Titan Drive Component - Why is it so difficult

I Have tries for days to get this drive component, Ive spend hours circling the titan at Sol.
Flying through the thing, around the debris on the edges, varying my distance out to 21km.
Going in different orbits, jumping out and back in, re-logging....

It spawns just about every other thing apart from the drive... loosing all hope.

And Its getting really boring now how is this fun at all, I don't mind grind but this is just bloody annoying.

Haven't tried in a while.
But even when the FSDs were newly available at tech brokers,
I had seen very unreliable results, e.g.:
0 in 2 hours in 1 instance
1 in 1 hour in 1 instance
6 in 1 hour in 1 instance
3 in 5 minutes in 1 instance (that was my alt and 3 was the required number)

I had similarly poor luck at Sol, but eventually one did spawn after several hours.

I went to a different Titan site to get a second one, this time circling the site at range and bugging out if a Thargoid showed up (I only came back to the game a couple of weeks ago after a several-year absence and missed the war, so I have no idea how to fight those guys). It still took about three refreshes of the instance, but I did get one more quickly there.

I picked up two in sol in last week . The first took me about 20-30 mins but I just picked up the mats flying to where they were . I then jumped out jumped back and another popped up within 10 mins . I have enough v1 sco for the new ships ( currently using the PC sco in my cutter) as I will wait for that to be in game credits but all within 45 mins . I'm not sure if picking up the mats ( not cargo) helps ? But it seemed to be quicker.

Was there the day before yesterday - got two in half an hour, but had to cruise for maybe another half hour for the rest. At least I also got a Thargoid bobblehead out of it.
And since I onlye really needed one of them, I then had to find a carrier to sell the surplus to.

The last time I went drive hunting, was about a week ago. I found two within about 45 minutes. I usually find them quite quickly by flying around the edge of the debris field at around 10-20Km from the centre, in a circle. Every time I've needed one, that's been my method, and it's not failed me yet, as I usually get at least one within 20-30 mins.

It's probably just coincidence, but I find the drop rate seems higher if I pick up everything (materials) I can see. My thinking is that if an item is collected, that's another spawn space available for a TDC. If true, I'll eventually fill all my mat's and find it even harder to get a TDC :p

I doubt it works that way, but I went from finding 0 for days/weeks to 1-5 an hour at different Titans. The only other thing I've done is leave and come back after 30 minutes.

I had that feeling as well but I just picked up the mats

I stopped picking up stuff, even though some of it could be sold. Sat on my carrier I have hundreds of items that can be sold for 100+k a pop.

I've been picking up everything, under the potentially false impression that some of these different Thargoid ship components will be needed in future tech broker unlocks - best to keep 10 or so on hand, just to be safe.

I have found it to be highly variable, with the time taken to find one ranging from minutes to several hours, including flying out of the instance and back in. Mostly it seems to take 1-2 hours for me, so I would say my median time is around 80-90 minutes. I have tried it in a few ships and prefer a fast ship that can quickly explore the instance (the Imperial Eagle is my favourite). This is all in Sol, so I don't have Thargoid interruptions.
Persevere and you will find one eventually. Good luck!

I think that whilst the corrosive cloud was active the drop rate was higher.
Or at least it was in a roundabout way because “new” Titan wrecks would have a lot more stuff spawning in at once than when it becomes freely accessible. Thus, more chances for the TDC to appear even with its (seemingly) lower spawn rate.

Also, seeing those posts concerned about Thargoids… you actually really needn’t worry about those at the wrecks. I don’t know what weird thing’s going on with their AI there but the Interceptors don’t attack anything until shot at, usually by AX NPCs… and if you then keep a distance, especially while a swarm is out, you’ll be able to avoid combat entirely. Scythes (the ones that appear in pairs) won’t bother you unless you have some form of human “cargo” or the bio pods floating around.

Both will also either be killed or lured away from the wreckage field by the same bots that attack them, while it also tends to make pirates hop out, so that’s another bonus. At worst, just do rounds away from the Thargoid, but I’ve never been attacked by one a single time there [after the Scouts disappear when the caustic cloud dissipates]. And I’d say I would’ve been noticed by an Interceptor marked as “hostile”(red and being targetable as such) passing within a kilometer of me, though your blood pressure probably isn’t happy when it’s a Medusa.

Of course if you are able to go to Sol and are that concerned, then just visit there. Supposedly the AX NPCs will even act as security stand-ins if hassled by one of the pirate nuisances roaming.

As for my experience gathering the things… well, it mirrors more or less what others have already said. Sometimes I can get one within minutes, maybe even three per hour, other times I could spend hours searching and just… never find one until I get bored and move along. Fortunately I’m currently in no need to do more collecting and have a few spares on my main account’s carrier if the need does arise.
