Update 18.02 | Wednesday 10th April

Why isn't this narrative??

I mean it's not like new technology ever fails....
Oh, I see. I guess that might make sense, but that just tilts it in the opposite direction. Patch notes would be a absolutely terrible place to play out a narrative.

I assume you're implying that this new feature won't be a new feature but a plot point in the narrative from having unintended consequences from use. I hope that's what you mean.

But I think this discussion proves my point well. We don't know what it's supposed to do, so we don't know if any observed behavior is due to a real bug, or a narrative-driven failure, or working as intended. No?

  • New Rating C Frame Shift Drive modules will be available. They can be found at a number of Outfitting services, especially in more technologically advanced markets, and these will introduce a new functionality: Super Cruise Overcharge.
C-rated is.. interesting. Lower overall jump range in exchange for better supercruise capability is definitely something I can see fitting to some of my missionrunners.

Yeah, I know FDev (or at least the Elite Dangerous part of FDev) does this all the time, in an attempt (I assume) to build hype, but I imagine there must be better ways to do that other than making the patch notes mysterious. Haha

Anyway, I didn't want this to get too ranty, sorry about that. I'm just as excited as anyone that the game is being actively updated.

I hope the new controller support doesn't blow out my current workaround (VJoy/Joystick Gremlin). I'd like to wait until the weekend to finally simplify that mess.

Piracy and evading (NPC) pirates was one of the first things that came to my mind when reading the phrase Supercruise Overcharge🙃

I'm sure PvP combat folks are also squeeling in joy and anticipation!
Point is C-rated is imho the very bad one in the module grade scale... offers same weight of A-rated, but approx -20% integrity and -30% jump range. As an example: a FSD 5A with increased range/mass manager on a base Krait gives 26T/94i 30.7LY where a FSD 5C gives 26T/75i 20.4LY... if the Super Cruise Overcharge is going to be useful for piracy, I'll very likely ship the module where I do need it with G2/G3 shielded mod...+DC/MM (14LY approx).

C-rated FSD + Increased Range G5 + Mass Manager makes it almost exactly a vanilla A-FSD with -53 integrity. 🙄

The leaderboard for anyone interested:
Hmm, if supercruise overcharge turns out to mean reduced time...
CMDRs have one more evening to top my Hutton run with a pre 18.02 timestamp :D

I reckon it'll be a boost button, maybe using ENG like normal flight boost does.
Probably some speed for escaping gravity, probably use during interdiction for a minigame advantage.
Actually would be REALLY good for interdicting a target because the FSDI "range" is defined in terms of time and based on present speed...

Notes are missing anything to do with fixing bugged Titan instances, hopefully next time ;)
