Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yeah it's also a strange post-mortem of sorts too. Going all mea culpa on all the broken issues, with condemning language on each failing. While also saying there's a laser focus on fixing this (very long) list of top line troubles.

I particularly liked...

Mission Issues
The mission system underwent a refactor with 4.0.0, temporarily reducing the number of available missions. However, we are still seeing familiar issues, including:
  • AI not spawning at mission locations (both ship and FPS AI)
  • Mission sharing and reputation inconsistencies
  • Concerns about time vs. reward balance, especially for group play

And...

LTP and Keeping What You Earn
The system has become unreliable, with frequent reports of lost items, ships, and money. While each case is investigated individually, underlying loopholes and complexities impact overall reliability. Since this pertains to progression and respecting player time, it's a critical issue and top priority.

They're clearly trying to head off the storm. With the 2hr Benoit vid a bonus sacrificial offering.

But the only way to really douse this fire would be... to actually fix these perennial issues ;)

I like how many comments praise Terada for prodding CIG into damage control mode.

So essentially they're focusing on fixing:
  • Missions
  • Instanced hangars
  • Transit
  • Character corruption
  • Inventory persistence
  • Quantum travel
  • Load times.
With a side eye on...
  • Invulnerable AI & players
  • Freight elevators
  • Physics collision fails
  • Ships resetting (on server boundaries)
  • Mineables not loading
  • 'And more...'
Hard to think of anything that's not on the list...

(Although Server Meshing lurks large in the background ;))

I think the whole thing is going to start to implode some time after the first quarter. There is no real solid code base to build an actual game on and finally people are beginning to realize it's never going to be fixed.

It's amazing that CIG has managed to juggle this for ten long years, keeping all those balls in the air. But inevitably, those balls are going to come crashing down. The gravity of reality is relentless no matter how well you spin the situation.

At this point, I think we should start to think about what happens after. There's going to be a crowd of angry, disillusioned, and desperate people looking for an alternative and a sizable number of them will be headed this way.

They'll be going through the seven stages of grief and we'll most likely have to hold their hands as they adjust to ED.

ChatJPT all over that thread trying to defend CiG by demeaning Terada :D

CiG are agreeing Terada was correct, even if they don't say he was part of the reason they reacted.

But enough about Chris Roberts, let´s talk about Terada now.

This has kinda been the case for a decade though. So long as they glamour enough noob eyes they do alright. They only need the select whales from those ranks really. (The MLM boons are just a bonus).

If CIG can get their free flies working again, and keep their extensive marketing machine rolling, they'll probably keep on trucking. Even as a couple of wheels fall off ;)

For a Derek Smart style 'Extinction Level Event' we'd need a bunch of mechanical failures in concert. Sentiment, cash & game stability all taking a concerted dive together, etc.

A Calders withdrawal could be the catalyst there. But that's if it even happens.
