There will never be a 3rd person view.
But the game remains a single player with PVP until 2015, as Devs told us.
Would you define this game an MMO?Really?
Damn!
Hey, all you other people that I keep seeing and fighting with... Go away, this is a single player game!
Would you define this game an MMO?
You haven't seen anyone? You sure your playing the 'open' game I see hundreds of players around the start systems. Sometimes so many I have to queue to dock. Where did you start?
M = Massive
M = Multiplayer
O = Online
Yes.
But Elite Dangerous is breaking new ground just like the original Elite did when it was first released.
Back then if a game didn't have 'three lives' and a bonus life at 10,000 points the games industry didn't want to know about it. Elite came along and broke the mold.
And now, it is going to do it again. This is an MMO, but not one like all the others that are out there. This will be a new experience and format for the MMO world.
You don't have to have the Clan/Guild Systems, Crafting or 'Add a Fire Gem' to make a weapon more powerful.
This is a game from a company that is thinking outside of the box and I fully back them in their project.
i say go ahead and buy it without really knowing what it is, but expect it to be something else. we always need another hate thread complaining about how this wasnt EVE or warcRaft and FD defrauded them.
But I digress. I want someone to convince me of the good and the bad (since there is no such thing as perfection) of why I should pre-order this game. I have no previous experience of Elite games and not a real fan of "hardcore rules", but do love PvP. And the PvE exploration sounds real exciting.
One where you are playing with others, but don't have to interact with them, one where grouping is mostly impossible, one where speaking with others is a chore... ground breaking.
Bwahahhaha.... haM = Massive

I've heard some pretty excuses by fanbois on these forums but this takes the cake.
We're gonna redefine what MMO's are by having no groups, no tools to effectively chat to your group, no tools to find your group, gonna split you light years apart when you start hopefully in the same instance AND limit players to 32 in an instance.
Yup, groundbreaking.
I've been playing for about two weeks and haven't found another person yet.
"Plays like a sim on hardcore"........lol. What kind of sims are you playing? The only thing that is sim like is the galaxy. The rest is arcade unless you fly without flight assist. Personally, I've never played a hardcore sim where you pushed launch and the next second you were flying along without a care in the world other than trying to figure out the lame galaxy map...lol.
The game is pretty. It has potential, but it's not a hardcore sim by any stretch of the imagination and probably not designed to appeal to the general masses. It's a slow paced, look at the sights, earn a few credits, buy a new ship, earn some credits, look at the sights game. Which is fine as long as that's what you're looking for.
There is an honest answer for you from someone who loves space games and "real sims". Just my 2 cents.
I started near Erevate. I've tried to get to Sol but I couldn't get in. I hang out near my starting area, and haven't been much more than about 50Ly away in ether direction. I always play in open mode assuming it would be a multiplayer game, but I was sorely disappointed.
Are you sure you're playing the same game as the rest of us?
If you like PVP this game is certainly not for you. Though it's allowed, I've been playing for about two weeks and haven't found another person yet. The forums are full of complaints about when players get killed they call it griefing and rant like children about how they had their toys taken away.
