Frontier had disastrous financial results, and the quickest and easiest way to appease shareholders was to halt console development. That's it.In answer to the title; yes I would like it back on xbox.
I understand that legacy is still available and until very recently I still partook of legacy quite frequently. Its still the best space sim available on console (I count Starfield as RPG and not a simbut i still love it).
I play odyssey via GFN but it's not the same feeling I got on xbox so would prefer a native console version of odyssey.
I like to think that fdev did try their best to get it to work on console (evidence via a tweet by Dr Kay : Source: https://twitter.com/drkayross/status/1501985758076411909?t=irXjsB0FdVTUTqiL1I6bEw&s=19
)
I don't believe that a xbox version will emerge as that will take dev time away and it appears that dev time for EDO is at a premium at the moment.
I suspect you're correct, even considering the consequential loss of sales for their other titles from disgruntled console consumers. Future (possible) profit is someone else's problem when they could pay shareholders immediately.Frontier had disastrous financial results, and the quickest and easiest way to appease shareholders was to halt console development. That's it.
Just like you im speculating but i doubt that's the case, why miss out on the extra revenue if it could have easily been implemented?Frontier had disastrous financial results, and the quickest and easiest way to appease shareholders was to halt console development. That's it.
Cough cough Starfield cough Flight Simulator cough cough Space Engineers cough cough cough..Folks just need to face facts that consoles aint PCs.
I said it because that's what happened. It was a short-sighted, short-term fix.Just like you im speculating but i doubt that's the case, why miss out on the extra revenue if it could have easily been implemented?

All developed for console and not as in depth as EliteCough cough Starfield cough Flight Simulator cough cough Space Engineers cough cough cough..
Oi, I must be catching cold, or maybe it's allergies?
Oh you want depth (aka lots of planets):All developed for console and not as in depth as Elite![]()
It appears that it wasn't as easy as all that, if Dr Kay is correct and there was a determined effort to release on console, then a cost benefit decision would have to be made. It took time to achieve stability on the primary platform (PC), there were other IPs in the pipeline, shareholders wanting returns etc. Ceasing all dev work on the console platform to free up valuable resources would be, to me, very compelling. Thus I think Bongo could well be correct.Just like you im speculating but i doubt that's the case, why miss out on the extra revenue if it could have easily been implemented?
Don't know what to say about this, I don't think I understand the reason behind it.Folks just need to face facts that consoles aint PCs.
I think NMS has its own problems atmcough cough No Man's Sky cough cough
Unless a game is specfically designed for console ie using the controls etc, trying to do it later wont work.Don't know what to say about this, I don't think I understand the reason behind it.
I'm not sure what not being able to get the Cobra Engine to work well on consoles has to do with titles that don't use the Cobra engine. Now, if all those games used the Cobra engine, that'd be an interesting development. The Cobra engine barely works on PCs.Oh you want depth (aka lots of planets):
cough cough No Man's Sky cough cough
Unless you're talking about depth perception, the kind you get in VR, in which case I'll grant you the win (even though NMS supports VR on PS4).
ps - if consoles ain't PCs, why you in this thread? At least I like consoles.
That's a good point; I find Kerbal a tad awkward sometimes. However I must commend FDev on their controller mapping, certainly on xbox, that I have button combinations to spare on legacy. Even when I dabble into odyssey FDev have managed to design it so that I can add whatever I need just onto the basic controller, and after discovering that EDO supports the xbox chatpad I can add superfluous actions such as waving at strangers to that. Confession: chatpad doesn't work when streaming GFN into edge on xbox but does in the GFN app.Unless a game is specfically designed for console ie using the controls etc, trying to do it later wont work.
Look at other complicated games like Everqest, WOW, even Star Citizen, too many controls for a console to handle.

Ive never owned a console myself but ive watched a few mates play Elite on them. That's a good point; I find Kerbal a tad awkward sometimes. Of course this would of been designed for PC users that prefer controller input. Just a happy coincidence that it transfers to console rather well.
I've never played the other games you've mentioned so can't comment on their control scheme. I imagine that there's a multitude of key bindings.
