I am fine with the elephant. I will probably even build an exhibit for them. But I am disappointed that they got a slot in the DLC. Would have much preferred a gaur (I know, another ungulate) or a bird species like one of the Asian hornbills. Frontier had to know that people would be disappointed with another elephant. Giving us the Borneo Pygmy Elephant would be like giving us the Tapanuli Orangutan.

With the little difference that we actually could really use a proper orang utan instead of a orange gorilla with an orang face

It isn't though? Honey badger and nilgai look leagues better than the elephant. And the elephant itself isn't even much of an improvement over base game Indian elephant.

Sometimes we talk about not dumbing down the "general audience" in this forum but the fact a lot of those people are celebrating that they are paying for a straight up copy paste duller indian elephant and calling it a necessary and better inclusion than say small mammals, monkeys or birds doesn't help much in that regard.

I usually try to just remind myself that everyone's got their preferences to most animals that I don't personally care for, in that they're useful in some way. But I just can't find a way to put a positive spin on a third elephant. It joins the ranks of the Dama Gazelle and the Barnyard packs' pig of "why frontier, why?" for me.

This on is even worst. I can understand why a pig in a farm pack even if i don't care about the farm pack in the slightless. But i see the appeal for others. And i can even understand the dama gazelle because is different from other gazelles we have, is critically endangered and it's model looks beautiful. And it doesn't really fill the same niche as other gazelles we have. But this one... is just a more boring looking indian elephant.

From the comments I’ve seen at least on my video people are defending the elephant and saying it looks better than the Indian - which I guess I can agree with a bit but it’s not that much of an upgrade and now looking at it it’s even more bland in colouring than the Indian.
That's why we are doomed to mediocre packs. People will deffend choices like this one just because is an elephant and they like elephants, not thinking twice they are making them pay for an animal they already have. And is why we still don't have more birds and small animals in the game.

This elephant thing is really driving me insane.
I'm tired of people saying that you're not allowed to like a certain thing, constantly shoving the same old narrative down your throat... Sure, I'm not allowed to like the inclusion of the elephant, but I guess adding another dog (and a really poorly made one at that) is perfectly fine I guess. People in this community are just too biased, and will simply hate on those with different opinions. I understand why a lot of us don't want another elephant, but I don't think it's fair to hate on those who like its inclusion by calling them "mindless" or dumb or stuff like that.

A few people even suggested we get more elephants 😭
It’s honestly sad that this probably is the reason the roster will never be balanced because so many people wish for so many reskins instead of actual groups that we need like birds and monkeys

Because an Indian Elephant recolor is so redundant it makes the Himalayan Brown Bear look good? And we have to pay extra to use it?

It's more like why is it that other players can't enjoy something. Why can't somebody like the llama? Because it's domestic and thus not a zoo animal? Since when does that stop an animal from being zoo worthy?

Why is it that several people act like this is the only place that gets to provide feedback and elsewhere it isn't? Everybody has their own likes, so we shouldn't shame others for liking them even if we don't agree.

Hating the elephant is not gonna solve anything. You're just setting yourself up to he disappointed. Yeah, I wooldnt have chosen it either, but the deed is done and the only thing to do is just provide feedback: "hey, I don't like this, can we get something else later?"
But the constant complaining is getting so old and tiresome
