Woodlands/Temperate Dream and Nightmare Packs

Haven't seen one of these in a while, so let's do this! Reminder, just because you slate an animal for a dream or nightmare roster still allows for other people to feel completely different about it. Your picks are right for you. Someone else's picks are right for them. Let's all play nicely and not belittle someone's opinion of animals.

Since it seems fairly possible we're going to get a woodlands or temperate pack, going with that. Interest in both Islands and Highlands or Tundra dream and nightmare scenarios. This will likely be a scenery pack, so keep that in mind. You can note 3 more animals to go along with it as an animal pack though. Finally, I think at this point it may be best to keep WTE expectations grounded...as in...no exhibit birds

So....Woodlands Dream Pack - quite inspired by Old Country's video from a few days ago.
Tasmanian Devil
Northern Brown Kiwi
Wild Boar
Spectacled Bear
Alligator Snapping Turtle (E)

At this point I don't expect the wolverine for the woodlands pack so I'll save that for Highlands or Tundra. I'm okay with that. As for the Spectacled Bear, I think the ABB is more likely. While I'd rather have both, if I had just one it would be the Spectacled Bear. Maybe realistically though we get the ABB in the pack, and the Spectacled Bear as an Anniversary or Highlands animal.

Woodlands Nightmare scenario:
No Tasmanian Devil or Kiwi - having only one is passable but taking away both is quite painful.
Eastern Grey Squirrel - (I'm sorry if this offends but this is the most pointless animal they could possibly add)
White Tailed Deer (also sorry if this offends but this is the second most pointless animal they could possibly add)
Canadian Lynx (I feel we don't need a second lynx)
Eurasian Brown Bear (I know, I know....sorry).
Brown Recluse Spider (E) -eeeeek..They creep me out more than most spiders do.

Ok here's mine. Take into account I wnat the Kiwi but I'd prefer it in a different theme. This is also the one situation where I'd prefer less birds. I do want at least one though.

Sorry but if we are doing DREAM scenario then it doesn't matter if we think birds for WTE are realistic or not, is what some of us are dreaming about and so they are a valid choice for WTE... so:

Dream Scenario

1. Tasmanian devil
2. Mandarin duck
3. Greater rhea
4. Patagonian mara
5. Hummingbirds (WTE)

Extras: collared peccary, golden phesant and black footed ferret

Nightmare scenerio (nightmare is a bit extreme though there are just a few animals i would be extremely dissapointed about the rest would not be my personal picks but don't hate them)

NA centric pack
Animals i find boring, repetitive and i personally have no need for like EBB, Wisent, White tailed deer
Animals i don't hate but i think there are way better options like wild boar and american black bear
No bird at all (not even habitat)
FARM / DOMESTIC THEME

Just one of those things by their own are not a nightmare scenario but put several together and yeah i will not like that pack.

And TBH, if any of the "nightmare" animals made it into a slot for a scenery pack it might dampen the entire pack for me. Wouldn't stop me from purchasing, but boy oh boy, would it feel like lost potential.

• Echidna (they are cute and listed in the soundtrack)
• Mute Swan (pretty European rep)

• WE: 5 owls or eagles (both are needed)
• If animal pack:
  • Pine Marten (neat arboreal for Europe and a great mustelid assuming the wolverine is saved for a different pack)
  • Golden Takin (popular goat)
  • Wild Turkey (NA gets its first bird)

Realistic Dream (considering the wishlist):

• American Black Bear
• Tasmanian Devil
• Wild Boar
• Reeves's Muntjac
• Bald Eagle in WE
• If animal:
  • Echidna
  • Kiwi (popular bird)
  • Wisent or Golden Takin (a big ungulate could go with the small)

Plausible Nightmare:

• Tasmanian Devil (they scare me)
• Wild Boar (they scare me)
• Pere David's Deer (too similar to the red deer)
• Virginia Opossum (the roadkill jokes are getting old, and they're ugly to me. Other continents are in greater need of small mammals)
• Grey Squirrels in WE (No tree rats, please)
• If animal:
  • Any river otter (sea otter is king for now)
  • Grey kangaroo (not essential at the moment, but I might circle back to it later. Right now, there are more interesting options for marsupials)

4. Gray squirrel - I never knew this was an option. Now I hate it. I don't like squirrels in real-life anyways (they need up my yard)

I guess for most people they just fell under the same cathegory as domestics or urban animals. Uninteresting, another backyard type of animal. We don't have squirrels here and i only saw them in the parks when i visited London and thought they were funny and cute but i agree there are far more cool animals other than a squirrel to prioritize.

Makes sense. Red squirrels are pretty common where i am, not the most exciting inclusion but atleast something different. Plus my local zoo keeps both red and grays.
Would people be more welcoming of the indian giant squirrel?

Yeah, i was at london earlier this year and i vividly remember the one park near the palace, literal hundreds of squirrels and ducks, a couple geeses and swans and a single lone pelican for some reason, and all super friendly and not scared at all. Was a pretty cool expirience

Squirrels aren’t mundane animals to me at all, I’ve never even seen one IRL, zoo or otherwise. I’d welcome the Indian giant squirrel or even a red squirrel, the eastern grey squirrel just feels like the least interesting squirrel choice possible to me given it’s not much to look at, lacks any conservation value and is pretty rare in zoos (5 EAZA holdings, dunno the numbers in North America but I hardly imagine it’s a commonly kept animal there outside of rescues). At the same time, it’s the kind of out of nowhere pick that Frontier could make lol.

Squirrels have zero…if not negative appeal to me. They taunt my pups, and they get into the attics. During non-winter daytime I see them every time I’m walking the dogs, plotting to take over our yard one malicious chatter at a time.
