She's a beauty! (New ship revealed--Mandalay)

4th ship this year is a Saud Kruger medium, I'm pretty certain about that. What we get next year ? No idea.
What I don't like is that all new ships are medium size - most prevalent size category.
I'd love to have small ship - there is no ship in range of 51-124 tonnes of mass hull!

Because feds have a medium ship ?? And they smell ... Badly
So it would have to be a Imperial ship since fdev completely knackered the naming conventions and ship size . ( Naval terms a cutter was a smaller ship than the clipper) And then made a med ship too big for a medium landing pad ??? I mean seriously ? it's like meh that will do ....awww poop it doesn't fit 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
But you are correct if they put it behind a rank wall then all hell would break loose.
Yeah it bugs me no end about the Clipper. They had one job (I even said this in the kickstarter chat) get the Imperial Courier right, and they made a pink panther car and called it the Courier.

Then made the true Imperial Courier and called it the Clipper and the wings don't retract????????? And it doesn't fit a medium pad? It looks tiny on a large pad, but I am guessing it's because the wings are just a smidge too big, could you not have moved the resize slider down a smidge?

So we have the Imperial Eagle and Imperial Courier, both small pad ships and the Imperial Clipper and Imperial Cutter both large pad ships.

As they are doing variants, I can hold out hope for an Imperial Clipper mkII that fits a medium pad because the wings retract, but knowing my luck, Frontier won't do it.

In a non-competitive game with no winning, it really isn't pay to win. There is zero pressure to buy and you can complete everything in the game within just having bought the game without the extra ships. But it is a nice way for some of us to support the game.

Some playes are pretty sure that Elite is classical MMO games about PvP in space, and this is core activity.

The more I think of it, the more I am convinced this is the most plausible conclusion.

And it could be called Narwhal, or Porpoise. 🤔

I mentioned M-pad Narhwal exploration/passenger ship, but now I don't think so it will be the last one in this year, because Frontier needs a hype at the end of the year. But maybe it is more like financial year and we will se Kruger next and BIG ship in the beginning of the 2025.

ahhh ok yeah i just researched the topic a bit more on the interwebs and now i understand.

Additionally, there are some that paid for the Cobra 4 and cannot access it, because they backed the game on the wrong platform. Also the Playstation CMDRs got screwed out of the Cobra 4 entirely.

The only people left FD haven't irritated with the Cobra 4 are the ones glad other people don't have it.

Last time I did that it cost me all my shields and 60% hull....
If that mountain hadn't jumped out on me at full boost everything would have been dandy...
I've been practicing this a bit with the Clipper now. Of course, I stay the heck away from that boost key and it requires self-control to measure every step carefully. I move the camera right under the nose and somewhat angled down but not vertical, just enough so that I can still see ahead where I'm going as well. It needs constant correcting with vertical thrust, but this way I'm not restricted to it for propulsion. Been practising going down and up through craters and found it not very difficult. It's pointless to even try in mountains so dense that I couldn't land there anyway. Still need more time to get good at it but it feels viable. Very curious to see whether Mandy really has that small footprint as it seems from the pictures, then this method can be expanded into more landscapes. Though still tempted to take out a Keelback next and see if I can do without the gymnastics...

About Mandalay footprint.
I used the screen of new ship, and checked the dimmension using mamba, because of the same canopy.
Then I tried three things:

DBX dimensions
Vulture dimensions
S-pad dimensions.

It definitely look like the legs can fit into S pad and footprint is like between vulture and DBX.

If it's true, designer did a really good job, but IIRC that guy who are resposible for Mandy's project is explorer :D
(what is pretty interesting if we are talking about canopy, but maybe it is because mamba lite was predesigned some time ago, and this is just compromise, or... at least that one weak point what have almost every ship in the game to exclude meta-builds).

But there is one thing more.
When you are landing, the game calculate not whoe footrpint, but every landing gear itself, so, the big space under the ship definitely helps. I suppose that it is pretty possible that landing with this ship will be even easier than DBX, becasue DBX land almost on it's "belly"

I guess I'm an exception.. I don't have the Cobra mkIV but I really don't care if others have it or not. So I can't say that I'm annoyed by the issue in any way.. :)

Help! I'm stranded in an alternate reality where ppl get mad about pregnant birds with dorky names and demand the Cobra IV on top of it 🙀

Ok, the latter is a common pattern. Having the Cobra IV, I wonder what the fuss is all about. It's a mediocre entry-level ship way inferior to the Cobra III and you won't miss anything. Except it has an interesting metallic paint. I used mine for memorial purposes exclusively and have no plans to use it for anything else. YMMV.

O7,
🙃

Wish I could get a MK IV, love my Cobra III but wish I could shuffle a slot around, maybe put a 5a SCO FSD in it. ;)
