Excelent interview with CIG head of tech and tools Sean Tracy, where you will find him saying gems like:

He is not wrong there!

Or

Translation: SC is utterly broken but other than that, yeah, on par.

😄
CIG: "Despite that, Mrs. Lincoln, what did you think of the play?"

Some bonus bits from that Sean Tracy fan-terview...

[9m40s] CR emails about new tech he'd like to have added (Like some 'obscure GDC presentation' about something 'real fancy, nice, and hard' he's watched)
+
[12m30s] You're not going to be able to 'hide' good new tech from CR. He 'kicks open the door and goes Nanite' (But wouldn't want it copied, would want it custom tailored for SC etc).

[10m50s] Sees Unreal and Unity as their competitors. Wants to give their devs an engine and tools that are as good as theirs [ 😁 ]

[14m30s] Doesn't see them licensing tech. Agreements, plus they're not set up to support clients

[19m30s] They need to work on validation, making sure things aren't getting rebroken etc.

[23m] Big bit on him hoping ToW comes after SQ42 :D [same as that bar citizen info]

[35m] Doing some work on getting an LLM to run off the CPU

[39m] Working on a single planet for Planet Tech v5.

The interview is wild. Seems the guy is having a private competition with companies that they don't compete with him. Constantly looking what they are doing then adding it to the mess. What is needed to make the game should be known by now 10 times over. But he tells us they are technology driven. Makes major sense for a Video Game. Sounds more like a silicon Valley tech bro.
The talk about Ai broke my brain. Having a LLM run on every client machine (Why?) and working on the CPU interference is snake oil salesman bait. There are now at least 3 library that can do that (and many programs that do hat on github). Besides pointless trend chasing.
Every interview is a sales pitch for the community.
Not set up for clients but taking money from the customers. These guys care only about there peers and want that big GDC or E3 reveal.
CIG is in the business of inventing problems and then implementing a proof of concept to please the boss. I bet they worked on some crypto nonsense to at some point.

They have managed to ensure that 3.18 is no longer the worst version of the game, and that the elevator meme is now the worst memory of an event in SC history.

Refugees assembled! Hurston rep is done!

Obviously anyone can say something like that and it doesn't have to be true, but...

At close to $140k invested into the project

I uh... I mean... The uh.... It's just.... What the... Erm...

I can't think of anything else to say.

I can think of lots of things to say. They'd all get me banned from the internet let alone the FDev Forums!

There's always more, and it's always...

its even worse you think....

[Concern]

This is not a rant – we need to talk about these issues and more importantly, inform other Citizens (especially those who don’t have much time and are wondering what’s going on).

Very important information: PTU Patch 4.2.1 was in an RC3 state. Many PTU testers had been shouting from the rooftops since RC1, but CIG ignored the warnings and pushed the update to live. Also, Freight Elevators (FE) have been bugged and broken since their release (Patch 3.24, August 2024).

Here’s a summary of some new critical and persistent issues:
  • [Major] Performance/Stability: CTDs (crash-to-desktop) are back, similar to 3.18.
  • [Minor] Performance/Stability: Lag spikes at the spawn area of the Protect Mission and occasional severe desync in that zone.
  • [Major] Server Errors: Frequent server issues, like we had in 4.0
  • [Critical] Freight Elevators: Invisible cargo.
  • [Critical] Freight Elevators: New "overloaded" bug – nothing visible on the grid, but it's bugged.
  • [Critical] Freight Elevators: Personal hangars are affected too. You can only use one layer in height; stacking boxes causes bugs.
  • [Critical] Freight Elevators: Internal error still persists.
  • [Minor] Protect Missions: Occasional endless enemy spawn loops.
  • [Critical] Cargo Grid: The infamous “cargo stuck to the grid” bug is back (seen in 4.0). Happens when the ship is auto-stored or after a bed logout.
  • [Major] Hangars: Overlapping hangars appear to be back on Hurston. If you have cargo and your ship gets impounded while landing in “your” hangar, it triggers the cargo grid bug.
  • [Critical] Performance/Stability: Servers are degrading 5–10 times faster than before.
  • [Minor] Ship Elevators: Some ship elevators stopped working or behave erratically (e.g., the Corsair – sometimes sends you to the roof and gets stuck).
  • [Minor] Account/Character: Characters sometimes respawn at random or unintended locations after death, regardless of your set spawn point.
These are just some of the current bugs (both - old and new) that are occurring even after multiple hotfixes. Things are only getting worse and worse, seemingly just to make this event function.
Each hotfix seems to break more things than it fixes, and the problems are starting to spread into unrelated parts of the game.

This situation is fundamentally different from previous patches or issues — it's affecting core gameplay on a much broader scale. for example -> Spawn locations got taken over by the event (Mercenery / Bounty Hunter)

I can’t speak for everyone, but I know many feel the same:
We don’t want new content until the core features are stable and working.
Please stop adding new content on top of broken systems.

its time for another 6 month break in order to respect my personal time
o7 - to every citizen - fly safe and have fun

EDIT - IMPORTANT UPDATE (CargoGridBug) 24.07.2025 07:33 (CEST):
The recent hotfix has introduced new issues — because now automatic ship loading at the refinery is affected too sometimes !
The cargo grid bug is causing boxes to stack inside each other, even when the ship is properly stored which ends in losing everything.
The problems keep spreading, and things are getting worse and worse. Dont risk your mining effort! i know maaaaaaaaaaany citizens are mining due to the FE bugs.
