Michael Brookes' comments on a possible Gamma wipe

We need a wipe to be honest. The backers already have an unfair advantage with the KS preorder packages, not wiping will give us even more of a head start over new players. Just reset on full launch. It's for the best for the game as a whole

Originally the plan was to not wipe during gamma so kickstarter benefits and head start 'fairness' aren't factors in a wipe decision. The only people who have an unfair start are the ones who used exploits to earn massive amounts of credits and Michael just said in his post that they'll be handled on an individual basis. THey're not going to wipe unless they absolutely HAVE to, as promised from the very start - so if there's a wipe it'll be because changes in the game need there to be.

This is a single player game. Who cares who wipes, cheats, exploits or grinds their way to elite first? Its the same game as the first elite 30 years ago.

Exactly! I find it so petty to start complaining about "oh it's unFAIR the other guy has more than me!". So what? Play the game, don't bully FD into wiping other peoples progress...

I really don't care about others making more money or flying around in an anaconda at the head start. As long as they are not going to hunt me through the galaxy i´m fine with it. I´m not going to be one of the first having millions of credits, visiting the galaxy core or having other rank than "Harmless". There are a few players out there who can even manage to make their first million a few hours after release and a possible wipe. I wonder if i will have the time to play on the 16th ;-) So - Gamma gave and gives me some advantage in knowing where to go first. Or helps me to decide whether i sell my eagle and go for a hauler fast. So wipe it or not - i will be fine with it and many other will, too ( while others won´t of course )

I just wish they would have been more forward regarding *what* would have caused them to reset. (... or have I missed an *official* post somewhere? As in, not speculation.) Sure, that would have guaranteed a reset since people would have exploited it, if it was something that was exploitable, *but* it would have occurred early in gamma and we would be done with it.

So what if some players have an advantage over new players? It's not like we're competing for finite resources. Are you also suggesting that in 6 months time we should have a reset for any new players then? I mean, anyone who has been playing since the 16th December will have an advantage over them, so it's only fair to reset surely?

The average player will have gotten their heads around pretty much everything they need to start progressing inside a couple days, and after a week or 2 will be as good as most of us anyway. Heck, there will be some players who start on the 16th who will wipe the floor with many of the KS players after a week.

.... as long as they selectively wipe those who have benefited from any of the exploits found during Gamma - easy to spot as a trivial check of the player stats that we can already see (and I would not expect that those will be all that are stored) will show whether a credit balance / net worth is explainable or not.

It's been 3 weeks since the start of Gamma.
Every advantage anyone has will be the same in 3 weeks after release.
The question is whether or not the Galaxy is because some things (like trading) not working as intended.

Whether some players or not have a bigger ship doesn't matter.

If the game goes live as it is now, knowledgeable and dedicated Gamma players will be able to fly around in a Lakon Type 9 after about 25 hours of playtime, or a weekend of real time.

I don't mind either way if there is a wipe or not as I am too busy enjoying the game and I know I will enjoy the game after release regardless of whether there is a wipe.

All I want is to know in advance, a few days before release, is whether or not there will be a wipe. If there is a guaranteed wipe I will start experimenting more with ED like deliberately flying into the sun, or shooting at space stations etc, otherwise I will continue to build up my collection of ships :).

This.

Regarding the collection of ships... Just sold my collection to get a nice one and fly around doing things I like and not things that get credits.

That's not entirely accurate considering there has been some absolutely horrible exploits available in Gamma.

Are you suggesting those exploits will carry over into release?!?

God I hope not. I would like to think that regular bugs that are reported through usual channels are investigated and fixed. More so the easily exploitable ones.

Personally I'd like a wipe.

Like a lot of you I won't be able to put too much time into power grinding etc.. im the long term.

However if there was ever a time of year when most people have a couple of days off (and can probably claim a pass from doing DIY jobs etc...) - it's over the festive period.

Therfore just for that short period it would be nice to start afresh - make a push to get to my cobra mk3 - and when u get there not be the last one to get one :)(and find everyone else in fully kitted Asps and Anocondas).

Anyway just my view - am sure others would differ - but personally I'd really enjoy that starting period of everyone coming from same baseline.

PS having said that of they wanted to do the wipe a couple of days before the 16th to spread the load on go live day then that would sound sensible too.

I don't think a full wipe would really be appropriate.

Maybe clear assets but give us in the Gamma enough money to get a Cobra and a few bits for it? I'm not rich by any means, but it would be nice to at least have a little reward or compensation of sorts for the wipe, nothing too huge or expensive but enough to make it worthwhile having played the three weeks (aside from the added experience)

I've worked hard for what I have so far, I don't have a lot of spare time so it's been quite a big achievement even to get my lil' Viper to where I want it to be. Would be quite annoying to see that vanish.

For me it doesn't make a difference whether it's a few exploiters flying around in Anacondas or people with too much time do so as well a month later.

I dont and I wont. What others do does not affect me all to much, or influence my enjoyment. A wipe, however, does.
