I am angry!

agree that this needs a lot of work still. there are far to many times when another ship is blocking the entrance. Perhaps the answer is a in and an out lane for the stations which would mean a bigger aperture.

I won't be handing control over until it is working correctly.

For me it is one of the major nostalgia items from the original elite

ok. I'm totally new in the forums and in the game. do I understand that in the right way. the DC should function anyway, and it is a bug if it doesn't?

or is there somekibd of fealurerange where it can happen that the DC don't work???

I think the penalty of death serves a few purposes which justifies it.
First, it prevents players from loitering out of grieving, even if they have the funds to pay some extremely high fine. (Players who have reached high amounts may lose high amounts which cause them to grieve)
second, it prevents NPC's from being stuck on positions which block human players in their progress.

So I think the penalty of death for loitering is very much justified.

But still, I'm sorry for your loss, please don't go grieving ;)

No this is not about a failure of the docking computer. Component failures will be added in the future. The topic is just about the errors autopilots can make when placed in a unusual situation. It happens in real life too on commercial airliners, training hammers home the fact that you should never ask 'what is it doing now?' If it's acting weird take over.

You get killed instead of fined because... shall we call it the Multiplayer Imperative? Loitering (really loitering) blocks other players.

The Multiplayer Imperative explains the fines for murder in deep space and the lethal response for traffic offences.

The auto-pilot module is a troll. There are countless videos on youtube of people dying while auto-dock is engaged.

The docking computer is garbage, and if you listen to the nice lady inside the station she tells you that loitering is a capital offense. Fair warning was given about the loitering, and anyone who has played the game for more than an hour knows the docking computer is utter garbage, even in real life I don't trust my life to a computer.

I know it is frustrating that you lost your stuff, but these are lessons learned. There are punishments for crimes that are unjust in some cases (think thailand and an ounce of weed = death penalty), and computers fail (Ever seen a Blue Screen of Death?), but alas live and let learn.

Cheers

What silly is bashing someone for using a feature of the game and expecting it to work the way it's intended to (putting your ship down safely).
It's clear that:
1. Features that do not work properly need fixing by the devs. Players abandoning said features is not a solution.
2. Maybe you really should get fined first instead of being killed instantly. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
3. Bashing players with legit concerns while turning a blind eye to stuff that still isn't in the game or doesn't work correctly is not going to help the game, the players or Frontier in the long run. Also, it makes you look like a fanboy.

Exactly.

it will all be fixed on release, or in the patch after release, or shortly afterwards

Or it might take slightly longer than that. Or maybe a lot longer than that. But it will definitely get fixed!

First of all : Theres no dying in elite dangerous, just ship destruction.
Second : The docking computers are just a gimmick by some space company to make you buy cheap, dumb, useless technology then get destroyed by it and buy it again.
I think its itentional by the devs.

I was docking and was directed to go to dock 29, i go there but it won't engage the dock computer i try a few times and then decide to cancel docking and go, as i'm going out it gives me a trespass warning, but the warning is actually lasers destroying me ship, i get out of the dock and it destroys me outside. and i have a fine when i come back to life. I don't mind the strict rules i just hate being punished for glitches all the time. This makes it tough to make money doing cargo runs

All you can do is ticket your issue and move on. At least you know that when it comes to release day, a docking computer will not be on your shopping list!

I'm really sorry Henkie but I laughed when I saw your OP, but only out of sympathy because it's happened to me in 3.04.

Actually I vividly remember it happening when playing elite on the c64. I was deadly at the time and got like 4 "right on commander!" messages during an afternoon's bounty hunting, the stupid DC decided to enter the space station anywhere BUT the docking port then got in a panic and started scraping along the stations outside walls, I was so panicked I couldn't find the escape pod key. Not a happy teenager!

Whilst the auto dock could be improved, I might suggest not ignoring warnings when they are given next time, because it sounds like you had about 30 seconds to do something about it, but chose to ignore it.

And remember peeps - never cancel a docking request if your inside the station and there is a problem with the pad - get outside first.

I finally tried it out and was waiting in the queue as you do!, and was just about to take over manually and zip through the port when - something coming out was obviously a very naughty ship and the station minced it with lasers then it slowly fell out of the docking port - thankfully I hadn't jumped in there ( I have been known to need a new paint job now and then!)

I was flying to a station with a big investment to sell, request docking rights and the auto-docking kicked in. Halfway during the docking I got a "Loitering" warning but I thought it was a mistake and within 30 seconds the auto-dock must be docked by now. Well.. the 30 sec went over and I wasn't docked. I was inside the station and it began to fire at me and the auto-dock disengaged because I was under attack.. 5 secs later my ship was destroyed.. I am very angry.. I just lost all my credits because "loitering" is punishable by death! Common.. give me a fine or something.. but this is stupid!!

Take the rough with the good. It'd be boring as heck if everything went right all the time without smashing your teeth in. Also, don't get too attached to the pre-release just yet. Much can still be subject to change and another full wipe is a possibility.

Shok.

Docking computer aside, those warnings that all those stations bellow at you...yeah well they ain't joking. You get a pad loitering warning apply throttle, f--- the docking computer it ain't gonna help ya :)

This is true for now - if FD implement Ironman then your life really is on the line.

OP - sorry about your experience. I have never used the autopilot as I find pleasure in doing it myself (its quicker for a start). Maybe practise in one of the missions and ditch that unit ? Its not hard to self dock.

This again really annoyed me, not the Docking Computer, but the players directly insulting other players because they use a DC. I use it for medical reasons, and being told it's just a gimmick and doesn't work... I've been playing several week and never had it fail.

Stop attacking other players on a personal level just because they do something in game you don't.
