Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Claim Pause

The premise that its 'intruding' on unexplored space is ridiculous. The galaxy isn't anyone's own private reserve to be protected. Its a free for all land grab.

Lets face it, you aren't exactly traveling in to the great unknown expanse, if you are just 'exploring' around already occupied human systems. The galaxy is huge there's plenty of room for everyone to engage in the gameplay they want to.

Besides, Its been years and the explorers still haven't found Raxxla. Maybe the colonists will have a better chance, and they may also do something that's actually tangibly useful for the rest of humanity if they manage to build a CMM refinery on it.:p
If players can build a station in under an hour using exploits, and there are at least 1,000 active players per day who can do the exploit trick, then that means ~15,000 systems could be colonised per day with maximum efficiency, discounting food & bathroom breaks, as well as 8 hours of sleep.

At ~400 billion systems, that means it would take thousands and thousands of years of this non-stop labor to completely fill the galaxy. That's discounting any other issues that might get in the way of doing this at peak efficiency.

The only way this could be done in the scale of human lifetimes, utilizing non-stop work from every single active player would be if the scale was more like hundreds of thousands of CMDRs doing this non-stop.

So I don't really fear the "unexplored" getting "tainted" or something, but I do fear the nearby "unexplored" being filled up (it already kinda is) and forcing new players to trek out thousands of light years to do what the rest of us only had to trek out a few dozen lightyears for.

As explorers, many of us want to leave the bubble and go out into unexplored space. We don't want the bubble following us. Endless chains of stations out thousands of light years, which is absolutely possible with the state in which trailblazers was released, is unduly intrusive. Especially because human inhabited systems (and presumably also colonized systems) cause other signals to start spawning around them, including npc pirates with random interdictions. System signals can spawn out some 500+ ly. Ephemeral planetary signals can spawn as far as 2500 ly out - you start to realize you're getting close to the bubble or Colonia when you start noticing that signal noise.

When Odyssey launched, there was a bug causing random human planetary signals, crashed ships and escape pods and such, to spawn in every unexplored system in the galaxy, and it was horribly annoying and immersion breaking. Allowing unlimited colonies to be placed can rapidly and fundamentally alter the intrinsic nature of deep space, which is unique to Elite Dangerous. Such intrusion is wholly unnecessary, as there are innumerable colonizable systems in and around the bubble and Colonia. Fleet carriers are limited to one per commander, for very good reason, and people still complain about fleet carrier spam. Allowing every commander to create unlimited colonies is excessive and needs some upper bound, even if that is just the weekly server tick.

Architect mode is disabled on the system I colonized and built a starport and one surface settlement but it is enabled on other systems so I can claim a new one... If i read the 1st post correctly, it should be the other way around!
Just a few minutes ago I went to Tod the Blaster to engineer some multis and I can see 8, repeat 8 colonization ships! Someone has been hacked me thinks... I hope my 4-day effort to build my colony doesn't go to waste....

Although this is a video game, it should also be noted that this level of expansion makes absolutely no sense. We had about 20k human inhabited systems for years prior to this. Where are the resources and populations coming from to colonize 8k systems this rapidly? And if there was this much colonization push from all these factions, why does it require one of us to pay them to start a claim and have us design it for them?
Unexplored systems are not barren, they're full of endless exploration opportunities.

I have also seen systems that I know were inhabited prior to colonization and now have multiple colonization ships in that same system.

Resources are from the systems, and we buy them from places where they are produced. 8k systems? You mean outposts mostly, with no other constructions in 99% of cases. Remember that those 20k systems usually got tens of settlements and a few spaceports each. And population? you mean 2-16k population per each system? Come on!
I think that more unrealistic would be to have 20k systems and not progress for years. This colonization rush is just typical for beginning. More people now will stuck with system development.

It makes no sense at all that one single CMDR can coloniza an entire system
Even if the CMDR has enough money to pay for it,... Where is he going to find and convince thousands of people to move to the new system?

What will be done to counter system snipers? I Built a chain of 8 systems solo, legitimately only for all of my progress to be undermined by a ganker who camped my outpost and took the system I was building to. Then when I went to message the person, they blocked me, they knew exactly what they were doing.

how do you plan to reward commanders for actually building their own outpost daisy chains when system sniping is almost incentivized right now.?

So, because of the track record I've had with interpreting Frontier announcements, I need clarification on my exact use case:

I have a system claim in progress. As in, it has the Colonization Ship in there, and I am delivering goods to build the FIRST port. What side of the line does this fall on? Will I still be able to turn in goods and eventually build the port, and have it go online the following week, or is some part of this process "paused" too?

Do the planets in the system affect the economy?

If we colonize a system with an Earth-like, do we get a population bonus?

And most important of all for me, can we get terraformation status on terraformable planets? I haven't seen any facilities that give you a terraforming economy...

Absolutely amazing update anyways, thank you!
