Despite X hours in the game, I have never...

I'm just wondering, is the Thargoid War the only bit of content in ED that's no longer available really? It's quite unusual for this game to have content that's no longer available.
If someone missed the War, that's it, they'll never experience it again. Quite a unique situation for ED I think.
The question has already been answered, but I have my own input aside from “Yes”. The only things which remain of that war are the derelict Titans (for how long may be another question but at the same time none of the dead [Thargoid] ships of centuries past have shown any signs of coming back together) and the spire sites which they have left behind that are still rather intact.

But until Frontier chooses to turn all that back on (if they do instead of a different form), all you can really do is play war tourist. And only in those systems because anything else affected looks like the war never happened at all.

There also used to be “holdouts” in HIP 22460 where the madman fired his big glowing Guardian stick and got slapped back by it like no one else in history has yet. Until AXI decided to organize a shootout with the resident Thargoids and somebody from Frontier (in my mind, short-sightedly) decided to hit the off switch on the only (active) unique environment of said war - including anti-Guardian field and less friendly space flowers - left in the game, for a few seconds of recognition in GalNet. So now it’s just a glowing energy field on the planet surface that horribly kills your frames if you get close and zoom in on it.

*You will still get hyperdicted by Thargoids jumping into the system now, however. Just they’ll do the old scan and move along thing instead of becoming angry and firing a shutdown pulse as they did prior.

Probably have my own list of “Things I haven’t done” but first I need to find brain energy to actually put one together… so not yet.

I have about 2k fewer hours on you, so I'm genuinely curious what you did actually do in all that time, CMDR rootsrat :p
Well, I was leading The Winged Hussars to be the 3rd biggest territorial faction in the game (pre-colonisation) and, on a side, getting all gold medals in Squadron Leaderboards (I believe we're still the only Squadron that's ever achieved that) :)

My mum worked evening at Robinsons when I was a small kid, brought home about 100 golly inserts (remember, they were behind the label) so we were able to 'claim' a figurine without actually eating our way through lots of jam / marmalade

In over 6000 hours I have:
  • never been in a squadron
  • never played CQC (not for lack of trying, I must say)
  • never not loved the Type 7
  • never been to Beagle Point (and I hate myself for that)
  • never owned an Anaconda or a FdL
  • never understood the hate for the engine sound of the AspX
  • never run out of fuel
  • never forgiven FDev for misspelling Achernar ( 🤭 )
  • never attacked another player first
  • never mined Methane Clathrate
  • never used my Mamba for combat
  • never thought I would play for over 6000 hours (OOPS, I just did)
  • never looked for Raxxla
  • never seen a GGG

Inspired by a few recent threads and posts by various people I decided to make a list of rather popular things in Elite that I've not done yet, despite my well over 7k hours in the game.

Here goes then. Despite 7k hours in the game, I have never:
  • Progressed through any Navy ranks for both sides
  • Used any of these ships:
    • Alliance Challenger
    • Alliance Chieftain
    • Alliance Crusader
    • Asp Scout
    • Federal Corvette
    • Federal Dropship
    • Federal Gunship
    • Imperial Cutter
  • Been to Mitterand Hollow
  • Seen planets colliding
  • Been to Beagle Point
  • Seen a Green Gas Giant
  • Pirated another player
  • Unlocked all of the engineers in the Bubble
  • Unlocked all of the engineers in Colonia
  • Got any Powerplay module
  • Solo'd a Thargoid interceptor above Cyclops
  • Unlocked all 3 Guardian SLF's (I have 2)
  • Done the Ram Tah's Guardian Obelisks mission
That's all I can think of for now - and that's just on my main account. I've barely touched my 3 alt accounts in the last 10 years :ROFLMAO: . Please never shut the servers down FDEV, I have SO MUCH LEFT TO DO! The list is probably longer tbh, just nothing more "popular" that people usually would do in Elite comes to mind at this late hour.

Post yours! (Or just put "I've done it all" if you have :) ).
Despite having over 5,500 hours, I have NEVER HAD A FIRST FOOTFALL...

Until this very week, I had never upgraded a suit nor a handheld weapon, nor unlocked any of the related engineers. I started doing exactly that this week, and it's actually surprisingly fun. A very nice change of pace. If you want to do something a bit different, I recommend doing that: Fully upgrade all your suits and handheld weapons. Maybe do some engineering too.

Also another thing I had never done until today: Accidentally collided with the exclusion zone of a neutron star.

(Yes, apparently that can happen. And yes, it was scary. I was really close to the jet-cone too.)

What I have not done in ED (yet):

I don't own a FC and probably never will
I have not been to: SagA, Beagle Point, or Colonia
I have not unlocked all Engineers
I don't have Guardian or Titan Tech
I have never committed murder or conducted assassination missions
I did not join the Thargoid War and I've never even seen one (yet)
I have not owned a: Dropship, T8, Corsair, Python II, Cobra Mk IV, or Chieftain
I have never used a docking computer to leave a station
I have never used Supercruise Assist
I have not been pledged to anybody since 2015 (the last restart)
I have never paid any attention to BGS or PP
I have never had to call Fuel Rats
I have never been to a community event (yet)
I don't have alt accounts

I've played since EA a few weeks before First Released - December 16, 2014
I had a three year hiatus after the FC was released and a couple of other multi-month breaks
... and I still play

Have a great day

after probably pushing 4000 hrs I have never

gotten the rank for a cutter/corvette
killed/seen killed a hydra
travelled to colonia or other distant place
built or flown a practically invincible AFK capable metaship
gotten elite in combat
gotten beyond notoriety 3
bought ARX with cash (i did buy some paint jobs pre arx)
bought a premium ship for money/ARX (but do own a Freagle and had the option to start the game with better ships but chose not to)
deliberately opened fire 1st on another player or destroyed one (i have defended myself against a few) excluding CQC
fully reset my save to start from scratch. (i semi regularly bankrupt myself and move to other parts of space with no rep)
unlocked a guardian SLF (i do plan to)
used supercruise assist (I used a docking computer a few times to listen to the blue danube)

oh goodness i truly hope not. the Thargoid war was excellent and had so many unique assets in the game. i hope they ultimately come back for more. 2024 was a superb year for elite and i missed most of the thargoid stuff, only getting involved at the end. A choice i regret!.

I recommend doing that at least once. Even if there's nothing to see there, it's still an experience.

Although there is at least one practical reason to go there: To unlock Etienne Dorn, who is the only engineer who can give you G5 lightweight life support (must have something to do with all those occupied escape pods. Better not ask too many questions.) It's a nice bonus if you are into exploration ships.

I believe there are some modules that were rewarded exclusively via some CGs, and which are not available in any other way anymore.

(For the longest time the class-6 pre-engineered FSD was one of these, although the new pre-engineered SCO drives made it obsolete. However, AFAIK that's not the only example.)

I would second that. I did visit Colonia and Sag A* rather early in my pilot's career when I was still doing more exploration, and it was an interesting experience. Very much so visiting and exploring Colonia (and finding it sucks and doesn't live up to the hype 😁 ) as the feeling of... relaxation when you return "home".

Etienne Dorn is a creepy dude who looks like the Peter-Lorre-lookalike from Raiders of the Lost Ark and should be avoided at all cost. Luckily, lightweighting life support is vastly overrated and only gives you a miniscule increase for a massive material investment.

Remember to pin that blue print before leaving - learn from my mistakes.
Only today spotted that Petra Olmanova (located at the Sanctuary in Asura) is the only engineer can G5 shield your AFMUs - damn this current CG and its gloriously tough NPCs :ROFLMAO:
