Mamba - most useless ship as of 3311

I get what you mean but the Fer-De-Lance doesn't have this issue. The Huge Hardpoint can point through and fire through the hull
Gimballed.
I confirm, to some extent.
My FdL had 4x Concords and a C4 rapid corrosive MC that can fire at my target when it's above the line of sight, although definitely not when above me.

Not as bad as my old FAS for which I often had to do a barrel roll to get all lower gimballed frags to fire :-/

Really, last time I was out in mine it would not fire if the target was obscured by my ship.

Next time I am back in the bubble I will have to break out the FdLs and test them.
Yeah, it's hilarious. I see it every time I finish a fight and look at my ship externally. Its weird that other ships (the Large Hardpoint on the corvette) arent like this

Sssssshhhh!
Don't say it out loud! You don't want the next update to "fix" it on the (not so) new ships... :-/

NOOO!! My Mamba is awesome. Its fast, its cool looking and can pack a punch. Mine has a long range sniper weapon that can sting you as I fly by wearing you down.

Mamba is a ship with specific pros and cons. Its on my small fleet of 17 ships and always will.

Mind sharing your loadout?
Curious about this sniping weapon.

I used to enjoy flying the Mamba...until I got my butt kicked by other commanders...now I am back to Python2...

I basically used this ship to close deals during my younger.. ehh.. slavetrader days :) Was called Babe Magnet haha

What kind of loadout(s)?
....
Why would you want to put anything except Cytoscramblers on an agile combat ship's small hardpoints?
Gimbals on the large, to deal with the occcasional Viper/Eagle/Courier, and finally something fixed with a good punch on the huge to knock through to Clipper's/Cutter's power plants.

I have a Mamba, I used it as an exploration ship. I like its looks and the cockpit is my favourite in the game (therefore, finding out that it was re-used for the Mandalay sent me over the Moon, and other planets).
Performance wise (for exploration), however, it is just a glorified Hauler, with a much bigger footprint.

I have no plans to use one for combat, yet.

Most useless? Not in my opinion, but damn close 🤭

As I said, it's a perfectly fine ship for PvE...

I like 4 gimballed frags and a huge fixed long range beam. Solves the convergence problem, works even somewhat in PvP and is generally a fun loadout.
Wouldn't 4 LARGE gimballed frags and two medium fixed beam be better?
The difference in damage for the frags is huge, not so big for the beams (I used them mainly to cool down since incendiary+double shot tends to cook my ship, eh eh), and the convergence is good.

The Python2 is better, no question. But I like the Mamba that way, too.

You don't go to war in a Ferrari, nor does it do too well when your family grows. But it could have picked up Mommy to get one started ;) If you set it up for a race against a Lambo (Clipper), it's anyone's guess how each is tuned under the hood. Maybe just none of the use cases you can imagine goes with a machine like that. And yet there are people who buy them.

(I took a Clipper on a long exploration trip. Actually Mamba was also considered, might still do it one day.)

Edit: Oh, will you look at this Asp Scout... with the latest FSD https://edsy.org/s/vcWh46T
Mamba gets only this far https://edsy.org/s/vgrZCQF but still works where there's higher star density (and there is a lot more to explore than at the fringes anyway.) Well, you can do that in literally any ship.

Its only advantage is a generous greater top speed, and a not so greater boost speed.

As far as the Mamba is concerned it has probably the best weapons layout in the game.
The hard point layout is the best feature of the Mamba.
What kind of loadout(s)?

Frags? Nope.
With a full frags (overcharged) loadout, a full burst on the Python2 4xC3 + 2xC2 deals up to ~1484 damage (+46%) vs Mamba 3xC3 + 2xC1 of up to ~1014 damage.
And then you need to take into account the super low penetration of 20 for the Mamba's C1 frags that cannot even deal full damage to an Eagle, and not even 1/3 damage to the Python2...

Plasma? Nope.
There is no C1 plasma available, so that is FdL 4xC2 + 1xC4 deals 424.63 damage (+17%) vs Mamba 2xC3 + 1xC4 deals 362.15 damage.
The armor piercing 100 for the C2 plasma, unlike for frags, is super high, so no disadvantage to use C2 vs C3/C4.
As for the efficiency, the smaller the plasma, the higher is the efficiency. FdL needs 30.6 distributor draw per salvo vs Mamba 26.53 (-13%) so on top of a lower damage output, that would not really help much.

Rails? Nope.
There are no C3 rails available, and will never be as per FDev. I will not even do the math here, since it's pretty much pointless.

Then, what is left in favor of the Mamba is its top speed and boost speed.
Comparing my current Python2 build at 409m/s and 551m/s, a similar config of the Mamba is at 485m/s (+18.5%) and 594m/s (+8%).
And the Python2 would then score ~3600 shield and ~2260 hull vs Mamba ~3300 (-9%) shield and ~2180 (-4%) hull.
You could try to make the Mamba ultra light to achieve greater speed (I did initially) of 500m/s and 613m/s, but that would be a slight increase of speed for a huge loss of shield and hull, which is not worth it.

FDev decided to BADLY sacrifice firepower for a slight increase of speed...not really sure why they decided to do that so badly.
I did try, but could not find a valid reason to fly the Mamba, other than it is a pretty ship ;)
"Run, Mamba run....run run run run run..."
You make good points but based on the premises of using single-type, fixed weapon loadouts. For diversified loadouts and gimballed weapons, the Mamba is hands down better to work with than the FDL. If you put a gimballed weapon on the huge hard point of an FDL, it can't fire half the time because you mask its fire by keeping your target in front of your canopy where you can see it. Not an issue with the Mamba. Thermal vent beams don't need to be smaller than class 1, putting the on a larger hard point takes up energy that could be focused elsewhere. 2x class 1 and 2x class 3 is a much better setup in that regard (slightly higher DPS in an all-multicannon build for that matter).

Python2?
Rail or/plasma FdL?
Armor penetration of non-plasma/rail on the C1 hardpoints ?
And yes, I use gimballed frags...on my P2.

MC's...yep, Mamba is a fine PvE ship (saying it again) ;)
