Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yes. Yes you did.

Interesting though.

Totally worth it just for those two wee trend 'confirmations' ;)

(The gossip of CIG's name being trash amongst experienced devs, and of them hot-housing green devs in response, sure seems to line up at any rate...)

Maybe they've come to realize Tony Zzzzz can't get anything actually done, but they can't fire him because he's Chris' buddy, so they just hire someone who maybe can go around Tony and get stuff done.

I don't rate the guy's chances. Tony has lost every co-worker he's ever had...

Every dev in this vid that he worked alongside has bailed now. To a man...

Best hope the new guy doesn't like cameras ;)

So whats the deal with this whole PTU thing? And those jump points? They look very pretty and i'd wanna go and visit them. Is it some kind of invite only thing?

Well atleast it doesn't seem boring then

Say whatever you like about Star Citizen, but it never fails to entertain. Whether it be the lies, the deceptive marketing, the development pratfalls, the incredible mismanagement of the project, the nepotism, the management taking millions of backers money to enrich themselves, and so much more, its kept us entertained now for over 10 years.

Which is funny, because Chris Roberts said "2 to 3 years, any longer and things would become stale", but its just another thing he was wrong about, just not in the way he might have expected.

Anyway, pull up a seat. If you do have genuine questions about Star Citizen and ignore the snark, we do have a few players here who will give you honest answers. Just expect the rest of us to throw some shade at the project as well.

Oh, and Little Ant, who is our current true believer, who will insist SC is the best thing since sliced bread and that the Best Damn Space Sim Ever is well under way and everything is going well.

It wasn't at first. Then it became a subscriber-only closed beta. Now it isn't, again. Next week might be different.
If you can select "PTU" in the launcher where it says "LIVE", then you're invited.

You can. Create a character in the PTU, buy a ship, fly to the jump point placeholders on the map. Everyone uses the open pads to get into the station. Don't go into the hangars, you might not get out again. The famous "now leaving Stanton" billboards are there. The gas clouds look pretty from some angles and glitchy from others.

If they will ever lead to other systems, we don't know, yet.

The PTU is the test universe, where the new versions come out first before going to live. Sometimes it is open for everyone, and sometimes limited. It is open for everyone at the moment. The version in the PTU has these jump point locations, but they don't allow jumps to other systems yet. I wouldn't expect that for a while. You can track what backers are saying about the PTU in the #sc-testing-chat channel on Spectrum.

The deal is CIG have their annual con coming up and need to hype people into buying more spaceships to keep the project afloat. So they put in some placeholder assets to make it seem like a second system might be coming soon.

Who knows, maybe they will finally add the second system to the game after all these years (they first hyped the second system coming soon circa 2015-2016), but we skeptics are assuming they will just follow their usual pattern. Show off a ship jumping, arriving in a new system, imply its all coming soon. And then after the con they will go radio silent on it until the new year. Then it will be "planning week" (which lasts a month normally), and after it they will announce a revamped roadmap and they will say nothing about adding new systems again until they need to sell more ships again.

Updating to PTU now, sounds good.

Gotcha, will keep that in mind, some of those first screenshots I saw looked quite glitchy with a big blue mass over them, the newer ones seem to be fixed though. (Maybe they patched it?)

Hah, had my suspicions. That opening post was super odd...

'CMDR Ingenue: Hi guys, I just started Star Citizen so I thought I'd make an account here... I'm a bit intimidated by reddit etc...'

Sigh, now we won't get all the pretty pictures...

Cheers for sparing us the troll routine mods :)

Yeah, i was a bit sus from that first post as well. I thought it might time for someone to be rotated out, like Mr. Nowak was eventually replaced.
