drip fed 1-2 niche animals for every DLC to get closer and closer to being able to build a major real-life zoo.

Whether or not a hypothetical "PZ2" includes all or most of the current PZ roster depends entirely on what the game actually looks like. As I've said before, ZT2 didn't include a bunch of ZT1 animals even base game to base game, and in fact a lot of the base ZT1 species were included in paid expansion packs later. People still bought them because the game was different enough from its predecessor.

If they held back, say, the Bornean orangutan for a DLC rather than including it in the base game, would you really be mad? Or would you wait and see what it turns out like? Because the current orangutan - as just one example - is a pretty poor representation of the IRL animal (locomotion being the primary issue). What if they left out, for example, the Formosan bear, but included a sea lion in the base game? What trade off would you be willing to accept?

Every hypothetical refusal to buy a hypothetical game is kind of deluded, because it's always based on the supposition that "PZ2" will basically be "PZ1+", which is as fantastical an assumption as any other.

Can’t help it when the Earth is so full of animals.

On a similar note, this is gonna sound like a steamy hot take but the call for tassie, secretary bird, and walrus (the three I hear the most) is probably a result of a combination of nostalgia and echoing what a few content creators said (which could be explained with the first reason again).

Coatimundi, coypu, helmeted guineafowl, and mute swan are more “zoo basic” than those three.
