Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

It's been a long time I've not payed attention to this dumpster fire. It's still burning as it seems. Watched the SQ42 demo and wow, 12 years of development to make a on-rails turret shooter. The 90's want their gameplay back. Looks like CRoberts is stuck in that timeline and still thinks of games as CD-ROM "interactive" things with FMV, remember that time ? Yeah it was bad. Still is today.
Not thrilled.
I'll be back when there's something remotely playable, which seems not to be the case at the moment.

Day 2, surprisingly spectrum does not seem overly impressed:

This surprised me - I was expecting Pyro to be another 'Playtest' situation where it appears and then vanishes for another year. But Chris is saying it will go to Live. If it goes live with the current config that is nearly doubling their server costs...

Yeah that was always the 2023/2024 plan. (Ignoring the intervening plan where they thought they could launch Pyro as a stand-alone login ;)).

4.0 as the big meshy Pyro road-to-revelation.

And yeah, will be interesting to see where they end up on the cost-vs-performance seesaw. (I'd imagine the 4:250 pre-citcon evo would be too pricey for standard PU)

Just used this thread to catch up on the 'Con, because there's no way I'm watching it myself, and I'm looking forward to 2026 when the narrative is going to be, "Chris Roberts is a perfectionist, he wasn't happy with what they showed at CitizenCon '24 and he decided they needed to start over. Again. So really it's only been development since late 2024."

I know I bang on about student hires a lot, but this Game Assembly guy from Aug 2023 was charged with the sandworm AI...

I'm guessing that big ole McGuffin isn't exactly a top priority...

Well, I am of the quite opposite. I would rather have a development company the ability to try a project, scrap it and make something new, until it is exactly as the developers intended, than have some investors push for release to get profit.
I really do hope that this is the version of SQ42 that CR is looking for because I am excited to play the game, but if it isn't, then I hope he gets the opportunity to remake it. The same with SC.
