HGE Improvement

Now, I have to agree with you that the whole thing could be a bit more transparent and coherent. I don't know why Biotech Conductors and Exquisite Focus Crystals never appear at HGEs and if there are balancing or lore-wise reasons for it. That does seem odd, but then again, space oddities make the game what it is.
They are easily obtained via missions. 🤷‍♂️ Well, easy for me anyway. Some won't be satisfied until Frontier pops them in care packages just for logging in every day. 🤷‍♂️

Sure you can get and trade any HGE - but that's not the point. It's about find specific HGEs. The 8th HGE from the list of possible HGEs for signal farm. That's the frustrating part - when you are down to one or two left. Why not make those signals (and thus all of the 8 HGEs) more frequent, more prolific etc? Doesn't seem to be a big ask. And it would align with the experience of farming Encoded and Raw mats. i.e. you go to Jameson and find. i.e. you visit the list of commonly known planets for Raws and find. i.e. you go to get the 8th HGE and you dont find. Why not make it find? The idea is to facilitate and speed up the process of engineering and engagement in the actual game and not the grind. I guess some miss the old grind days.

Yes but the objective is to get the engineering done, how you get the mats to do that doesn’t really matter, collecting directly doesn’t get you a bonus over trading for them.

Removing grind is why they introduced the traders in the first place.

Increase the frequency and proliferation of HGE signals. It's still a very frustrating aspect of the game than can easily be fixed, even when using this 3rd Party website: https://edgalaxy.net/hge
Once this is fixed, then ship engineering will truely be fixed.
I'm wondering if you are looking for HGEs the slow way, in other words, scanning the system with the FSS scanner.

If that's the case, you are doing it the very, very slow and inefficient way. The proper way to do it is to scan the navigation beacon of the system, which reveals all the signals in the system at once. After that, jump to supercruise and check your navigation panel. Filter it to show only signals. You'll very quickly see if there are any HGEs in the system, and you can target them from the panel.

If there are no HGEs, just jump to the next system and repeat the process. (You can leave the navigation panel filter on, because it will show the nav beacon there even with that filter. It's easy to select the nav beacon from there.)

I was going to NAV sites based on this website: https://edgalaxy.net/hge
Finding HGEs in general is easy - its when you get down to the last 1 or 2 that the frustration tends to kick in.
How can I do this better without trading other HGEs across HGE catagories?

Anyway - it doesnt matter - all I am suggesting is they be made more frequent, prolific and perhaps guaranteed to present in a system that meets the criteria for that HGE type.

Dude joined in '23 and is complaining about the lack or scarcity of HGEs :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Bro, do you know how much of a grind it was back when HGEs were even more scarce and didn't have f_ton of mats to max out one type in one go?

Go to high pop systems in diverse states, you'll find one, maybe two HGEs with 100s of mats of one type, go to the next system, fill up another one, then trade for what you need.

Mat farming has become so darn easy nowadays, you can easily G5 a hull tank PvP conda in a day, which btw, used to take a week or more if you had time to spare

I has no relevance when I started playing this iteration of Elite. FYI I played the original version in the 80s. I could have even 'joined' last week and the arguments would still be just as relevant. Not much logic in a lot of responses here. But then again its the internet - what does one expect?

If you rely on that list instead of truly understanding how HGEs work, where they spawn and what they contain, it's no wonder you're frustrated.
^ This.

There's really not much more to say on the subject. There are certain systems that persistently spawn HGEs. LP 413-18 is one such system. Eridani 21 is another.

If you can't find a HGE for improvised components, just go to LP 413-18, scoop up the Core Dynamics Composites (IIRC), then trade them. You'll have full bins of both in half an hour, an hour at most.

Yeah - I think that's what I will end up doing - as a work around of game design. Still would like to see them more prolific, frequent, and perhaps guaranteed in systems which meet the basic system state criteria.

Trading mats isn’t a work around of game design it is a part of the game design that allows multiple ways to achieve the goal and adds a richer feel to the world in the game.

I know why they spawn - it's based in certain system criteria per HGE. Still would love to see them more prolific, more frequent, and perhaps guaranteed in systems 100% of teh time that meet those criteria - instead of having to jump to another system or take what ever HGEs I have and cross trade them (a work around to the above).

Adding a 'richer' feel is just as subjective as my argument. At least I know my opinion is just an opinion and is mine.
