Panther Clipper MK II | Highlights

the Galnet News video above says you can get maximum jump range with a 4A powerplant and 3A power distributor and 8D thrusters
i wonder what you can get with a reasonable build (shield + guardian booster + shield boosters/pdc/heatsink in utilities)
i'm guessing maybe a 5A powerplant and 4A distributor 5A powerplant and 5A distributor but sadly the ship is not listed yet on edsy or coriolis
i want to make a trade runner (no weapons) but would like to hit over 20ly laden for colonization and powerplay

edit the 5A/5A i think will work. but if i want to run the 8A thrusters, 6A powerplant and 5A power distributor will get that job done. and i should have over 20LY jump while laden (crosses fingers)

just tinkering around i'm pretty sure a non-weapon panther has no need for the 8A powerplant and 7A dist

If the prospect of losing 16 tons of cargo doesn't bother you, a size 4 Guardian FSD booster would probably get you in the 20ly ballpark. And, frankly, losing 1600 cargo over a hundred (100) runs in exchange for cutting out a jump from an otherwise two jump trek is worth it just for cutting the tedium of flying around the star for said other jump, is a no-brainer to me.

It's not as if that 1,600 cargo is going to make or break anything unless you're really short on time by overestimating how quickly (or well) you could complete a primary T3 starport. And allows more attention to be directed at actual entertainment or tasks you may be doing on the side of shifting cargo. Because, let's face it, pirate interdictions aside it's not a highly demanding activity.

and it is honestly a bit... disappointing? It is barely larger than a T9, and pretty agile. I was hoping for it to be as large as possible on a large pad, and fly like the lumbering beast it is supposed to be. At least that would give it a unique experience.

This is just a T9 but faster, more agile, more firepower, more cargo; generic powercreep without anything genuinely new to experience.
This might be the first case where people want the new upcoming ship to be worse than it actually is.

of course the most pressing question is whether the docking computer on the Panther Mk2 is as evil as the cutter version and enjoys wrapping your new shiny ship into station structures and planetary construction sites whenever possible.

It can defo be a miner, personally i wouldn't want to guess how long it would take to fill it, id go space mad!

O7
Time for Class 3 mining lasers🙃 Universal limpet controller has 8 collectors; add three class 5 collectors and it's 17 collectors. Still 832 tons of Pt with class 6 shield. Class 4 refinery, class 3 prospector, surface scanner, class 2 left for preference. Six class 2 mining lasers would do short work of any rock; you'd be limited by prospecting speed unless doing mapped mining.

Reportedly, the streamers are finding the Panther Mk2's handling to be reasonably well so I'm guessing this won't normally be a problem 🤷‍♂️

I watched the Buur Pit video (

Thank god it is. We need relief for colonization hauling

Not really. The cobra mk5 and type8 had similar complaints, and plenty of us predicted this when FD announced they would sell them for arx. They are not interesting new ships, they are all (except maybe pyhton mk2) vastly superior to existing ships.

Its massive powercreep exclusively inserted to sell more arx. In the case of the PC2 cynically using the excessive colonization grind as an excuse.

Ah yes. Make an artificial grind. Charge money to alleviate it.

Cool.

Hi :)

I suppose it all depends on your personal viewpoint, which I've no argument with btw. :)
What does interest me though about the video...he comments about the actual overall size of the Panther in relation to the large landing pad. Basically there's some more wriggle room there it seems as regards ship size, so maybe any ship slightly larger than the Panther is possible in future?....🤷‍♂️...Imperial Explorer perhaps?...just a random thought. :D

Jack :)
