General / Off-Topic :D I’m so sick of the daily grind so I quit

Ah, when I think about it, I have to work another 10 years until I am officially allowed to retire... But anyway, I will have a stop at your planet and have a good beer too :)

Hang in there Bevz - Think about the good you're doing rather than the crap you're getting! (And put as much spare cash as you can into the pension - It's the only perk you get :D)

Yeah, i'm 10 years in; it's not so bad when you're allowed to just get on with your job, but that's less and less often these days.... Oh well, like you said, a decent pension and i'll be doing my best to fight the cause of patients for as long as i'm still here!!

NHS comes top in world healthcare survey 2014. that is a down to people like you Bevz..keep the faith

Well done Mr OP - 30 years in the NHS -cap off. <moderator_political_comment_warning> Like every true Brit, I love the idea of the NHS, hate what politicians are/have doing to it </moderator_political_comment_warning>

However retiring at the point of lauch of Elite Dangerous - well, far to jeallous for words quite frankly.

Really gook luck metting your first set of objectives in the game. Really good luck enjoying your retirement - you earnt it.

To be honest it's the people that keep you there... So many good ones have gone lately which is worrying but there are still a huge number of really decent people around who care passionately about what they're doing. The people working in the NHS (particularly the front line staff) as it's greatest asset and the thing that will eventually save it if they are allowed to!

Anyway, i believe servers are down and 3.9 in on it's way soon.... yay! :)

Im one of the jammy ones that retired at 60 after 35 years in the civil service so got a pretty good pension and only work a couple of days a week in social care with a couple of lovely guys which enables me to do the things i want like ride bike, swim, cinema etc. missus teaches and has also recemtly retired at 60 and de retired on a short term contract with full pension and earnings ... So plenty of time to play ED and also get out and ride my bike...life is sweet

my job. I’ve worked for the NHS for well over 30 freakin’ years and I’ve had enough, so I took early retirement.

I used to be a scientist, helping patients and diagnosing disease – but now I’m just a paper shuffling desk jockey. I thought one day… what would I rather be doing?
Answer – I wanna fly a spaceship - and now I have the chance! (I put that on my “reasons for leaving form” that the NHS give you when you want to escape).

So I handed my notice in a while back and I’m now retired and very happy. I have all the time in the world now to play as much Elite as I can get away with. I’m going to find a planet 5 000 light years away from Sol, with a nice climate and a beach, open a bar and just chill with explorers who are out this way.

Ps. There is no real point to this thread, passing the time to the download and I just had a bottle of wine and I like to gloat :D:D:D

Enjoy your retirement , and safe flying Commander

Cheers Cmdr's

Thanks Simon (And everyone else here who has wished me well)

I am not going to say that the release of Elite Dangerous has in any way influenced my retirement decision...

But I could be lying...

:D Marak

Congrats, bro!! I still got 22 yrs to go on the job market before retirement. Of course, by then, I'll be playing Elite in a total virtual reality environment with visuals and audio, that will make today seem like 1984.

Congrats on your retirement from the beloved NHS (my wife works for them....) - may your days be as busy as you wish them to be!! :D

I spent nearly six years in BT, left in May on a voluntary downsizing deal.

After 25 years in a technology career I had got into a rut spending my time as a line manager on pointless bureaucracy and performance management (BTs own very special brand of hell).

I've now gone back to Solution Consulting for an agile, fast growing software company (a job I love)

I see my kids just as much as I did before and I'm less stressed

In my spare time I fly spaceships

it's been a pretty good year so far and on the 16th Dec it'll be even better !

will buy you a beer if I see you around the galaxy Marak

Fifteen years for me to go, at least..... All you retired workers, employees, and any other proffesionals, enjoy your retirements, you earned it truley!
For everyone, in any country, servicing in Health and care for the sick, old and weak, you have my outmost respect.

Thank you all!

Space Cowboy here - to the OP all the best on your retirement. Never forgotten the fun when my second child was born. Arrived on the ward and within seconds my wife's waters broke. It was the nurses party so I had to find a medic and then with my wife in a wheel chair we literally ran down the corridors to the delivery suite. You see it on the TV enough but don't expect it to be you.10 minutes later the baby was out and yelling.

I trust you will be organising treatment rooms and medical staff for us banged up space pilots somewhere in deep space.

Have fun commander - meanwhile I have fifteen years hard labour ahead

Welcome to the club, Marak.;)

I took early retirement from making airplanes, turned my paperwork in as soon as I hit 55.

Now I do whatever I want, when I want...it's like being a kid again, only with money.:D

Hmm... beach bar and recouperation centre.... sounds like a buisness plan... I could have to source some nurses from Eroticon 6 but I may be able to wing it!

I'll see what DB has to offer when we get planetary landings and I'll get back to you :D

Thanks NotFragile...

If there's one profession more regulated than the NHS it's the aircraft industry...

I don't know how you made it to 55! :D:D

The NHS sounds a lot like the Swedish healthcare system: it's really great, if you can get an appointment with a doctor before you die. I don't know what it's like now, but a few years back you could be made to wait up to two years to get your cancer diagnosis confirmed or denied. So of course no politicians ever used public healthcare, not even the ones who want to make private health care illegal. :D

Glad you're enjoying your life now!

Any chance you could get some Leather Goddesses from Phobos while you're at it?
