Another plea do finally do something about the unstable Multiplayer Situation.

I'm really glad Elite wasn't given up on. I am Glad it regularly gets new Ships now (Even if they are handled in the same manner as in the other Space Game).
Yet one of my biggest issue and probably others too, is that Physical Multicrew is still a mess.

My Wife wants to play Elite with me but she does not want to fly herself. We basically want to operate in one Ship which is simply not possible.
Be it 50 Seconds or 5 Minutes, at some Point she gets a Error that kicks her out of my Ship. Always while in Supercruise or during a System jump. Telepresence works fine but you can not explore together or Scan Plantlife together in Telepresence since Telepresence does not allow you to get out of the Ship. I also can not do any ground Missions with her cause she usually gets a error just while supercrusing.

We tried like what feels like 500 Guides on port forwarding that did not work, we tried to a point where we bought new routers.
This is the sole Reason we still play the "other Space Game". It may be way more buggy but at least she can physically stay in my Ship without getting kicked.

Thanks for reading and considering.
Have a pleasant day.

I would say that your wife needs to learn to fly to get full enjoyment, so it might be worth getting her to use things like supercruise assist and auto dock so she has less to do. If she aims for a big bulky shield tank in PvE she won't have to be as skilful flying herself.

Multicrew is a bit hit and miss but turreted weapons can be fun for PvE stuff.

I'm pretty sure someone in multicrew is able to drive an SRV around but its been so long since I tried any multi crew stuff.

In terms of exploring etc could you save up for a fleet carrier and just carry her long distance in her own ship, of course this would require a lot of time in game to earn the credits.

Yeah...
I mean, I mostly play Elite like a single player game, but I don't really get why making this game an online game at all if they don't implement proper tools for communication and community building (like membership in more than one Squadron and a functional chat not taking focus away from ship controls.)

Multiplayer connections are unstable since always, and I get that this might be a hard nut to crack, but an online game with issues like that should get that fixed no matter what...
Exploring together in one ship is such a lovely usecase of physical multicrew and pretty much what I would also like to do. The systems are there, but the functionality isn't, and that's pretty sad.
I also bet, when kicked out of a ship it's back to the last player position? Insta teleport back to the Bubble?
Just... Why?

To be perfectly honest, if I have to cope with the broken kickstarter promise of Elite not having an offline mode, the least I can expect is a functional multilayer connection. Funny enough the connection seems to be good enough for ganking... Yay?

Now this may sound stupid.
But me and the wife have our own broadband connections/routers. I'm on BT she's on sky.
And I can confirm we have no issues wotsoever in multicrew or telepresence.
Smug yes. But it works 💪

Oh dear. 500x with port fwding; ouch! This implies same-household IPv4 on LAN btw? What happens when you both use IPv6 direct out of curiosity?
IPv6 if possible indeed.
A bit off topic and not quite (pertains to some p2p games under windows):

I'd maybe look up a guide "how to play games with p2p on the same network" or somesuch.

Otherwise a solution is using seperate networks as per above.

Hope you get it sorted OP.

cheers

We actually tried it with seperate connections as some suggested and while in TELEPRESENCE it does work with no problems. PHYSICAL Multicrew is the issue. As long as Physical Multicrew is as unstable as it is, we can't Play elite together. We really want to but Elite just doesn't really support it.

My wife and i wanted to go Exploring for a long time now but you can't leave the Ship or even deploy a SRV while in Telepresence so she couldn't really go explore with me in Telepresence. Now with the Mandalai coming, i hoped something would be done but i guess we have to stick to the other Space game :(

Not sure why your having issues with physical multicrew. But l can confirm that with 2 separate isps we don't have any issues. Yes sometimes it disconnects or lag etc but overall it does work. Having said that I do think fdev need a pass over multicrewing as a matter of urgency. As pointed out its far from perfect.
So I'd agree with Op
We do need something done.

The most important implementation (imo), is being able to spawn back at the ship you were disconnected from, because that is the main problem.
(online games have disconnects so is par for the course, not being able to respawn not so much. Respawn is only needed for physical MC)

Edit: maybe an issue tracker report could help; it would need concise wording of course. E.g. "Physical multicrew disconnect leaves passengers stranded too far away."

Yep, no one expects a perfect connection. It's impossible. But the game failing to put players that are trying to play together back in a more or less convenient fashion is an incredible omission. To me that's way more important than another iteration of powerplay, and I don't even mp. That has just got to be a higher priority for a game that claims to be an mmo than another half donkeyed game mechanic.

The day they remove Elite's online, Elite would have no point in existing.

That might be true for you, but it's not for me.
That said, it has been developed and nurtured as an online game for 10 years, so by now it's very much an online game.
But yeah, I'm not very interested in multiplayer stuff and would love to have multiple saves and basically play the game the way I played Frontier Elite 2 and First Encounters.
It is what it is though.

But well, it would help, if connections would at least be stable.

Exactly this. For logging out after a session, we could just land on a planet and disembark since on planets you stay where you logged out but Disconnects throw you back to the last station you were and thus physical multicrew Exploration Trips are impossible.

I don't understand what the problem is, on the one hand there are many single player games in the space where you can do that, and on the other hand, in Elite you have the option to play alone without anyone bothering you if you don't want.

Rent VPS close to your location, for example I have one with 8 ms ping to, 12 eur/3 months. Install there openVpn. Connect 1 PC through VPN, other use direct connection. It should solve the problems, because VPN PC will have that remote IP.
