No Single Player Offline Mode then? [Part 2]

Agreed. I got the news 15 minutes before my account got deleted that DB was looking into refunds again. I decided to look stupid and give them a second chance.

I'm finding myself in the surreal position now that my ticket has been reopened "under investigation", that if they are genuine about refunding to people who backed purely for offline.

They can keep the money and I'll withdraw the refund request.

Certainly, for me it was never about damaging the company, or the people who work there. It was about broken promises and not throwing fellow gamers under the bus. The same gamers I've enjoyed supporting/debating/disagreeing with over the last couple of years.

As to deleting the account - possibly that is still under consideration.

Playing in open. Not a hope in hell.

You simply HAVE to be kidding.

Steam have offline play . . .

I log onto the steam server online, then switch to offline mode . . .

Then I play the game ENTIRELY offline . . .

NO NEED FOR A CONSTANT ONLINE CONNECTION

THAT IS OFFLINE
What you have described is a game delivery platform running offline. Not a game running offline. With Steam running offline would that enable you to play The Secret World MMO offline? Of course it wouldn't.

I accept that he badly misjudged his wording but seems to think it's ok to hit on FD for doing the same thing. He needs to accept mistakes happen and so do you.
We are all human.
there was nothing malicious in this at all.
It's pretty pathetic.
World won't end if you walk away now either and neither will the game.
Some have offered to refund you I'll contribute as well.
Happy?

Actually no my wording was perfectly fine SOLO mode has been in beta and it was made out to all that this mode was offline. plus the fact that there are hundreds of comments from representatives plus David Braben promising all along until last week that there would definitely be an offline version.

My attempts with a petition is to help strengthen the view of those of us who feel strongly about this to David Braben and FD. Hence what a petition is for.

Also my posts are merly reflecting my believes and opinion, what right do you have to attack them?

Im not attacking FD just pointing out that they have made some serious mistakes and caused alot of problems FACT!

I paid for a product that was both online and offline, i love playing Elite and am looking forward to playing after release however i feel some what ripped off by FD and DB for pulling effectively half the game from under those that have supported its development.

I do have 1 thing to thank you for though DraigUK, seeing as your of 'Dangerous' ranking on this forum its clear you have annoyed many others whom are voicing there opinion, therefore i have decided this is my last post on this forum as its clearly plagued!

why keep putting FD down? I'm being as pedantic as you are.
DB has already said they will look into the possibility of offline after release, with no promises.
Your petition is as pointless and as futile as your own misjudgment of you're own words.
You want me to let it go, so show the same consideration towards FD.

If we drop it now, and stop, FD will see that we have stopped asking for the offline, and stopped complaining. They may consider that as to us moving on. But if we're still upset, and still want to show that we still desire the offline mode, then we should certainly keep posting. I'm not being inconsiderate toward FD, I'm just continuing to request this feature and want them to see how important it is to me. Unless you are actually opposed to there being an offline game feature though, I don't really understand why you are on this forum.

And name any mmo on steam you can play in offline mode. The answer is none. And none of those games touts a single player mode unless it's filled with bots, bots that simulate other human players.
Single player games are made to be offline.

Then stop pretending that solo mode is offline IT ISN'T - no purely MMO can be.

Cloud gaming is nothing new. It's a fancy name for a client-server based application.
Look i know you're basically pulling at straws trying to make a point. Multiplayer games require online connections to allow for multiple players.
Single player games do not.

The point was/is that offline is not a synonym for single player anymore

Cloud based gaming is almost exactly what Elite is going to be - I was just using flash games as an easy to comprehend online argument but your pushing of the point made me wrack my brain for a moment and come up with a more valid example since it's the offloading of heavyduty information processing onto the server that's the key here, so thanks for that :)

I have definitely played Steam games offline, in the middle of the ocean for weeks at a time while working on my ship. Sadly, I won't be able to do the same with ED. :(

You fan boys are just hilarious, FD promised - to a few - a dual mode playing experience - they delivered and ENTIRELY single mode MMO.

Stop pretending that FD have done anything than abandoned those pledgers that pledged purely because of offline capability.

Ok so, what are examples of single player games that require an online connection? Please give me something to debunk.
Using this game as an example is a moot.

Then you wouldn't be required to use a username & password. The server should freely send data to any client requesting it just like a web browser. Auth is a control mechanism, pure and simple.

That's great. And about 30s later someone would exploit it to write a custom client that would get them millions in game and the best ship/status etc (or lose another player millions).

There NEEDS to be some sort of authentication with online servers as that is the only way to ensure that the client is the actual user it claims to be representing.

That it also means only registered (and paid) users can play is of course a bonus for FD but it is also a bonus for those that have internet access (and I do understand the angst of those who don't or are away from it for months at a time). I can for example install on any PC, sign in, play from where I left off, sign off and my progress is all saved.

So uhh, do you realize that i fully agree with you and am saying that FD lied when they promised a single player/offline mode for this game right? and that i requested a refund because of the promises not kept?
I'm saying that the solo mode that requires an online connection to play is not as promised. The solo mode is completely pointless to have if not offline.

This is exactly what they did! (sad but true)

I play a HEAVILY modified Skyrim offline with steam offline myself, it's a true offline experience and in no way compares to the faux offline these fan boys are trying to pretend is offline mode.

I have done that few times myself Hypergreathhing. I think Jonbe54 is doing some unsuccessful speed reading! ;)
