Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Even I, a person who knows nothing about game development, understands that "in engine" does not even mean "real time". And there is A LOT one can do with that, that is not possible in the (mis)represented game.
You can do the same things you see in the video in the current alpha (from space to ground to space). It's real time.

The second and third options are the same. Keeping up with modern advancements is irrelevant because it applies to any API, and is only worse in StarCryLumberEngine's case because of how long it's been in development, how far the technology has moved in that time, and what a horrific mess it clearly is.
I don't undestand if you say that CIG sould/should not keeping up with Vulkan and if they are able/unable to do it (sorry I'm french).

I've just got to say that this is by far the most fun I've ever had with a computer game that has been nowhere near any of the 3.5 (damn you Covid!) PC builds I've done since it was announced. I may even consider putting my dislike of the Roberts "family" (like the Mafia has "family") and installing it once it is fully released with all the trappings promised, and gets good reviews. I can't see it though. This game is from the code whispering (searches for backspace on keyboard), "I am a PC game" maker ("Where's Dennis?"), physics programmer extraordinaire (who thought you can swim in space) utter tool.

Most of us here, I believe, will be pleased and happily pay for and play both SC and SQ404. Should they ever be fully released*, and be decent, playable and fun.

I'm probably in that other percentage who wouldn't, for several reasons.

1) As long as Crobblers owns CIG I refuse to give them any money. If he gets bought out, a la Freelancer, this would make a difference to me.

2) I'm pretty burned out on space games. Elite for many years, then NMS for a few months, X4 and Starfield i just couldn't get motivated to get into.

3) Online games i'm pretty jaundiced on now as well. Too many people online are just jerks, PvPers demanding the game become a PvP haven, even for games that are basically PvE, and constant "fixes" to balance things when from a PvE aspect at least there's nothing wrong. I've gone back to solo games only. Coop games remain fun for me though, as long as its with people i know. Getting older and these days i just want to chill when playing games, not be stressed out or have to compete. ED at least had modes, but SC won't have any way of ensuring you don't play with people whose whole goal is to mess up your day.

If SC had released way back in 2014, before i became a die-hard skeptic, i might have given it a go.

These days, i'm just enjoying the entertainment i get from watching its development and the blind faith of the hardcore backers.

Should SQ42/SC release, i will be interested in seeing the reviews.

Can't for the life of me find it but I'm sure someone told me SC wouldn't be cheap and gimicky 'beamz for all' like filthy other games....

What does he mean with magic beams? Heal beams in ED - that was magic beams.
