Panther Clipper with Magical Cargo Racks?

Ah, so it's not only the racks that are special, but the slots too? So normal cargo racks won't fit into the special slots on the Clipper? (Not that anyone would want to, but they might be the only ones available at a particular outfitting seller).

Well, IIRC they did hint that the new racks might become available for other ships. But that raises some questions.

Obviously not ALL other ships, as that would erase distinctions between dedicated freighters and multirole ships. So they'll never fit in a Cutter, Anaconda, Python, Corsair etc.

If they'll fit in the existing T-series ships... how? These ships don't have the reserved slots that the Panther has. And existing slots can't be turned into reserved slots, because there will be ships out there that already have non-cargo modules in those slots. So will they fit in unrestricted slots in the T-series ships? And does this also mean that they'll fit in the Panther's unrestricted slots too?

Whereas if only as-yet- unreleased ships will have these restricted slots... why do we need more freighters anyhow, after the Panther? We still have the T-series ships, we don't need smaller freighters.

I'm pretty sure regular Cargo modules will fit in those slots too, though other than a few extreme edge-case scenarios I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't just fit the +50% version instead.

You raise a good point about existing build compatibility, so I doubt very much they'll retro-fit them into the older ships.

Now, it's possible that FDev will say that some of the older ships are being upgraded to accommodate these slots, but that would mean locking out slots for Cargo/Fuel only, so I only think it's likely on something like the T9/T7/T6.
That depends on if they're adding a new slot or changing an existing slot. If they're adding a cargo/fuel only slot I'd love to see them add one to the combat ships. It wouldn't increase their combat effectiveness but it'd help their utility out. There's quite a few ships that could get a new slot but far fewer that'd be suitable if they altered an existing slot. A combined approach might be possible with some ships gaining a whole new slot and others like the T9 getting an existing slot altered.

There 2 new things added:
Special Cargo Slots (for the lack of official name) and Optimised Cargo Racks.

You can only put these modules in SCS:
- Cargo Racks
- Fuel Tanks
- Optimised Cargo Racks

Yes, but can you only put the Special New Enhanced Cargo racks in them? Not "normal" racks?

No, as my post says - and as per FDEV :)

Why would you put standard CR's in there if they can take the OCR, I don't know :D

Maybe the actual question was:

Will we be able to put Optimised Cargo Racks in regular/old module slots?

My assumption is no (and it hadn't even occurred to me until I read it here), but Frontier haven't been clear on that. Maybe because they didn't think of that question either.

I think you misunderstood the question. ;)

Introducing a new type of rack surely made it occur to Cutter pilots. Go beyond 792 tons or whatever it is for a Cutter.
It's not like every military module that's pre-engineered or "special" can only go in Military slots.
All pretty obvious questions.

Will we be able to put Optimised Cargo Racks in regular/old module slots?

During Frontier Unlocked, it was stated explicitly not; Optimised cargo must go into Storage module slots, of which only the Panther will have any for the moment!

Less clear was exactly whether it has classes 8 and 7 as extra storage modules or if its stated optional modules included the storage modules; the former would give it a disproportionate 1622 T maximum, although more likely is the latter with 1238 T maximum, aligning with the 50%-more-cargo claim.

No, OCR only fit into the new special slots. They confirmed that on the live stream.

Just to remind people, we do already have different capacities of cargo racks in the same size.
We have the 1E corrosion-resistant cargo rack, with a capacity of 1t, and also the 1F* CR cargo rack, with a capacity of 2t.

Seems like, it'd be fairly straightforward for FDev to create 7/8F cargo racks and then restrict their fitment to the PC... for the moment.

*slightly odd that the 1F cargo rack is superior to the 1E, reversing the standard convention where higher letters (usually) indicate less usefulness.

Has it been confirmed that the special cargo/fuel slots won't be able to accommodate normal size modules of any type? The way I interpreted the announcement was that there are 2x size 7 + 2x size 8 slots, (and from what others have indicated later) only one of each is a special slot - I didn't hear anything that indicated that the special slots would only be able to take existing cargo racks and fuel tanks and new optimised versions of same.

I was thinking the same this morning: why go the trouble of introducing this whole setup when they could have just given the PC two additional c6 and c7 slots?

What's the balancing here? To prevent having too many cell banks? Too many AFMUs or limpet controllers... ?

I don’t think it has been confirmed but how I heard what was said was that the slots would be restricted to cargo or fuel in the manner of military slots or the deleted passenger slots, the new super up modules would only fit in these ‘storage’ slots.

Very likely to restrict the number of slots available for modules other than fuel tanks and cargo racks.
