The only real difference regarding Ironman is that there are no private groups - it's all or nothing.

OT:

:S Is there something beyond the current proposal sitting in the DDF? It says -

Players in iron man mode will only meet other iron man characters in the all player group. Private groups can have a mix of iron and non-iron man characters if desired

Surely that provides flexibility for other players? If you do not wish to play with non-ironman players you do not need to become a member of a group with them.

I'm with Liqua... Ironman should be IRON! No point at all if you can sneak off into private groups (and presumably even a solo private group as they're treated the same).

Yeah, the whole point of Ironman is that you have to play with other Ironpeeps (yes, I'm taking that) knowing that a single mistake could end your Ironman career. If you want to duck into a private group it should be doable, but only by removing the Ironman tag from your commander (and permanently, like death).

I realise its a diffcult balance for the Dev team but in a game like ED if I fly into an Anarchy system I expect to be ganked from time to time but what I would hope is that if im in a civilized system the penalties for ganking are such that the gankers are forced out to the fringes by the boys in Blue Vipers

That's an excellent point; I thoroughly agree! :)

Aye, same here. Some sort of natural system that pushes gankers/PvPers into the frotier systems outside of the "starting worlds" would be great. Heck, maybe it will happen organically without any real police intervention..

They'd need to change the group ownership handover mechanism at least. Currently if the current group owner has a random disconnect, ownership moves to someone else, not necessarily a trustworthy someone else!

That would be a bummer. Erm...OK, we need someone who is trustworthy and has a T3 or an E4 connection. Should be easy right? :D

Yeah, let's just tell people, "If you don't want to get ganked, don't go anywhere."

I'm sure that'll work, especially for explorers.

*shrug* I don't see the point of exploring if there is no danger. There's bound to be lawless systems and pirate dens, and that's where pvp makes sense. If everything is ultra-safe and flowery, then it's a scam of a world with no potential for daring feats of escape and luck. So.. let's just tell people "If you want to play online, sell all your guns and don't fight ever"?

For the last time, piracy != griefing.

Piracy is when a player attacks another ship in order to take its cargo. It's part of the game, part of the lore, a valid career path, and should be encouraged in order to balance the game out.

Griefing is when a player spends their time ignoring the goal of the game for the sole purpose of annoying people. It's not part of the game, not part of the lore, not a valid career path, and should not be encouraged in any way whatsoever.

Also, in-game penalties still do not work against griefers.

I nearly missed your point there Duck ! it nearly caught me out you dirty coder!!

I say lets go alpha and see if it is likely for people to grief.. I intend behave honourably and go for the humantiarian route... then once im established.. PIRATE Arrr. that or find god the other way round.

Wow .. total crock of ****

Just re-read the proposal and you're right - Ironman and normal characters are currently allowed to mix via private groups.

What a way to cheapen the experience :mad::mad:

Honestly, as things stand, I really fail now to see the point in it.

For those that can (DDF section) I would appreciate a look and comment here on the subject.

*sigh*

I appreciate you're trying to give the game designers the benefit of the doubt over PvP / PvE but unfortunately alpha will be just far too late to implement any sort of PvE mode should it turn out to be required / desired after all. It needs thinking about and ruling in / out at this stage - won't be possible to add later I suspect.

Likely?? - I think human nature tends to suggest that if you let them - they will.

I kind of like the way Team America summed up human nature - I've cut and past it below - and the link is here -
but clearly it's totally unsafe for work/kids etc.

We're s! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid s. And the Film Actors Guild are *****es. And Kim Jong Il is an *******. *****es don't like s, because *****es get ****ed by s. But s also **** *******s: *******s that just want to **** on everything. *****es may think they can deal with *******s their way. But the only thing that can **** an ******* is a , with some balls. The problem with s is: they **** too much or **** when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a ***** to show them that. But sometimes, *****es can be so full of **** that they become *******s themselves... because *****es are an inch and half away from ass holes. I don't know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this: If you don't let us **** this *******, we're going to have our s and *****es all covered in ****!

Sorry but it's always made me laugh..

I wasn't going Ironman myself (surprise!) but yes, it definitely appears to make it more of a SlightlyFloppyAluminiumMan mode instead. If you can get your Ironman commander boosted by all your normal mode mates in a private group, that's not exactly got the edge a full "Ironman is always in open All-Ironman-players group" would have. You'd never know if someone you met was a "real" Iron commander or a boosted one come to show off.

I'd love to! Couldn't justify the cash though. Slightly glad I didn't go DDF at present with the way my feelings over the game direction currently stand - the Founders cost alone is beginning to be regretted enough.

Oh and PS Liqua, thanks for (I hear) standing up for us carebears in the DDF; I know you're a vicious killing machine yourself but it's nice to know there's a soft old centre :p

Technically not really - The PvE only group is just that - one super huge group with friendly fire off - everything else remains the same right ?

Doing my best of course - and you're not carebears (I hate that term!) you're simply a pilot with different needs.

It's highly unlikely there will be griefers in the Alpha unless FD direct players to try and grief deliberately. Even closed Beta probably won't have them... open Beta a few perhaps, full release they will come crawling out of the woodwork for sure! ;)
