Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Do they even have a design document to work from? Even for art assets like ships are there specs that says a small ship has to be under so and so million polygons and textures under a certain size? Without that it'll be a perpetual cycle of refactoring and redesigning things to accomodate new brain fart of the week.
I'd say that they don't, because "perpetual cycle of refactoring and redesigning things" pretty much sums up the last 12 years of this game's development.

Made a public vid clarifying the meshing glitches a touch more:

Excellent work, Golgot. I'm a little annoyed I didn't notice this before you pointed it out. I guess I was half dozing during their live demo, it was so underwhelming.

My take... CIG aren't even close to the level of "server meshing" Dual Universe was doing 7 years ago, when DU demonstrated what they called "Dynamic Area Splitting":

Cheers M!

Yeah, definitely has 'early days' writ all over it...

(If CIG had used working 'NPCs' for the demo everyone would have immediately smelled a rat though ;))

Interesting tool capturing most of, if not all, the promises made for under 12 months in the Con:

Chris Roberts: "everything that we've been showing you here at citizen con, it is our intention, not making a 100% promise just so everyone remembers that, to get them into star citizen through next year."

Me, an idiot: "cool, maybe we will get some of the stuff in the next year"

You, a genious: "chris roberts promised all these things on the life of his childern"

Promises, estimates, palantir or blueglass witch´s ball... he is the one setting the expectations for his own work, the consequent hype and the funding that ensues. And so he shall be measured on them. And not just by us in this here thread. I, for one, foresee much laughter.

As for your semantics dilemma, well, you pick your poison 🤷‍♂️

I'm pretty sure the "document" is a wall filled with post it notes.

"and a lot of a lot of what you're going to see is going to be coming into Star Citizen over the next 12 months even a few little things will come into 3.22 at the end of this year but definitely next year a lot of what you'll be seeing will be coming in and it's going to make a dramatically different experience in Star Citizen uh so I'm I'm very very excited on that um"

Can't wait to see all that stuff we're definitely getting which will surely be a lot of what we saw, like last time, and the time before that, and..

Some Pyro feedback. On a new mission, and that super smooth LAN party feeling...

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-FMbj_m81A&t=8m13s

Right after I died there a dev came to me and asked how it went and how I liked the mission. He was super excited about it, yeah, but I was not sure what to say, cuz, the experience, the atmosphere, of playing in the new pyro was cool, but the shooter gameplay, it ultimately still does not feel like a game. It feels like a broken tech demo where I have to exploit its flaws. I asked him if this was online or a local server and he told me it was local and he pointed to it. It was like in the corner of the room 10 m from me. So if these are the ideal conditions, like, this is basically LAN conditions, it won't get any better. Then I'm kind of worried...
