Planet Zoo | Asia Animal Pack | Announcement

I'm glad to see the community is enjoying the pack!
AND as a tour guide at the Bronx Zoo, I feel SEEN with the blackbuck, nigali, and Pere David's deer.

Also major tip of the hat to Frontier for truly course correcting with primate representation this last leg - 3 new monkeys and the sifaka are really beefing up a once lackluster selection.

But my heartbreak of no duck or pelican is immeasurable and I appreciate privacy during this difficult time.
this is a plug so that everyone here requests the duck knight as their tour guide at the bronx zoo. he does great sopranos and muppets impressions. highly recommend.

This pack is truly the realization of one of my biggest dreams!

I can't express how grateful and excited I am - thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I honestly couldn’t be happier right now! 🥰

I like it better than I was expecting.
My thoughts on the animals:
  • Honey Badger 10/10: This animal seemed like a strong candidate to me. I was hoping we'd get it at some point to 'complete' the badgers/badger-likes.
  • Blackbuck 9.5/10: Probably the most essential ungulate. It is extremely popular and great for the roster. Indian coverage is pretty good now.
  • Lion Tailed Macaque 9/10: I don't care too much for this species, but India definitely needed a monkey, and this was a very popular and solid pick for that role.
  • Tanuki 9/10: Not essential, but I love this adorable dog. I'm so excited!
  • Nilgai 9/10: The blackbuck definitely needed a friend to cover the lacking Indian savannahs, and the nilgai was my top pick for that role. It is one of the most unique ungulate options remaining.
  • Scenery 8?/10: With the understanding that it isn't competing with scenery packs, I thought the picture looked nice. I'll have to see more to be sure of my score.
  • Butterfly 4/10: I'm glad we're getting another butterfly even if I was hoping for the emerald swallowtail for a green one. This butterfly is pretty.
  • Pere David's deer 4/10: I would've been fine subbing in a red deer for this species, but the conservation story and somewhat unique appearance make it ok. I have less patience for it with the other two ungulates. Otherwise, maybe I would've given it a 5 or 6/10? I'm glad China got some rep here, but it still needs its monkey, 2 ornamental birds, a muntjac, and probably its alligator for good Chinese zoo rep. I hope they'll come later.
  • Bornean elephant 1.5/10: The pheasant and duck were right there! I like elephants, though, so I wouldn't give it a zero. I'm trying to be optimistic about it. Hopefully has a great model and is more unique than I expect.
Asia is still obviously missing: Mandarin Duck, Golden Pheasant, Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey, Muntjac, Cobra, Python, Gecko, Hornbills, Koi

If I redid this pick I don't think I would keep anything other than the blackbuck and macaque. Swap the elephant, raccoon dog, nilgai, and ratel (fine inclusion in a vacuum but save it for a Safari pack) for a Demoiselle crane, Reeve's muntjac, mandarin duck, and golden pheasant respectively.

It's kinda nice how we got both of the "four in one" animals in this pack.
According to legends, Pere David's Deer was created from an ox, a mule, a deer, and a camel (although different myths suggest a different mix of animals).
Meanwhile the Nilgai's scientific name is literally "ox deer goat camel".

Doesn't change the fact that three ungulates, an elephant and a dog make up for an abysmal roster.

hey good for you for picking a new assumption to get mad about after being mad about the rhino you were so sure they were going to add 😅
I'd say the outcome was worse than I could have possibly expected.
I like ungulates but three is too much even for me.
And don't get me started on the two animals (one of which is the dog) that are basically not found anywhere outside of their native range.

Congratulations on the announcement of the Planet Zoo: Asia Animal Pack!
Thank you very much for your continued hard work on development.

The lineup is full of wonderful and fascinating animals,
but what delighted me the most as a Japanese player was the inclusion of the Japanese raccoon dog (Hondo Tanuki)!
The Japanese Planet Zoo community is also thrilled and buzzing with excitement over the announcement of this DLC.

However, there is one matter I find difficult to overlook.
The Bornean Pygmy Elephant has been translated into Japanese as 「ピグミーゾウ」(Pygmy Elephant),
but in Japan—particularly among zoological and academic institutions including zoos—
the more commonly used name is 「ボルネオゾウ」(Borneo Elephant).

If you happen to read this message, I would be sincerely grateful if you would kindly consider revising the translation.
Thank you very much for your attention to this matter.

Well am I late for the party or what 🙃, anyway this dlc looks like great, still don't know what frontier is smoking to ame them think the elephant was a good choice but everything else is nice.

Like the ungulate choices are almost perfect, though I do wish we got a muntjac.

Let me rank them real quick for worst to best

Pygmy Bornean Elephant: while it might be relatively pointless I don't despise it as much asI thought, still 3/10 but in my humble opinion I don't really feel anger nor happiness towards it

Tanuki: glad to see it, but I really don't care much for it, 7/10

Nilgai: similarly to Tanuki, but gets bonus points for being a India rep, 7/10

Père David’s Deer: I love them so much and I am so glad there here, hard to say if I like them or the blackbuck more but I went with the blackbuck, but this one is still great, 8/10

Blackbuck: similar boat to the Deer, they are also very useful as a filler species, 8/10

Honey Badger: look great, can't wait to see more of them, 8.5/10

Lion-Tailed Macaque: while I would rather have a langur I am grateful for more primate this one works really well for all sorts of zoos, 9/10

Overall a pretty solid pack with one wastes slot.
So overall I give it a 8.5/10 in terms of just roster and nothing else

Why are you negative about literally anything in this game? Do you even enjoy the game?

I do enjoy the game.
But there are some things I don't like... And raccoon dogs are one of them.
Also, while I generally like ungulates, I feel like this pack had much more potential than having three slots dedicated to three very similar animals in terms of habitat building. If the Nilgai was scrapped in favour of a muntjac, I would have been happier.
But it's the presence of yet another dog that really throws me off.

Finally we got the blackbuck! And the nilgai too? Nice to see both make it. I'm mixed on the raccoon dog, personally I wish it was the mainland species.

Overall pretty good pack, the elephant is a big stain on it and the lack of a bird is disappointing but yea apart from that all of these are really solid picks - India especially got a huge boost here which is great to see.

I do.

That's fine not to like it, but the constant griping about it and how it's abysmal gets tiresome, especially to those that are genuinely happy about it. It's not even feedback at that point, just complaints
