What ships are we getting in the 'Big Release'?

I sincerely hope you're wrong. David Braben has consistently said that there'd be no "pay-to-win" in ED. I can understand people scepticism on this, based on the hard sell that comes with every newsletter.

I am naturally pessimistic but have held on to FD's vision for this game. Hopefully my trust will be gratified.

And I sincerely hope you are right and I am wrong but I have seen peoples expectations for Beta and then Gamma and now release and every time there has been 'believers' that there was some hidded written code version of this game hiding in the wings and they were proved wrong every time. This is Gamma. The devs naturally need to draw a line in the sand somewhere and make sure everything works. They are not running around like little elves trying to squeeze in somethig else. A professional attitude was taken totreat the fixes properly and that is what they are concentrating on. Wishful thinking about more ships on release is just folly IMO. But like I said I would love to be proved wrong.

I hope I don't sound too sarcastic on this post as I do not mean to make light of your views but I just think what we have right now is what we are getting.

Read the quote i posted just above.

I think you are all building your hopes up. I would suggest none. I think what we are playing now is the release game. Why people keep clutching to the hope there will be more on release day when since Gamma day we have seen precious little to enforce that idea is beyond me.

They've confirmed that there will be 15 ships at launch meeting the original Kickstarter goal, and at some point they will reach and surpass the stretch goal of 25 ships with 30 playable ships.

I would say it will be a release 'expansion pack' of five ships you will have to pay for and we will get 'free access' to one of them

I did worry about this at first but DB has said that the game isn't going to be 'pay to win' so it's more likely that the five extra ships will become available as you increase your faction rep:

it may be a situation where these extra five ships come as part of their first expansion. you may get access to one of them without buying the product. ;)

Read the quote i posted just above.

Where is this quote you speak of where he said that?

I doubt they will ever sell ships for real money.

Buy ship, it blows up.

Now what...

It's 'free' like the eagle in the merc pack. If you lose it and it is only a unique one time ship, might be best to just reset your save and have another. Perhaps, even keep a savegame for it once we have more commander slots.

Shok.

DB also said in many videos on Youtube that we were getting 25 ships at launch. That has not happend. Where have they 'confirmed' we are getting 15 ships at launch? I only seen an FD employee mentioning that to a German interviewer. That is hardly a 'confirmation' no more than DB making a confirmation of 25 ships was in the said videos on Youtube.

Did he? Anyway they more recently said there wont be 25 but that they plan on adding more after release, up to 30 now.

But i havent seen anything about 15 ships at launch, but adding 2 more ship would probably be doable i guess. But there could also be none of 5 for all we know.
13 out of 15 is pretty close i would say

Sorry it took me a while to find the quote though the thread. Fair enough. That looks like promising news. But I still see no reason why we should be expecting another two ships on launch day. I have learned to curb my expectations for this game over the past month or so. I was still clinging to the idea we would have 25 new ships on launch up until last week when I found out this was not the case. that was before I found out just how incomplete the game is compared to the standard I was previously expecting. So now I just expect nothing. If something new arrives I will see it as an unexpected bonus. But I have zero expectations...

I loved the Imp in Frontier, though I expect it wouldn't fit through the docking entrance of most of the stations as they are right now. Some of them, especially those with cages, are a pretty tight squeeze in a Cobra.

All the ships in the game at present are staged rungs for a bare minimum prgression ladder model as it stands. Each single ship growth tier is set after the last one. There are no options or variations to this route without a long stall in credit gathering before you skip a rung. IMO the next 15 ships might flesh this out a bit creating a few more options to take in this growth model thus creating a bit more variation. For this reason the next two ships that would make up the 15 would logicly be the Type 7 bridging the gap between the type 6 and Type 9 and also the Dolphin creating a better access route into people transort and access to the Orca if that was your chosen route.

The game however is sorely lacking in small ships and it is my personal hope that they will address this problem. Large ships are well catered for. But at the moment there are too few pirate vessel variations making it all feel a little stale in that respect. Here's hoping...

Yes i dont see any clear sign that they will add more ship either, but i'll be cheking the next newsletter, If there are more ships coming they might tell us there. 13 to 15 isnt a huge gap, and if they plan on adding more anyway, why not start there? And adding ships wont break the game as much as adding a few features, though ships could themselves be bugged.
Of course it's very possible that we'll get none at all. Precisely because gamma is meant for bug/stability/optimisation and we pretty much have the released version in our hands already.
We'll get the background about the emperor for sure but we likely wont get much more right away.

That's the confirmation that I was referring to, so as he's one of the lead developers I feel he's able to make a statement like that. Up until recently I was under the impression that we were going to get 25 ships at launch, but after listening to the interview I spent a while looking for something from FD that that clearly stated that there would be, but I came up with nothing. 25 ships was a stretch goal and the 30 ships was a bonus, perhaps they could have been clearer, but it's always been 15+ at launch and that is what I think we'll have.

As much as i would sell my mother for a Fer De Lance, with my sensible hat on i agree that the game needs more stepping stone ships. Small to mid range in combat, cargo and explorer types.

one or two of these will feature; Mamba, Type 7 and Krait. Possibly a bigger freighter and or an Imperial ship of some type which might fit int he middle of the ladder rungs.

I'm guessing we'll get at least 2-3 on release. Why? because the majority of ships released since last summer have come basically unannounced or announced the Friday before. It is entirely possible they have another 12 ships just sitting around for release day. It isn't like they really need to be tested tbh unless they wanted them to be balanced. But balancing doesn't seem to have been much of a concern so far, so why would that change for new ships released on release?

If we could have a wish list, I would go for a Fireball XL5. As a kid that ship was the very definition of a space ship to me. The number of time I 'docked' a ballpoint ben into its plastic top.... Hehe, i still think about it now when i see a BIC.

There are videos on Youtube with DB saying there will be 25 ships at launch. I only watched one of them yesterday.
