New 2024 Livestream series!

For many days now I have been anxiously waiting for news regarding the game's development.

I would like to know @Paul_Crowther within the development of frontier is there space to listen to the community's ideas? specifically from the forum suggestions tab.

There are several ideas that have been repeated for years in the suggestions tab and that need to be heard, need to be considered or at least read by Frontier.

We want more interaction with game development.

Ah yes, we do. However, what do you expect? FDev acknowledging it and saying that they will communicate more in the future? They did so multiple times in the past, and now look where we are again. Quite obviously we are such a bunch of scoundrels that we are not exactly welcome in the streams, anyway. So why even bother?

Because people were mainly complaining about performance in supercruise...
While no context was given, making a blanket statement that elite only runs @15fps is less than helpful.

My older pc can not run engine 4.0 at ultra without crashing and i don't expect it to.

There is an option to contact support and ask for help as a customer.

I'm not sure, what kind of gears have people which "play at 15fps", tho.
Maybe a laptop with only internal Intel graphics - or a modern machine trying to run 8K Ultra?
Quite possibly ED is the only game they play and the PC was a couple of years old at launch and it performed OK then...

There was no "blanket statement" though, there was no statement at all. Schattenmacher picked up another user's (outdated) signature trying to make a point nobody was arguing about.

When Odyssey was released, about 15 FPS in ground CZs was definitely the truth for a lot of users. Trying to disprove that with a screenshot 17 patches later in super cruise where exactly nothing is going on is kinda disingenuous.

There were many odd behaviour issues when EDO released - it still doesn't compare with legacy in performance terms, but has improved sufficiently that my laptop (I7 & 1070 gpu) can now play in 1080 with good (not excellent) frame rates, where at release it was in low single figures.

Of course, if one has a PC / Laptop that was current on release of ED, then 15 FPS may still be a reality...

Personally I dont want FD to listen to us specifically.... after all we are a disjointed lot (to be expected) what i want - expansion on npc roles and not worrying about multiplayer only content is the opposite of what other people want.

FD have already outlined a pretty amazing game with lots of cool features yet to be implemented in their early Design Decision Forum along with David Braben interviews of where his vision of the game was planned to go....... FD knew what they wanted in Elite 10 years ago........ a lot of that is still not in and would make for brilliant updates to the game.

so imo FD should ignore us but actually attempt to go back to following THEIR plan that was made from the get go.

of course with layoffs and down turns and what not, at this point i will take any next expansion regardless of if it is one i would ideally choose. My view is Elite wont get any more major updates now but i really hope to be proven wrong (perhaps wednesday but i am not holding my breath)

at its core Elite is still the great game it was at launch but (imo) it could be so much more.

4GB AMD RX570 here. At 1080p and most settings at high to ultra (shadows and ambient occlusion at medium) I get solid 60 FPS in space, around 40 FPS at surface ports. Worst case is around 30 FPS in concourses. I also have Reshade setup that eats a few FPS. It's worth mentioning that I also got lower than 60 FPS on planet surfaces in Horizons—but I used to run at 1.25x render scale to reduce jaggies. Which, TBH, is a testament to how little demanding Horizons was on GPU compared to other titles at the time like DCS (30 FPS at medium settings on the Georgia map; single digits on the Marianas map) or Tomb Raider or any other AAA title from around 2019 when I bought that card.

A more modern budget 1080p GPU like RX6600 should have no problem getting solid 60 FPS in almost all cases at the same settings. And if one is on a seriously limited budget, a used 8GB 1070 or RX580 can be had for less than 100€ while providing adequate 1080p performance. There really is no excuse.

By Update 4 (less than 1 month after launch) i was getting something like this (June2021) 👇

IIRC you got a laptop similar to mine. I7-9750h, GTX1660TI, 16gb ram...
If so, you'll get like 30+ in heavier parts like Concourse, CZ and certain settlements (and more in other parts.) - that is on Ultra with Shadows on high and Blur off, 1080p ofc.

Ofc, people playing on GT1030 cards or CPU embedded gfx would struggle, but on a mid-range gaming laptop it was playable at launch. 🤷‍♂️

Same discussion happened when FDev released JWE2 - people that played ok-ish JWE found they struggled with JWE2 (or even couldn't run at all since it required a DX12 card)

Greetings fellow carbon based lifeforms!

As promised, here is an overview of the order of games being discussed in the stream tomorrow:

  • Intro
  • Planet Zoo: Console Edition
  • Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters: Console Edition
  • Elite Dangerous

I can't share exact timings because that would require insinuating that time is a linear constant and not an ever flowing river that reconstitutes itself to the whims of someone talking too long to explain something...Like this sentence.

Important things to note, there will be competitions and Twitch Drops as well as lots of juicy information so I would recommend tuning in for the whole thing so you can avoid missing out on anything shiny.

Stream starts at 18:00 UTC on www.twitch.tv/frontier so be sure to tune in!
