Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Beta Details & Feedback

I have a question. After delivering all the materials and building the station, do I have to wait with the next colonization jump from this sector until the station is launched and operable on Thursday?
If you meant from that system that you just colonized, I think that the answer is yes (barring some bug, of course). I think they said that the colonisation contact won't appear in the station until it has become operational.

No, the colony contact is active immediately.
Oh, I vividly remember them saying in the original announcement that the contact would only appear when the station becomes active after the thursday maintenenace break.

Did they change it, or is it a bug?

BGS missions and station stuff will be after maintaince. Colonization and other normal contacts are available immediately.

“Dead end” gameplay means transporting goods from A-->B for tens or hundreds of hours. It's not fun, it's boring and even tedious. They called us "Architects", do you know at least one architect who personally transports goods to a construction site by truck?
Then don't do it personally. Incentivise others to do it... this is a collaborative task.

Yet still, "A->B hauling" is still something, compared to literally nothing, if you just paid NPCs.

Talking numbers, I strongly believe the material costs should be brought down across the board. The average player is not going to be having a great time hauling 15,000+ tonnes to build a single outpost, a lot of people are going to feel pretty burnt out after that - it'll be interesting to see how many colony system we'll see with nothing but the initial outpost (and the many more who abandoned their effort).

Outside of numerical balancing, the gameplay is stale and uninspired, just another resource hauling task. There are people who enjoy this sort of gameplay but there are many people who don't, and they currently have no alternative options for building a colony. Even once that's completed, you're left with a rather unsatisfying reward with little mechanical depth, the actual utility and flexibility of a colonized system is surprisingly lackluster.

I was quite excited for the Trailblaze update but currently this is just another great idea with a disappointingly narrow implementation.

First, try to earn this money. If it will cost 5-10 billions per system - ED credits will become valuable again

Who'd have thought outfitting an entire solsr system with facilities for millions to billions of people might cost something?

The whole cut of this is apparently people have multiple billions, that they want to sink into npcs to do the work for them, rather than making that available to players... but somehow "it's not enough incentive"....? That doesn't stack.

Do we have an update on that "system claim unsuccessful"? It still persists, trying from multiple areas surrounding the desired system to be colonized within the bubble limit, the system is green, it does all steps then display bottom right corner that error.

with this colonisation systerm, a faction can make expansion very easily, as when main starport is completed, the system is populated with factions, incuding the architect one.
does anyone know if a cmdr that make a colonisation far from his faction systems can expand his faction, like very far ?

It seems to work at least within the bubble, from what people have reported.

My squadron is currently aligned to a Colonia faction so that I can test if there's any distance limit at all, but I won't have chance to test that for a little while.

Congratulations cmdr, in my understanding, “system colonization” is not one port, but an infrastructure of interconnected objects. Are you ready to repeat the construction another 10-15 times?
Me personally? Yes. And lots of the non- dockable intra is only 5000t or so, and no time limit on any builds. So i can take all the time in the world.

Note the non dockable infra is far better for stat building in most cases.

without limit, that would be a mess in the BGS.
i couldn't imagine a faction, a squadron, moving 200 LY in another one area...
Heck, I've pulled random other PMFs into my new systems... likewise a quick build near an expanding faction could redirect their expansion. Not to mention a malicious architect building things that introduce vulnerabilities for a controlling faction.

Suffice to say, this continues to loosen the grip of players on the bgs, which is a good thing.

Oh, I vividly remember them saying in the original announcement that the contact would only appear when the station becomes active after the thursday maintenenace break.

Nope. They only said that "some of the facilities will be turned off" :

the construction ship arrives and you and any other player can deliver goods to that colonization ship and when the list is complete ... the new port will be deployed. Initially for the space ports they will be in an under construction phase ... not all the people will be in place, some of the facilities will be turned off ... then on the Thursday it will spin up and be deployed into orbit.

So it's unknown whether the contact availability right now is a bug or not.

Personally, I'm leaving off finishing up my in-progress station until there's a bit more clarity on the post-completion status (a statement from FDEV addressing numerous comments that the construction mission re-appears and other oddities, comments that it's necessary to wait until next tick to begin constructing further assets, etc., would be timely and useful at this point.)

Maybe I misremember... I thought it was Arx for the system, Station was by-default (apparently, there's already some... interesting... station names?)

From what I read:
  • you can't name systems
  • you can name stations using built-in system for free, re-rolling as many times as you want before picking a name and then renaming up to 5 times after that
  • paying Arx lets you fully custom name one station which you can change as many times as you like.

I am not sure, but are lists in alphabethical order prohibited in the UK? ;)
Or is there another, "Imperial", way to order things? If so, please advise...
This goes for all lists and not only the new, expansion commodity lists.

You mean I have to actually think of ways to do it and play the game?
