Ideas for the future of the Imperial Cutter

I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering about the fate of our big trusty old Cutters. It was a pain to acquire so I'm not about to put it up for sale.
I have a G5 Corvette for big pews, the Type-10 for mining, Beluga for space vacations and the Anaconda for engineer runs. Anyone have tips?

Trying to take advantage of its speed, here's two off the top of my head:
HGE/Wake/Mats/Scav Collector
Shield Tank AX (incase they return)

I want to refit mine as a combat ship for CZ. It should be more fun there than the slow Corvette. If one of the remaining two ships for this year is a big combat ship, those plans might change.

That is a cue inviting “Unsinkable” comments… they thought the same of the Titanic.

Just now I'm far away from it again and will be a while, but on my to-do list after return is some serious FA-off training with the Cutter. People hate it for its drifting behaviour, but I think there is some good fun in exactly that. Been fooling around a little buttsliding into the parking lot at ground stations, but without the hull being so tough it would have ended badly a couple times. I want to gain control over that and then fly it like a rallye driver takes curves, at the screeching limit.

It's still my favourite ship for mining. The full complement of mining tools, plenty of limpets, and the lateral thrust works well for orbiting asteroids.

They could give a few of the old ships SCO compatibility, like Adder, Imperial Courier, Dolphin, Asp Scout, Keelback, Imperial Clipper, Orca, Imperial Cutter and Beluga.

Don't really see the PC2 filling the same role as the Cutter.

For me, the Cutter has always been an "armed transport" rather than a "cargo ferry".
It's for taking medium/large payloads to places where there's likely to be trouble and, if there is, it can defend itself and survive.

I know the PC2 can be a shield-tank but I'm not really sure how well it'd do against pirate Annies or Corvettes.
The T10, for example, is a tough ship but it's pretty frustrating to try and engage an attacker because it can be outturned by a moon.
I suspect the same is likely to be true of the PC2.

I'm in no rush to get things done, in ED, so I'd prefer to build ships so they fill distinct roles rather than trying to make one ship do everything adequately.
In terms of cargo hauling, that means I'd prefer to make 2 or 3 trips in my Cutter, knowing any trouble I find will be fun to deal with, rather than make 1 trip in a PC2 while getting pestered by attackers who I can't really do anything about.

Very good points. Thx.

Not really. The story behind the new ships is that they had to be designed from scratch for optimised SCO, with improved thermals and sturdier structure.
Many of the original ships are several hundred years old; the adder design is from nearly 400 years ago.

Why do you have a repair controller and an AMFU on a mat collector?
On a side note, if you go heavy duty deep plating on your reactive armour and add another HRP with thermal res you get a HUGE boost is resistances and armour, with almost zero downsides
