Is there anything you have been dying to build, but you just can’t?

I thought this could be another fun discussion, and I didn’t want this in the speculation thread/ thought it wouldn’t have to be in the side chat either.

As the title said, is there anything you have been dying to build for, but at the moment you can’t build it? This can be due to anything, but namely missing props and pieces, lack of certain animals, or maybe just from a lack of vision?

I will go first!

If any of you have been to the North Carolina Zoo, I would love to make something close to their Rocky Coast! I have a grey seal, I have a polar bear, but there is one problem. I don’t have a puffin or sea bird to use in its spot! I need either Atlantic puffins, tufted puffins, common eiders, or a king eider. But as of right now Planet Zoo doesn’t have any not-penguin sea birds. So without using mods (which I am waiting for support to end) I’m just out of luck. Maybe if I’m lucky the next dlc could help, but I really doubt it at this point. Oh well.

This is a picture of the puffin habitat, let me tell ya it is awesome in person and may have been my favorite place in the zoo!

Anything with a rhea.

Ok i'll elaborate. I have three mixed enclosures that needs the rhea (essential to two of them): a patagonian steppe (which is empty vuz also no mara nor guanaco) and a huuuge pampas paddock (again with just an Anteater and armadillo because no rhea, mara, deer or waterfowl). And a Wetlands mixed species habitat that is pretty full with tapir, capybara and peccary (although it needs to be moved to another enclosures) and is not essential for it but could fit. The problem with that last enclosures is the absolute lack of waterfowl.

Yeah, I love mixed species habitats which is why the Rhea is growing on me quick.

But I’ll say the lack of waterfowl is also hurting me. I’m gonna make another post in this thread about the lack of waterfowl later today at some point.

Its not really due to lack of animals or pieces but i want to build a zoo set on the north sea coast of germany, inspired by the bremerhaven zoo.
For anyone not familiar its a zoo directly at the sea. And with directly i mean it, alot of the enclosure have a direct view onto the sea.

Ofcourse there are some animals and piece i would like to have in game for this, but the main problem im facing is the lack of a fitting map.
We have some maps with water on one side, but to my knowledge you can not build onto the water at all which kinda is a dealbreaker for this type of project.
There is ofcourse the diorama tool with which you can do islands, but the buildable area is way smaller than with the standard maps. And while i dont intend to make this zoo massive, i do want to make it bigger than the inspiration, which is absolutey tiny and smaller than some single habitats in other zoos. I also would like to build up the surrounding area similar to what you can see in the picture with docks, beaches, piers, ships and the like, aswell as have enough water around it actually look like its directly at the sea, all of which isnt really possible with the diorama tool.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to extend the surface area initially proposed by the diorama mode. I did it for one of my projects (I wanted to create a zoo that floats in the air, so what could be better than diorama mode) and I noticed that it's possible to have a map as big as the clasical maps (1000x1000m).

Wait really?!
When i tryed i could get to like a quarter ther size id estimate

A tropical dome like Zoo Parc Beauval has, the animals just aren’t there, I need some birds like the spoonbill and crowned pigeon and some more monkeys like tamarins or squirrel monkey and that’s at a minimum I’d like more

Yh I also want waterfowl, my local zoo has a giant mixed waterfowl pond with roughly 12 species, so I really need at least 1 temperate duck like the mandarin to make something similar

Buildings, in general. I see these amazing creations on YouTube videos and just can’t fathom the skills required to pull them off. This community has some truly talented individuals.
Yeah I came to this game for all the animals, now most of the time I spend on it is trying to work on my architecture! I’m trying to get in the veterinary field! I don’t even care about building design!

Yet I have frequently gotten upset because I can’t figure out how to make a building look good! I’ll say it comes with practice though! My buildings look better now, and I usually look to real world stuff when I can!

100% same to everything you just said. The best success I’ve had has been recreating existing buildings, and oddly, round buildings after learning the mud pillar technique, but even then they pale in comparison. It’s time to start practicing more. lol.

What’s the mud pillar technique?

Walkthrough aviarys/tropical houses.
I know i know blabla flying birds to hard blabla but even just wetland birds would make this something actually fun to build for!
Id like to refer to the holy trinitiy, scarlet ibis, roseate spoonbill and white faced whistling duck. Those 3 are not just all 10/10 animals in their own right but also go so so well together and would satisfy me completly but first we would actually need them and with frontiers track record?
I might as well hope for an actual mirracle before those 3 all made their way into the game offically

I always had an interest in building one of COTW reserves on PZ, especially Vurhonga and Yukon as they are my favorites (and also one of the few which 6 animals exist in both games). But there's multiple limitations such as vegetation, the amount of details that the maps have, backgrounds and PZ map size that make the whole thing very hard, if not straight up impossible.

Also something similar to the animalia forest, where there's macaws flying above your head, agoutis passing by and Tapirs, giant otters and scarlet ibis in closed habitats, with something like that being impossible by multiple reasons.

All hail the holy trinity!

Arabian Nights Nocturnal Building, was an idea for Eastborro but I scrapped it cuz it was looking horrible and I thought of doing it again for the contest but ultimately decided not too. Also I’m having a lot of trouble building an indoor and outdoor Eurasian Lynx habitat (as a stand-in for a Bobcat) so if anyone has any tips feel free to share, I’d appreciate it!

Maybe it depends on the location you choose for your zoo, even in diorama mode. I nearly exclusively play in sand mode and I know that when you choose to build a zoo in the temperate zone in Oceania for example, the area available is much smaller than a 1000x1000 map.
I remember when I tested the diorama mode, it took me quite a lot of time to extend the surface and reach the limit of the map but once I did it I calculated the length of 2 sides and it was indeed 1000x1000. I hope it will help you for your projects ;)
