Ok this is seriously cruel.

So I spent hours and hours doing all I needed to do to unlock Marco Qwent, probably the most time consuming and arduous task I've spent in game so far. Finally I'm in Sirius on my way to the Lucifer base to see Qwent and hand over the modular terminals (which I had to do 3 missions for) when I get interdicted. OK, fine, I've been interdicted in my type-6 before and have been able to escape just fine. I'm literally on top of the escape vector for most of the interdiction, easily, however none of the blue bars would light up showing my progress, in fact no progress was made in escaping the interdiction despite being all over the escape vector. I just watched in horror as all the red bars went up, I was dropped out of supercruise and was blown to bits in less than 30 seconds. All the modular terminals I got are now lost. It was like a big final FU by the game after spending a good chunk of a day trying to unlock Qwent. Like what? Seriously angry right now.

Past performance is not a guarantee of future outcomes and your approach was contingent on a single, foreseeable, point of failure (shaking an interdiction). Learn what you can from the setback, grab some more modular terminals, and try again.

If you're playing in Open, you'll be subject to potential interference from other CMDRs, many of whom will be much better at the tunnel game than any NPC. If you aren't ready for this, stick to a different mode when doing these activities. On the flip side, if you are playing with other people, they may be able to deliver modular terminals to you at the destination.

Regardless of mode, it's prudent to realize that any cargo will attract NPC pirate attention and that one may eventually fail to escape an interdiction. Having a ship that can fight off or evade any conceivable NPC threat for the duration of the FSD cooldown is wise, if making it to your destination, cargo intact, is important.

The only reason I was in my type-6 is because I don’t have a big combat ship with cargo space to spare for the 24 modular terminals. I was winning the interdiction, I was all over the escape vector and yet got no progress for it. It was a loose-loose scenario for me, clearly favoured the interdicting player.

And are there any repercussions for the player who blew me up and destroyed my efforts or is the person just paying a small fine and on his way as usual?

Experienced players do not care for bounty's. Some collect them.

Be wary when visiting engineering systems in Open -and other busy places-. You need experience and the correct ship to get away from a ganker.
Other players have a hollow triangle on the radar

If your attacker's ship is a noticeably more agile ship, a T-6 isn't noted for it's agility, the interdicting ship will have a distinct advantage. On the great Serengeti that is ED, the 'T' class ships are metaphorical wildebeests. Prey, and little more.

On a side note, don't be too discouraged, what you faced is basically a 'rite-of-passage'. These things build character. You have taken one more step towards becoming Elite.

Ok well I don’t know (obviously) how extra potent players can be at interdiction than what I’ve already experienced with NPCs. From my experience I never had a chance to win the interdiction despite technically doing the right thing all throughout. Which makes the whole escape vector a pointless endeavour, apparently, when against a player as opposed to to NPC.

Escaping NPC should be doable. Set throttle to 75% (in the blue) for max maneuverability. Or, what I mostly do. Is submit (speed to 0) and just boost away. Most NPCs should be slower. Additionally do not jump to super cruise if you can not get away from the player/npc. Jump to another system. That way of escaping is much faster. It is better to run away and to try again.

Hi CMDR, do you know the players in game name? If you believe to be griefed it's important to report them. I can relay their name to some of our buddies who fight gankers like that. Shoot me your cmdr name and Ill give you those resources for the engineer
Sent a message.

Thanks. I’ve been pretty successful at winning interdictions but apparently it’s a different ball game with players. I dunno… I was on top on the escape vector like 70% of the time but it meant nothing.

There is a time limit for escaping

Take care and fly dangerously ;)

On a side note: you don't have to deliver the Engineer's bribe in one go - you can deliver them one by one if you want.
As for using a combat ship - if you approach an engineer's base in open as a less experienced player, you may as well not bother. An experienced PvP player will still blow you to bits. The good ones may spare you the next time round if you give them a good fight, but they rarely hang out in starter engineer systems.

The way the current game is balanced.... surviving an encounter like that is basically impossible. Even if you're the best pilot in the game I don't think you're getting away in a Type-6. Your only option is to play in Solo/Private when going to these engineering systems, unfortunately.

Later on you can engineer a ship that'll survive encounters like this.

It's rare, if not impossible, for an inexperienced commander to escape from another experienced commander, especially if, as I'm guessing, he's a ganker who spends his life patrolling engineering systems looking for rookies. It's a tough part of learning: avoid hot systems in the open.
Ok thanks. I guess I know now, I thought it was like the interdictions I experienced before.
