Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I don't have a single game i play using Vulkan. BG3 is the only one i have which explicitly provides me an option of using it and its worse and more buggy than using DX.

Anyone play a game using Vulkan?

Apparently there is a bug in the latest 3.23.1 patch where if you do anything in the store (buy/upgrade ship etc) - the $$$ store to be precise - the game locks your access and it's not possible to log in to play.

They have free fly event tomorrow. This is going to be great for the people that will get fooled and buy a starter package 🤣
Apparently that’s been insta fixed already. Figures.

Now all it needs is CIG applying the same sense of urgency to, say, physics and collision problems for example, or to exploration gameplay, in game economy, player controlled production nodes, alien races, base building, proper mission chains, givers and AI, 99 other systems and related locations, among many other things sold but still missing or broken after 13 years… Ah… Who am I kidding 😋

RDR2...and I think Days Gone had the option as well, apart from that, nowt...but most games have long since moved over to DX12 instead of using the outdated DX11. I occasionally have the odd graphical anomaly playing RDR2 with Vulkan, pixelated water effects and the same with trees or grass ...and to be honest, there's absolutely no gain in any way using Vulkan over DX12. The framerates are the same...everything. Vulkan is a step up from DX11 in the case of SC...but I'd suggest that it's not as graphically stable as DX12...strictly from my experience of course...odd water effects and graphical anomalies being the main things I've noticed if I have used it in any game that offers the choice 🤔

It is for multi-platform games, so they don't need to rely on the Proton DX/Vulkan translation helper. Implementing Vulkan instead of DX12 is not a bad choice and Chris didn't like a Microsoft-controlled interface, anyway.

Some waffling from 2015 when DX12 was supposed to come first.

Oh I know what Vulkan is for in that sense, but the idiot Roberts having issues with Microsoft is perhaps the main talking point right there...besides Roberts waffling on about SC being a PC master race game and decrying consoles as the root of all evil as his main sales pitch...or I would alternatively suggest it was Microsoft who had major issues with Roberts with him already having historically misappropriated $30m of Microsoft funding for Freelancer which he then used to fund the Wing Commander movie :)

Perhaps there's a theme there why DX12 wasn't considered for either his Magnum Opus or Star Citizen, besides making Sqn 404 viable (in the loosest of terms) for a possible console release through Vulkan support...although I can't ever see it appearing on an Xbox given the history between the idiot and Microsoft...maybe Sony will be daft enough to bite on it given that Bethesda/Microsoft cut them out of Starfield 🤔
