The Zoolympic Games

Thankyou!
Oh sorry I didn't use the template, when I try to open the link it says unavailable, how should I submit my entry? Thankyou Villanelle!🙏
😊
Thanks so much and no problem at all :) It should give you the option to open as a copy if you use any of these browsers:
  • Google Chrome
  • Safari
  • Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge

If you don't use any of those, then are you able to open the attached PDF, copy and paste the text into any word processor, add your details and screenshots and then reupload as PDF? This forum only allows a few formats for attachments hence the PDF step.

If that's all too much hassle then absolutely no problem at all, you can leave it as it is and I'll sort it out :)

Bravo Frogstrich! Looks lovely :) Great close ups of the animals, but would you like to add some wider view screenshots so that scorers can see the whole build?
Sure Here Are Some Wider Shots

The issue I am encountering is that I can't add a new page on the browser pdf for images, and I don't have a program to open the app on my computer, do you know how I can add a page? x
😊

Hey @Purple_Possum - hope you're having a good week :)

Here is the PDF version of your African Savannah entry that I will upload to the game folder for this round. I'm just sharing it here with you first in case you would like the opportunity to make changes. You have put so much effort into your beautiful build so I don't want it to be presented in a way that you are not 100% happy with, but copying and pasting the images you posted here has made them come out pretty small on the page. If you are able to find a way to access the template you will be able to format and present your build just how you like it.

I'm just thinking - you were able to access the google folder and scoring form for the last round, so it seems odd that you couldn't open the google doc template. Shall we try again? Does this link work at all? - template form

If that doesn't work, please could you try this link to my version of your document and see if you can open and edit it? I just gave it a try in Firefox and I think it should work

Hey Villanelle, thank you so much for all the help, the 1st link in your comment of the PDF version of my entry works,
the second link for the template form still doesn't work for me, I get a message saying "Sorry, unable to open the file at this time". It is very odd because I could get on the scoring form fine.
I will have a go at editing the link asap and get back to you, thank you again, so grateful!

And the third / last one in the message - does that work so you can edit it? No probs and thanks for your patience with this :) will be good to find a system that works for everyone as it will be more sustainable if my admin hours aren't too much each time :)

I just got back from my holiday and am very tired so hope nobody minds if I extend this round by 1 more day? I will send out the entries and score chart tomorrow 💚
Feel free to submit something by 12pm tomorrow UK time if you are nearly there

I'm sure people will not mind the extension rofl

Rest up

I personally decided not to add any more animals into the mix for my one. The poor zoo keepers are struggling as it is - there's usually at least 4 animals starving to death and have to be sent to the quarantine for an emergency meal - a vast improvement on the 30 I had before I made some changes to food/toy placement. I might end up resizing the habitat to make things easier, if I keep losing money - but trying to avoid massive changes to it.

Well looks like I will have to start a new zoo again rofl.
Down to -20k money, and the gharials are taking way too long to age up to bring me back into the plus numbers often enough to cover emergencies. And throw in that I am down to 2k credits I need the money to buy any animals I can't acquire from my other zoos.
I think I will have to try and remember the quality over quantity scenario. I usually create the largest habitat to cover maximum adults without issues.
If I can build up a replacement habitat in time I may submit it instead - but with 8 hours to go and I haven't slept yet rofl - I doubt it somewhat - so the one already submitted is there instead.
As I thought I didn't manage to do the habitat rebuild in the new zoo yet, so the original submission stands.

Oh dear! When playing Franchise I always start by running a zoo just with a load of exhibits first to raise a tonne of cash (~1 million) so I have some buffer while things are developing and in case I need to make adjustments when I'm unprofitable.

I'll put together the submissions now :)

Yeah, although I have never made 1 million from exhibits ( but then my zoos are different - some zoos don't have any exhibits for their letters so had to find an alternative money source), this zoo however did have those exhibits for the first challenge and tons of information sales ( which are usually my money makers alongside a small cheap animal habitat near the entrance to get the guests in) - things went down hill after the latest habitat was added, due to it's enormous size - which was calculated based on the long term plans of more animals being added, but the game clearly can't cope with it. I was expecting issues, but was hoping the gharial sales would offset the periodic losses due to food and staff costs and complaints. The new one will be small enough to handle the number of animals the limited staff can feed in a feeding cycle.
The new Gharial Riverview habitat is literally a river working it's way away from the entrance .. although I just realised, the first challenge was an exhibit building ( totally forgot it wasn't the gharials ) .. so will revisit my old version and work something in place near the gharials so it roughly fits the original idea. While I wait for the money makers to build up the cash flow again, I'll replan my african habitat to work as a smaller one to house my smaller herd of animals, again, fitting as closely to my original idea as possible ( apart from the initial size/animal plan rofl )

Vote for the theme for Round 3!

Thanks for all the brilliant competition theme suggestions so many of you have posted here!

I have collected them all in a big ol' sheet - here's the link

I've had a think about how we can vote on themes now that there are so many of them! I think this is quite a good solution - please read and let me know if you like this way of doing things!

I've created a google sheet of all of your suggestions (as linked above).

I've grouped the themes into three categories: building or species focused, and wild cards for the more outlandish/creative themes!

You can see all the options and mark as many of your favourites as you want on the sheet. Mark them with your username initial, e.g. I am 'V':

How this works:
  • Whichever has the most favourites will be the build for the next round
  • In case of a tie, I'll be the tiebreaker but the other option will the theme for the next round
  • You can have as many favourites as you want
  • You can change your favourites at any time
  • When a theme has been used this will be recorded so we don't repeat themes
  • The sheet is editable to everyone so you can add more ideas to each category whenever you want

Tip: when marking your favourites, type your initial into the formal cell bar at the top of the sheet, otherwise it will write over any initials already in the cell:

I'll keep back-ups in case of any issues :)

I'll reply over in Sidechat so we don't take up this thread :)
