Yeah, CIG knows how to reel people in. Especially those that do not know better. Misrepresentation is basically their core competitive advantage. A company overseen by a real board and real independent shareholders could probably have tons of issues about CIG ethics stance though.

Having said that I recall Asmongold being quite salty about StarField, could this be him just trying to ram it in?

nah, i have played with several people who wanted to check out sc so i let them use an alt and showed them how to play.

pretty sure all of them were "holy crap this is amazing". at least at first impressions.

usually ends up with the warning of "dont go buying a bunch of ships". sometimes a successful warning, sometimes not.

He's just a very simple man and likes shiny things, and CIG's exceptionally good at shiny.

Re simple, I was running a Lost Ark guild back when his group rolled in. He P2Wed hard and got boosted by his followers to a build that I'm sure went way past $10k. Took 7 other whales and was going to show everyone how he could just crush the 8 man hard mode raids with his wallet. He spent hours and hours just getting completely humiliated by the content on stream as he's awful at video games. While he was doing this, we were clearing the raid with F2Ps, and others were clearing in PUGs. Lost Ark is an extreme P2W game and the group he had was probably doing 5 times the damage of a regular group and could tank hits that would one-shot most players.

I don't know why people look to him for opinions. He's a clown and doesn't really try to hide that.

Graphic API are not my domain but for what I understand, there is three ways to add Vulkan to a game made with Direct X.

The easy way is just adding a Vulkan translation of the DX output. I guess there is softwares you can buy dedicated to this task. It's a mandatory step if you want your software to run on Linux. It add a layer to your software so I guess it also add bugs and a slight gain loss in performance.

The hard way is to ditch DX and rewrite all the existing calls of the graphic API.

The really hard way (when you have an old DX) is like the last but you also want to use all new specific calls and technicities of modern graphic API (like ray tracing) so you have to heavily rewrite your software. That's what CIG is doing.

How would you know. Graphic api isnt your domain.

When you go to the circus, you expect much wow, very reality defying physics, and clowns to keep the pace up.

And noone can deny SC is the greatest Barnum circus never been done before, and yet.

I'm getting more of a 'lies to stakeholder' feel on this one.

Like Paul R enjoys getting to tinker with all this stuff. But he needs to make his case for progress and more years of play. So he dials up something that looks like tangible and exciting progress to Chris.

It just so happens that these 'executive summaries' work well on backers too ;). (See stuff like Tony Z's Quanta demos etc).

I'd imagine there's plenty of 'lies to stakeholders' going on across CIG departments. (It just all blends in nicely with the final PR efforts ;))

And I'm amazed how little you know about the game.
You just have to connect to SC during a freefly to see that it's really in-engine :sneaky:
Sidenote (because I guess you don't know it) : the first half of the video is about what's ingame, the other half for what CIG want to add next year.

So space whales and cows are in-game? I did not know that. And apparently neither did any of the streamers I was watching.

"The first half is dreams.txt - and so is the second" would be a better description

Edit: I don't think this is the reaction of someone who knows they're already in the game 🤷‍♀️

Reminds me of an Orson Welles movie called 'F for Fake' about Art Forgery - Welles promises at the start 'everything you see for the next hour is true' - and at the end of the film he comes back to say 'the film was longer than an hour ;) '

So I guess all the followers were pointing out that to Asmongold when he was saying 'we've already seen two alien species, so there are aliens in the game'? Or maybe not. Because Star Citizens.

Edit: Oh, and I just rewatched Chris's intro and outro to that video and and at no point does he talk about it being in 'two halves'. The most he talks about is how he wants to remind 'what we have in Star Citizen'. Let's hope you have something to back up your 'two halves' because at the moment you look like you are lying.

Ant just uses the old Russian troll cookbook of desinformation methods: Keep repeating lies and fakes. If they spot the lies they will just drown in fakes one day.

Ok, my bad. I haven't checked the timeline.
Already in-game from 0 to 7:30 min + 8:00 to 9:00 + 9:20 to 12:00 + 12:30 to 13:30.

The first half is the same as the second half - an in-ENGINE trailer. Neither are the game now.

Are you backers also quoting the parts when ppl ask if he will be pre-ordering SQ42 and he says 'No way - I'll buy it when it's out - if it's bad I can make money by reacting to that' :D

(he's impressed by the gfx ofc - but he's pretty doubtful about the space combat / foot combat / frame rate - though hopeful that they can improve it - he'll learn - eventually ;) )

We can add misrepresenting the truth by picking out select snippets and leaving the context out to the menu of disrespect being served today. I mean, it's what we deserve - I am king hater and have decreed so.
