Release date chaos

Just beware. Expect the servers to fall over. Often. Possibly. At least this is my experience with other games. Release day/patch day stress test.

How easily people are able to actually download and play the game on release day is going to be what makes or breaks the game as far as the press is concerned.

If I were FD that would be the number one crash priority goal for release day - to have no massive cluster(humps) related to simply obtaining and playing the game.

I just can't believe there's will still be launch with server crash. Servers cluster are so easy to build and you can "scale" them up for the launch and then discard them and/or place them elesewhere (or just lease them for 1-2 month). We are in 2014... it's not the first "massive launch" in the history.

This is why they have allowed pre purchasers early access to the tutorials so they can get most of the downloads sorted before the 16th.

If the reviews are great then the new crop of purchasers will arrive and it won't be so bad.

You probably haven't been around for many MMO launches. Pretty much every one I have been around for has had issues of some kinds. Usually its logon server queues getting crushed.

Launch days are always a nightmare and I don't expect ED to be any different.

I'll probably download the update and wait a few days for things to settle down a bit before giving it a go.
I cannot state strongly enough that people thinking of booking a day off for launch day, don't. Whatever you do, don't book a day off for it, or clear your calendar in any way at all for it.

If you go ahead and do, please contain your rage at pressing F5 for most of it, slow download speeds, server crashes and bugs, and don't come on the forum asking for FD to give you compensation or refunds due to issues or problems experienced on launch day, and probably for a day or two afterwards. If you do, I will laugh long and loud at you. You have been warned!

Waiting until January, plenty of other things to do in the meantime ! By then it should be OK.
No need to rush, this will be a long journey anyway ... :) I have been waiting for almost 30 years, two or three more weeks won't make much difference.

Yes methinks it could be an "error 37" all over again....
Hope not though as I really want to get to playing properly. Instead of trying to break stuff and report it!
Par for the course these days with online games. But after the initial furore, it's ON =D

I do and it's exactly my point. They KNOW what will happen... why noone is preparing for that? :(

Who says they aren't preparing for it? You?

Relax. It will either go smoothly or it won't. The world will keep turning.
